Here's my late-arriving weekend rundown:] Tonight: Alan Palomo's Neon Indian [pictured; download below] brings its multimedia synthscapes to the Echoplex for a night of cool electro that includes Keenhouse , Tigercity and Little Red Radio . ... Julian Casablancas hits downtown's Palace Theatre for Week 3 of his residency. ... Party guys Iglu & Hartly try to build on their U.K. buzz with a show in their home city at [...]

Volta by Björk 2007, Atlantic, 10 tracks at 51 min. Listen Buy CD RATING: 28 out of 50 Oh, Volta . Björk's most… recent album. Do we really have to review this? Do you know I've been trying to review this album for, like, two years? Two frigging years ? Not like this is Tristram Shandy—it's not. Did you read that last sentence in a really snobbish art kid tone? Well, you [...]

You'd think with a name like Diamond Watch Wrists it'd be a flashy-ass glam rap record. No sir, and I'll thank you not to stereotype. This one totally slipped through my proverbial crack until it came up on my shuffle on a train ride, and I spent the next eight hours listening to it pretty much non-stop. It's so good. I don't care what Pitchfork says , it's so fucking good. So breathy and glacial and layered and gorgeous, like Bjork with five heads. It all sounds kind of samey, but the thing is that [...]

Early morning view from my room in Shanghai. 2004. Brilliant year! This blog is born! Back in London! Good year. My favorite song was, without a doubt, Keane's swoony epic, Your Eyes Open , which reminded me of Ultravox and hits like Reap The Wild Wind . This was the return of the romantic male singing voice after years in the growling butch wilderness. My other favorite song was unlikely: Nancy Sinatra's performance of a song Morrissey wrote for [...]

X Factor 3, ultime battute. Esce Paola Canestrelli . Resta [...]
Juan Son recently confessed he never liked Porter and that he doesn't like Mermaid Sashimi anymore, whatever he's planning to do next will be interesting to hear. I see him going back to rock edges; although it's clear he loves pop music (I guess he can be more exuberant in it). His solo album is aging quickly, I still find it remarkable but it's nowhere near the transcendence of Porter's Atemahawke . But no matter what, the guy is creative and has one of the most striking voices in music (it never stops surprising me), it's so [...]

The Moomins are a family of trolls who were brought to life by famed Finnish illustrator and writer Tove Jansson in a series of books. Their popularity spread throughout Scandinavia and elsewhere, and there is even a Moomins theme park in Finland, which must be a haven to anyone who has sucked up one too many bong hits. There's a Moomins movie on the way, titled Moomins and the Comet Chase, and like many recent kid-friendly productions, the makers of the film have turned to some interesting musical talent to help with [...]
Icelandic pop pixie to soundtrack Swedish troll flick...

Bjork isn't the most normal of characters so it isn't surprising she likes 'Moomins' so much so she decided to write a song about the weird little creatures. I see you staring blankly at the screen wondering - A Moomin WTF? Yeah agreed and don't' start questioning your cool status and that you've missed the boat on yet another fad. It's a made up character in the upcoming Finnish children's film 'Moomin's and the Comet Chase' due out around August 2010. And our dear Bjork appreciates them so much she wrote a song for the movie, [...]

Yall might know Kria Brekkan as the wife of popular 2k9 buzzband 'the Animal Collective', more specifically, the band member Avey 'David Portner' Tare. She has apparently already created tons of music on her own, as well as with the popular Icelandic runoff band "múm." [via the post-Bjork+SigurRos era]. (not sure if Iceland still has a thriving creative economy now that their 'financial/real' economy is 'in the shitter') I recently saw Kria Tare-Brekkan's new LP cover, and wondered what it was all about. Appears to be a concept album based on the popular female topic [...]

Back to Andrew Weatherall's group of the early 1990s, Sabres of Paradise. This time with remixes of other people's work. Includes Chemical Brothers, Bjork and Red Snapper. Andrew Weatherall's Sabres of Paradise were one of the U.K.'s most celebrated experimental techno groups. A combined effort of Weatherall and collaborators Jagz Kooner and Gary Burns, the group released a flood of singles and EPs, many of which were collected on compilations released by Warp and Weatherall's other main focus: the Sabrettes label, with releases from Plod and Slab, among others. Born in Windsor, Berkshire, Weatherall considers himself [...]
Bjork regalerà la nuova "The Comet Song" ai Moomins, cartone animato finlandese di cui è atteso il film al cinema nel prossimo 2010.

Filed under: Movies , New Music Bjork has written a new song for the forthcoming Finnish children's movie, 'Moomins and the Comet Chase.' The Icelandic singer will lend her unique pop approach to the film, which explores the hippo-like trolls created by author/illustrator Tove Jansson. Titled 'The Comet Song,' it was written by Bjork with her frequent collaborator Sjón, who doubles as the author of titles like 'Bachelorette' and 'Wanderlust.' According to Bjork's website , the movie from Filmkompaniet is expected to be [...]

Photo by Filkoe I saw Tune-Yards (not TuNe-YaRdS, as I'm afraid of my shift key) open for the Dirty Projectors last week while visiting the cold and wet Salt Lake City. I had no idea who they (I later found out it was just a she) were, but the gorgeous, all-over-the-spectrum noises this woman was making, all on her own, mind you, was downright awesome . As Merrill Garbus (the woman) banged and bellowed and wailed through her set, I excitedly tweeted about the excellence my ears were treated to. [...]
Are you a dance music producer who wouldn't mind a plummy record deal? Lot 49 , UK dance music label, are looking for the next big thing. One lucky winner wins a three EP deal on Lot 49, mastered at London's Wired Masters studios with Kev Grainger (Steve Angello, Bjork, Gilles Peterson) [...]
It's titled 'The Comet Song'. It'll see daylight in the summer of 2010. Head to Bjork's official site for further info. In August, Patrick Wolf covered Bjork's 'Hyperballad'. MP3: Bjork - Nattura (Switch Mix)
