Album of the Quarter : A Sunny Day in Glasgow - Ashes Grammar Runners up: Memory Tapes - Seek Magic , Mount Eerie - Wind's Poem I am well aware that this podcast is a good month and a half removed from the end of 2009's third quarter, and that we are balls deep in the year's capping three-month span. But, perhaps the extra reflection has further winnowed the included tracks down from the fickle week to week whims of the blogosphere? Let's just pretend that that's [...]

Acre - Untitled 1 I've had this for wayyyyy too long, and while I can make excuses for not having written about it yet (like I moved and couldn't find my copy to scan for the artwork, or I've been too busy, or I couldn't think of anything to say because it's so fucking brilliant) they're all pretty much irrelevant. Reason being: Acre's Isolationist is unbelievably amazing drone. Let's face it. Winter's coming [...]

Sleigh Bells photographed 10.30.09 by anthoNYC Derek Miller and Alexis Krauss have managed to cause quite a stir on the internet, having going from amateurly recorded obscurity to booking sought after gigs and rolling with the likes of M.I.A. and Spike Jonze. Sleigh Bells : What is the method to their mayhem? Who are they? What kind of music is this? These were all questions that plagued us and we decided to get to the bottom of this two weeks ago, the day before Halloween. We met up with the duo at [...]

In the first part of our Black Body Politic series, we briefly discussed the history of black models and fashion. This installment finds us chatting with up and coming model Khayattollah. Khayattollah has been a model and muse for the Boxing Kitten brand, an amazing company whose designs are based on the tradition of women with "ethnic rockability." You may have also caught her in the campaign for fashion brand A Peace Treaty (which made it's way to the e-pages of FADER ), as well as being featured by TRACE and more. [...]

Since starting up 20-years ago, Slumberland Records has been providing the world with some of the best and noisiest pop music around. Lately the label has really stepped up its game with a new crop of bands ready to carry the torch of the label for the next 20-years. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have to considered the cream of that crop of bands. Their self-titled debut perfectly captures the influence of early Slumberland acts, while also updating the sound and pushing it towards a more [...]

I've leaked a few choice tracks from this mixtape, as well as had the opportunity to see this talented MC spit live and in living color ... now its time to bring you, in association with Beat Garden Entertainment , the new mixtape from Curly Castro and DJ Ambush , Phatman and Likklebwoy . I'd love to bust some crazy wisdom about how amazing this mixtape is (which it is), but Dom from Public Axis sent over [...]

So I've moved to East London, to Queen Mary University. It's good here, I finally feel like I'm not hanging around waiting anymore. And everyone likes good music! I've been to 3 gigs so far - money has stopped me from seeing more, most painfully Biffy Clyro with Manchester Orchestra and Frightened Rabbit, nice one money. Here's the run down of those I did catch. Monday 21st September THE VEILS w/ Swimming, So Say So - London Scala This was an exciting one. 2 days into living in London [...]

photos by Chris La Putt Brooklyn duo Matt and Kim , dressed as Andy Warhol and his It Girl Edie Sedgewick, took the stage to Fat Joe shouting "Where Brooklyn At?" over the sinister beat of his hit "Lean Back", while they threw out candy to the crowd before beginning a fun-filled set that included their infectious smash hit "Daylight" and short nods to Europe's "Final Countdown" and Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll Part Two." As for [...]

You remember the Foo Fighters , right? Sure you do. They're that band fronted by the Them Crooked Vultures drummer. And guess what? If you must know, I'm going to see Pissed Jeans and Awesome Color in a [...]

Recommended Show: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2009 LIGHTNING BOLT @ ABOVE THE AUTO PARTS STORE 600 Bushwick Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11206 $12, 8PM In terms of noisier bands, this might not only be the place to be tonight, but could potentially be the most anticipated show of the year. Lightning Bolt are one of those bands from the scene to really break to something bigger, and they're joined by Black Dice, Mick Barr, and TV Ghost. If noise isn't your thing, check out other events after the jump. Sigmund Droid @ Lit Palomar [...]

Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs teamed up with a bunch of, apparently, children to do the soundtrack to Where the Wild Things Are , and while these songs are ostensibly for children, I have to admit that I'm kind of digging the album. There are really some great songs on here. Of course, any movie that uses Arcade Fire's "Wake Up" in its trailer -- and then gets the trailer played on pretty much every show in the country for the last month, spreading Arcade Fire's wonderful music further than it's ever been spread -- [...]

Slumberland just released a new limited 7" from San Francisco 's the Mantles , featuring two exclusive new songs not available on the band's awesome self-titled LP (out now on Siltbreeze ). Here's the a-side, which the label says "has the lazy drive of a 'tougher' Bats -- hungover with a shot voice and a negative attitude." But like the group's other undeniable single , it somehow manages to feel almost anthemic in its hazy simplicity. The Bad Design 7" is limited to 300 copies on "all swirly [...]

LA is a place where anything is possible. Dreams are made and broken every second and Evan Voytas is riding the wave of possibility mixed with disappointment all rolled into one funk fusion of a ball. Cruising along with drums machines and throbbing bass Evan varies his sound from song to song but it all remains awesome. Perfect for that night flight above the atmosphere in the clouds as the sun pierces through to create every color possibly. Evan Voytas - Astro Evan Voytas - [...]
