interessant ambient interpretation, 'a study of the industrial revolution two-hundred years ago'. perhaps after our actual financial revolution silence only will be. A thoughtful and personal two hour journey, Sako's mix features dark yet beautiful ambient sounds owing to the title 'Lament For Plastic Reflections'. Six months in the making, the tracks have been carefully selected to reflect Sako's inspiration for the mix; a study of the Industrial Revolution two-hundred years ago. As you can imagine from an ambient mix with such thought and inspiration, it's one to take time out to, [...]

You gotta love art. Pictured above is a nice painting of a snow leopard. It could be hanging in a gallery somewhere and people could walk by saying how it's a "striking" picture of a beautiful animal fighting for it's existence . They'd be right. In that same gallery, some random guy dragged there in an effort to "bond" with his wife, could take a look at the snout of the animal and swear to his wife that it's a woman's derrière. She'd hit him in the arm and they'd walk away embarrassed with her hoping no one heard [...]

Well it's that time again. It's been a good year in music for sure – so much so that we've bumped our list up to 25 albums this time around, and even then we were having to painfully cut out some clearly great records. Remember, this list represents our favorite albums of the year, not necessarily the best albums of the year. If we had to pick what we thought were the very best albums critically, this would probably be a very different list. But we're no critics, so that's not what we're going [...]

I've been a huge fan of Shearwater since they blew me away with their super-intimate/intense show at the backstage of the Black Cat. The band is made up of a couple former members of Okkervil River, and while Okkervil is very good, i have to say i have grown to enjoy Shearwater even more. That said it can come off as a little intense (especially his voice), so it's probably not for everyone. If you really wanna get the full experience, see them live, and it will give you a whole new appreciation for their recorded material. [...]

This was the greatest decade of music for me as a fan. There were so many incredible albums, almost all by bands I'd never even heard of in 2000, discovered almost entirely through the same musical venue that you are reading write now -- the Internet. At the dawn of the decade, I was approaching a rock fan milestone that presumably signaled the end of my interest in cool new music (I turned 30 in 2001), while at the same time, the rock music industry (ie. whatever they played on the radio) had devolved into a hybrid of cheap rap-rock [...]
Short film by 'Where the Wild Things Are' director has odd parallels to West's recent life. You've heard of art imitating life. What about life imitating art? After months of slow-boil hype, the eagerly anticipated re-hookup between Kanye West and "Where the Wild Things Are" director Spike Jonze, "We Were Once a Fairytale," was released over the weekend. And, as with the last time these two collaborated (on the "Flashing Lights" video), the results are mind-bending and a bit too close to home. The 11-minute short film which is not a video for any specific song [...]
Click here to view the embedded video. Speaking of Spike Jonze , his short film collaboration with Kanye West leaked over the weekend. It debuted in June at the Los Angeles Film Festival and is sort of a long-form music video for the Kanye track, "See You in My Nightmares." If you need incentive (or the opposite) to watch the movie in it's entirety, here's The Daily Swarm after it premiered : In the film, Kanye plays himself drunk at a club acting belligerent and boastful, telling [...]

A short flim featuring Kanye West that was directed by Spike Jonze . In the movie you see Kanye and all of his boys chilling at the club but see Kanye drunk out of his dam mind and acting like a fool. Statment under will tell you the Full story..... In the film, Kanye plays himself drunk at a club acting belligerent and boastful, telling starstruck club-goers that the song playing in the club is his. He wanders into a side room where he encounters a beautiful woman. They [...]
I saw this earlier today and wasn't quite sure what to make of it. Now, courtesy of The Daily Swarm , it now all has meaning...somewhat. Kanye & Spike Jonze , currently riding high off a smash weekend for Where The Wild Things Are , originally filmed this for 808's... but it grew (||) into a short film. In the film, Kanye plays himself drunk at a club acting belligerent and boastful, telling starstruck club-goers that the song playing in the club is [...]
"In the film, Kanye plays himself drunk at a club acting belligerent and boastful, telling starstruck club-goers that the song playing in the club is his. He wanders into a side room where he encounters a beautiful woman. They start having sex and then he passes out on her leopard print dress. When he comes to, he finds himself in the VIP room with his pants down – he was hallucinating and fucking the pillow. The realization startles him and he rushes to the bathroom where he vomits what look like rose petals. Then it gets weird. [...]

It's been a while since we've heard from HT's Portland, OR-based contributor A.J. Crandall for his unique, first-person accounts of seeing shows from an eclectic mix of artists in his hometown. A.J. caught a recent Bob Dylan show and has filed this report for his Through The Fog series of reviews... As some of you may know, my wife does not exactly share my enthusiasm for live music. Where I am more than happy to slog through four and five day festivals as happily as I get in early and get up front for a rock [...]
The video for Cheryl Cole 's first solo single Fight For This Love premiered late last night. It is a nice popstar video with some dancing (WTF is that leopard thing??!), nice visual effects, alot of costumes, and a very VERY beautiful popstar in it. It makes the song even more likeable. Good job, Miss Cole. Le clip du premier single solo de Cheryl Cole , Fight For This Love , nous est apparue hier soir. C'est une bien belle vidéo [...]

The 2009 Emmaboda Festival is bigger than ever, more bands, more spectators, more camp sites. It offers a broader selection of music than ever and it is one of few Swedish festivals with a positive growth rate. Yet it is still the smallest and coziest festival I have been to. The festival that used to be all about indiepop is nowadays all about variation and this years program contains everything from electropop to Springsteen influenced rock and ultra-commercial metal. Major foreign artists include 2 Many Djs , The Wombats , Metronony and The Pains of [...]

Last night Spike Jonze and his pal Kanye premiered their short film; "We Were Once A Fairytale," directed by Spike Jonze to a surprised audience at the Los Angeles Film Festival. Originally produced to be the music video for Kanye, the pair decided to bar it and run it as a legit short film. Funnily enough according to the Daily Swarm; "The short...Walks the fine line between self aggrandisement and self mockery that runs through all of Kanye's endeavors. But the film making is on point." In the film, Kanye plays himself drunk at a club [...]

photos by Tim Griffin ""Oh, this is beautiful!" said singer David Johansen , who emerged before a wall-to-wall crowd in a snug black blazer and skin-tight jeans, with a silky leopard print scarf draped around his neck, and who, along with guitarist Syl Sylvain, is one of the band's two surviving original members. (Guitarist Johnny Thunders died a mysterious, drug-related death in 1991, and bassist Arthur "Killer" Kane passed away from leukemia just weeks after the British singer Morrissey reunited the Dolls for [...]

About fifteen years after these photos were taken and seventeen years after The Snow Leopard was published, Peter Matthiessen wrote Killing Mr. Watson , a fictional tale of murder set in the Florida Everglades a hundred years ago. He'd go on to write a trilogy of the Watson tale with Lost Man's River and Bone By Bone to follow. I've never read any of these books, but in the midst of doing his research, Matthiessen did a lot of exploring of the Everglades and made a documentary/companion piece to the book appropriately titled [...]

Bob Dylan Free Trade Hall Manchester, England 5-17-66 "Guitars Kissing" This is one of my favorite shows of all time, by any artist. Most people know this show as the " Judas " show, but it is much more than that. To hear how Dylan can pull of both an acoustic set and an electric set in the same night and make them both sound beautiful is a priceless experience. By the end of the concert, [...]
