THE BEST COMICS OF THE DECADE: Part Three: 2004 Today, a whole post dedicated to one year. 2004 began the current comic book renaissance (which blossomed fully in 2005), and it takes an entire post just to cover this one year. And most of the reason was Marvel. Let's get started. Superman/Batman #1-6 Jeph [...]

1993: http://rapidshare.com/users/8J IRCT 1. 1993.10.30 - Pete Tong - Studio Session (First [...]

We had several hours of downtime last night, so posts might be a bit light today. Apologies to those who wanted to give us a piece of your mind. We won't say anything bad about our awesome web host though. If we say nice things they might give us a deal. And now back to your daily regimented diet of music news and useless opinion. There's a lot to filter through here this week. We've got the good ( Akron/Family, St. Vincent, The Chariot, The Devil Wears Prada, Zao ), the "sure why [...]

St. Vincent's sophomore album, Actor , is in stores tomorrow, and is already one of my favorite albums of the young year. Among the other releases already sent my way, I can definitely recommend Akron/Family's Set Em Wild, Set Em Free , Alasdair Roberts' Spoils , Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band's Outer South , Double Dagger's More , Horrors' Primary Colours , Patrick Watson: Wooden Arms [...]
If you haven't been following Covered , the blog where artists recreate comic book covers both classic and otherwise, you are officially missing out. Yesterday's entry , Robert Goodin covering a 1958 Carl Barks Donald Duck cover, is nothing short of awesome. Other recent favourites: Dan Zettwoch covering David Collier , Ben Newman covering Sheldon Moldoff , and Mike Lowery doing Kirby & Ditko . And come on, spending 15 minutes a week looking at drawings on the Internet is a lot easier and more manageable than reading a book. Books [...]
I haven't been blogging as regularly as I'd hope, so here's a grab bag post of links that have filtered through my inbox/RSS reader recently that deserve a click. That Chicago post is still coming, hopefully tomorrow... Covers by German band derpferdheissthorst including Funkytown . Neil Gaiman visits The Colbert Report. Canadians click here , Americans here . And I guess the rest of the world is on it's own. Gee, ain't the internet swell these days? Jason [...]

Frank Yang While most bands spend their entire careers trying to nail down that elusive "signature sound", actually achieving that goal can be as much a curse as a blessing. In the case of New York's Asobi Seksu being "that band that sounds like J-pop meets My Bloody Valentine" certainly set them apart, but there's only so much you can do within those boundaries and considering they damn near perfected it with their last album Citrus , the very real question facing them heading into album number three would have [...]

Maybe because the French have a higher tolerance for exceptionally weird stuff, or maybe just because they were homesick on that most American of holidays -- whatever the reason, MGMT put on their own reenactment of the first Thanksgiving while performing "Kids" on the French music show Le Grand Journal last Wednesday. The video is quite an educational experience, mostly because we had no idea there were puppies or masseurs at Plymouth Rock. Not to leave any historical detail overlooked, there is also a pilgrim riding a Segway at the back of [...]

"God should have made you ugly, 'cause that's what you act like." No doubt Ben Pilgrim wasn't talking about how the rest of the country is treating Detroit these days, but like Bob Marley said, if the cap fits... I've never felt more clearly like I wasn't a part of the United States, like I was living in some backwater colony that had outlived its mercantile usefulness. Hey remember, people live here; it's like being in the South before the Civil War. Maybe we should start talking nullification. Anyway, Ben Pilgrim is a Rhode Island [...]

The middle of fall, nothing like it. It is also a huge weekend for shows in the area. Quite a few big names are rolling through the area and pulling multiple city stops. Here's what to check out.
