Ben Sollee , one of our obvious favorites here at Backseat Sandbar, is going to be featured in a new documentary entitled Wooden Box. The title is of course taken from his weapon of choice...the cello. I was in Underground Sounds the other day and Phantom Family Halo 's new album Monoliths & These Flowers Never Die was playing. I didn't recognize it at first, but what I heard was epic. Every track seemed lifted from a timeless album that changed music, but in a mirror reflecting PFH's own image. It's messy, its distorted, it's trippy, it's perfect. I'm not sure if the Slint/Tortoise/Shipping News supergroup The For Carnation ever officially broke up. Hence, we can't call their return a "reunion" necessarily. So we'll referred to this event as their triumphant return.
