This week brings new albums by The Watson Twins (Talking to You, Talking to Me) and Yeasayer ( Odd Blood ) , but I am more excited by the new releases by singer-songwriters Gil Scott-Heron ( I'm New Here ) and Kath Bloom ( Thin Thin Line ) . Among the week's music releases, I can already strongly recommend Allison Moorer's Crows , Phantogram's Eyelid Movies , the incredibly soulful Georgia Anne Muldrow's Kings Ballad , [...]

You may remember that a while ago I blogged about Mustard Pimp compiling an astonishing 12 hour mix - well the sneaky French duo have now topped that with an epic 24 hour compilation mix made up of nearly every genre going! It's all in the honour of the new series of 24 which is about to start on Sky. I really didn't follow the last series, I tried but it's hard work. Seriously, how many times does Jack need to save the world? Jean Claude Van Damme wouldn't have had these issues, he'd simply kick [...]

Our crazy friends from France have done it again. This time they outdone anything we could ever think of. Mustard Pimp goes in the footstep of the popular tv-show 24 and produces a 24 h mixtape. It is crazy, but in a good way. The best thing is that you can enjoy them in the same way that you enjoy 24, hour for hour. Download the 24 episodes here (mediafire folder) Look at the 800+ tracklist after the jump. Hour 1 1)Mustard [...]
The mysterious singer songwriter will release an album in 2010 on Drag City, and will play the Cedar this April.

Not an essential purchase for me by any means but I may still pick it up at least for the artwork and of course to hear REMASTERED audio of Pavement classics (ok I'm being sarcastic), but Pavement will be releasing a mid-priced 23-track compilation entitled "Quarantine The Past" on March 9 through Matador Records . Tour dates have already been announced for New Zealand, Australia, Europe and New York City and the buzz around the T.O. Community is perhaps they'll play this year's Olympic Island Festival. Of course that's just speculation but I'm sure some of us [...]
Sorry about not doing a "This Week in Chicago" post last week. It was the holidays, yada yada yada. Anyway, I'm back now... but sadly, good concerts aren't. A pretty lethargic week coming up. My picks, such as they are, in bold . If I'm missing anything, or if there are any shows that you recommend, drop me a line in the comments. Monday, January 4 Beat Kitchen: Pat McCurdy Empty Bottle: The Velcro Lewis Group, [...]

You guys, I have a feeling that 2010 is going to be awesome. The World Cup AND the Olympics are both happening, for one thing. And apparently , it's also the year we make contact! That should be pretty sweet, right? Contact with that space baby? But hey, forget all that and let's talk about the albums I got that were released in 2009. There is a trend across the albums on the list: That they mostly have weak moments, but are redeemed by incredible moments. I will now list and review/make fun of them below: [...]
