The 2009 REVERBfest will take over Ballard on Sat Oct 3rd, filling 10 neighborhood venues (including 4 all-ages) many of which, like The Sunset and Hattie's Hat, are Ballard institutions while others, like the Salmon Bay Eagles Club and New York Fashion Academy are transforming themselves just for the event. The nice thing is that all of the venues are in the heart of old Ballard which makes it simple to hop from place to place and catch all your favorites. . Now, I know it's a pretty big claim, but I [...]
On October 3rd, Seattle Weekly's REVERBFest will make it's glorious return to shake the mortar from Ballard's historic buildings. All happening in one day and spread throughout all available venues, it is - without challenge - the greatest single gathering of the Seattle area's musical talent. . This year's bands enter from all realms of the spectrum, from the hot-shit hip hop of Fresh Espresso , to the deep raw grooves of The Redwood Plan , to the pizza party pop rock that is Coconut Coolouts , and the re-re-reborn punk-rock genius [...]

Record stores sure know how to celebrate Record Store Day, the day in their honor happening this Saturday, April 18 at independent stores across the region . 1. Meursault - Pissing on Bonfires/Kissing With Tongues I know I can't be objective with regards to this album, but believe me I am being honest when I tell you that it is the best thing I've heard all year. Whether it's the obvious hits, the peculiar interludes, the perfect blend of pop songs and experimental electronica, or the trajectory and integrity of the album as a whole, I don't think I've heard better than this for years. Meursault - Salt Pt.1 [...]

6. Barton Carroll - The Lost One I know nothing about Barton Carroll, I wasn't looking forward to this album at all, and then when it landed in my lap I still refused to quite get it for ages; maybe it's because it's stylistically quite unadventurous. The big difference, though, is that absolutely every single song on this album, despite flirting with cliche rather frequently, is compelling. They all have you perking up when they come on in their turn, thinking 'oh good, this song'. Barton Carroll - Those [...]

Righty-ho, readers of Toad, here's your chance to get stuck in and tell me what a clueless phillistine I am even more vociferously than you normally do in the comments section. For the end of the year I will be making a few lists of my own: a Top Twenty list of albums, and a Festive Fifty of individual songs. However, it would be nice to have reader lists as well, so I reckon everyone should email a list of the following: 1. Top ten albums, 2. Top ten songs, 3. Top five [...]

Written by Fense I get a lot of email. I also get a lot of promo albums. The combination of the two mean that FensePost can sometimes be more a second job than a hobby. As much as I hate to say it, sometimes I get a lot of crap for writing overwhelmingly positive reviews and features. But the way I see it, why do I want to promote something I think is bad? In other words, I get a lot of promo crap as well. And at other times, there's [...]

Tonight in Baltimore don't miss Wu-Tang members Method Man and Redman perform at Sonar . Down in DC Vivian Girls, Fucked Up, Cloak/Dagger, and Police & Theives play the Rock and Roll Hotel while The Little Ones, Via Audio, The Postelles, and Pash take on DC9 . The event in DC tonight is Lykke Li who performs at the Black Cat with Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson. Finally up in Philly Barton Carroll of Crooked Fingers performs at the M Room with 13ghosts, Ponieheart, and Spirit and Dust. I think that's about it [...]

It's that time of year again, when bands both big and small converge upon New York City for a debaucherous , music-filled five days...that's right we're talking about the 2008 CMJ Music Marathon. Spanning Oct. 21 to Oct. 25, there's just too much to see. We'll do our best...this isn't our full time job. Come on! (in Gob voice.) Stark has enjoyed watching certain acts from all over the nation strive for immediate, Black Kids-like fame. Alas, they're not all that lucky. From Nashville to Chicago to NYC, Stark has highlighted [...]
