I usually get a lot of music in my inbox sometimes very fitting for the site and sometimes expressing influences of Maroon 5. I try to go through each of our emails to find a band that I can expose and get press for on the site. Collider is a band that I felt is very worthy of the new music slot. I really dig how the music is abstract in the vein of Autolux bringing a youthful vibe of the Kansas City scene. They let themselves be serious but not to the point that it [...]

The British music press called this genre "shoegazing" because the musicians in these bands often maintained a motionless performing style, standing on stage and staring at their effects pedals or the floor while playing their instruments; hence, the idea that they were gazing at their shoes. Der Golem, Wie Er In Eie Welt Kam Direction, analog synths and miscellany by Brian LeBarton (Beck) Percussion by Carla Azar (Autolux) Cello by Vanessa Freebairn-Smith Over the course of 90 minutes in a darkened room under Disney Hall last night Brian LeBarton, clad in a fur-and-rubber wolf mask, made enough improvised bleeps, blurps and flatulent noises for six men with an array of vintage synths surrounding his workspace. Supporting musicians Carla and Vanessa were tastefully subdued, never at the forefront for any extended period of time. Nothing was rehearsed [...]

Perfect Future have an unfortunate name when it comes to entering it on Google trying to find information about them. You either get a ton of results for Autolux or you get just get a bunch of people blabbering on about their own "perfect future" when telling it to search for those words as entered. The latter is actually quite fitting when getting down to what Perfect Future are trying to convey on their debut that presents an all too realistic view of life after you grow up a bit and enter the real world. Built on a bi-coastal romance and mountains of loops and pedals, Brooklyn trio Zaza carefully craft hazy sonics and delicate layers of lush pop magic. Their debut EP, "Cameo", was released for free and marked the My Bloody Valentine enthusiasts as ones to watch in a neighbourhood crawling with bedroom Producers and guitar slinging wannabes. We recently chatted to bassist/keyboardist Jenny Fraser about their debut LP, Portland strip clubs, telepathy and nervous breakdowns. P: Hey Jenny, what are you up to? Z: I'm in Brooklyn, New York. It's about 8 [...]
So at this time, there is no news to put out there. That doesn't mean there won't be any later. But what are you going to do till then? You have to have something to fill the gap. [Here's a piece I wrote for LA Weekly on Autolux, in advance of the band's show tonight at the El Rey Theatre:] There are fans who would go to the end of the earth to hear the new album from Autolux . On a hazy, warm afternoon in [...]

Decade :: Autolux, Future Perfect (2004)
What is it that makes us want to deconstruct art by units of time? Lists. We love making them. We love arguing over them. And here, on the verge of a new decade, we're in a position to do the same again. What were the best albums of the past ten years? Here at AD, we [...]

Some Bands I Would Love To See Breakthrough After Playing CMJ 2009
You don't have to be at CMJ to be in the know about the upcoming buzzworthy bands. Sure CMJ is a pretty epic display of developing to antique artists showcasing themselves to the music industry and like-type folks in New York City for about 5 straight days of non-stop back-to-back shows. It is undeniably a really fun time, a drunken time, a time for networking over a cheers and a time to collect as many business cards as you can to impress your co-workers. Anyway, I am sad to say that this year I am [...]
