I came across this Big Dipper 12" single the other day at my local record store. It was still sealed and only a $1.99. What the heck? I remember this 12" from back when it came out in 1987, mostly because of the memorable cover, which was very similar in layout to both Robyn Hitchcock's Element of Light and The Jazz Butcher's Fishcotheque , all of which came out around the same time. But I can't remember if I owned it, or if I had a friend who owned [...]

Disco Doom , a relatively unknown band from Zurich, Switzerland was the opening band for Saturday's 90's indie explosion at Stubb's . The Swiss rockers were a perfect addition to the full lineup with their mixture of instrumental distortion, exploding atmospheric rhythm, mesmerizing guitar vibrato and down-tempo vocals. Second on the list were Dinosaur Jr.'s bassist Lou Barlow & The Missing Men, which were sort of a back-up band for Barlow's solo stuff. Serving double duty, Barlow mostly played songs off his new record Goodnight Unknown which was released earlier in the month. Despite stopping [...]

[photo courtesy of Sarah Tew ] The fourth and final night of the Built to Spill NYC "tour" was a night to jam. BTS seemed relaxed and poised to have some loose fun. Doug spoke often to the crowd and honored a couple of requests - "You Were Right" and "Cars" were audience choices. The most compelling parts of the evening though were the two extended jam segments. "Hindsight" from the new album There Is No Enemy was stretched out with a new instrumental segment, [...]

Check out this wicked remix of Ash by Jaymo & Andy George . Those guys have been responsible for some massive dance-floor bombs...Andy's 'Big Dipper' was one of 2008's most popular jump-up Electro tracks, prompting a flurry of remixes for scene-leaders Lord Skywave, Toddla T & Jokers Of The Scene. BOOOOOm!!! download : Ash - Return of the White Rabbit (Jaymo & Andy George Remix )

[photo courtesy of joshbg2k ] The second night of Built to Spill at Webster Hall was a show for the old-timers. Opening the set with "Nowhere Nothing FU" from their 1993 debut album, BTS proceeded to play a set that drew heavily from their two masterpieces - 1997's Perfect from Now On and 1999's Keep It Like a Secret . The set's highlight was another 1990's gem, the Halo Benders "Virginia Reel Around the Fountain". Acidjack recorded this set from a completely different vantage point from the first [...]

If you've seen Built to Spill live in the last few years, you probably got a preview of a few of the tracks on There is No Enemy . "Good Ol' Boredom," "Life's A Dream," and "Done" are the kind of drawn out songs that originally had me suspecting the new album would follow in the vein of You In Reverse . However, while those are some jammier tracks that probably needed road-testing, the band has largely reined in the more free-form, improvisation-based structures that carried the day on their 2006 release. Instead, [...]

A few fresh things to be found here, including new tracks from Cheveu, Herds, and Pigeon Religion who very well might pop up again on the blog in a week or so. Anyway, as usual the artist names are linked to a place of purchase where applicable, so please do click away if you're enjoying some of the material included within the mix. In the meantime, enjoy! 01 – Pigeon Religion [...]

Seen as Andy George and Jaymo of Radio 1 fame are playing Rub A Dub Dub tonight I thought it would only be fitting to make a make a post about it, if only just a quick one. For those of you who are unfamiliar I thought I'd draw your attention to the track which really helped Andy George claim the notoriety which pushed his career in the direction it's firmly set on today. Entitled Big Dipper the track sampled the monster track Tika Toc by the mighty [...]

Saying a band will make you ache with sadness is not really a much of an impetus for getting you out of the house to see a gig. A review that states they melted my face with their insane rock might do a better job of that, but Grand Archives make slow and sad pretty damn engaging. Their songs slowly build like a steam engine making it's way from the station. Before you know it the song has filled the room with and taken over your conscious. At first glance you might think a [...]
![Owl City Your New Guilty Pleasure [Unreleased Tracks + Tour Dates + Videos]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2006777_lg.jpg)
Ok so their new album was released a couple months, so this is more of an introduction to those who still havent been blessed up-beat, synth-poppy, guilty pleasure of goodness. Owl City is that band that when you hear a song, you cautiously look around to make sure you're alone and sing aloud. Owl City was formed back in 2007 and is the bastard child of Adam Young , he's celebrating his third album release recently entitled Ocean Eyes.. his first album release under a label, Universal Republic. As soon as you start listening to [...]

![[MP3] New The Most Serene Republic: "Aveern"](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/1975782_lg.jpg)
Along with a slew of tour dates, The Most Serene Republic have offered up a B-side from their latest album, the critically acclaimed ...And The Ever Expanding Universe . The song, "Aveern," is easily good enough for an album (as we so often say about B-sides in general), but it's raw tendencies and jagged guitar probably made it an outsider for the album. But, as a B-side? Gladly. The Most Serene Republic - "Aveern" [MP3] North American Tour 2009 9/9/09 Detroit, MI @ [...]
I can't recall a year when it's been easier to construct a great "summer jams" playlist. When often it's somewhat difficult to cobble together enough appropriately sunny tunes to accentuate the season, in 2009 the hardest part has been keeping up with the deluge of great material, and now, throwing their hats into the ring are Barcelona three piece Delorean , with their fantastic new EP, Ayrton Senna . The operating word here is "uplifting." These are all airy, up tempo, synthpop tracks [...]
