Someone should cue "Today Was A Good Day". Waking up and listening to so much good music, has put a smile on my face. I actually got these last night, but didn't get a chance to post til now. The "these" I speak of are two more songs from the Dame Dash x Black Keys project: Black Roc . If you haven't caught on by now, the project is the brain child of Dame Dash who became familiar with the Black Keys after a co-worker failed to invite to one of their shows. He fell in love with the [...]

I' m bewitched, bothered and bewildered, with a very strong emphasis on bewildered . I feel so out of the loop. I'm looking at Billboard 's new Hot 100 and wondering, where did the superstars go? Suddenly, the charts are dominated by total strangers? Most of the Top 10 songs are by acts no one had heard of a few months ago: Owl City (above, second, No. 2), Jason DeRulo (above, top, No. 3), Iyaz (No. 4), Jay Sean (No. 7) and Ke$ha (above, third, No. 10). Lady Gaga (No. 9), Lady Antebellum (No. 5, no relation) and [...]

I am surprised at myself. I don't know why I didn't mention the Blakroc project before this post. I got to stop being so lazy!!! For those of you that are unfamiliar with the project, now is a good time to get educated. Blakroc is the collaboration project of The Black Keys with a variety of rappers. The rappers include somke A-listers such as Ludacris, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Mos Def, Raekwon, and RZA. The Black Keys tone down the dirty garage rock and play more soulful tunes that allow the rappers to feel the soul in their bones [...]

I am going to hop into my alternative bag for a minute and post this Grizzly Bear video for their dope track 'Ready, Able' off their album, 'Veckatimest'. If you haven't heard of these guys do yourself a favor and research cause they might be the next 'Black Keys' or the next alt-rock band that will be working with the hip hop community. Q-Tip kills his part of "Hope You're Happy," the new Blakroc single, outshining the shouting contributions from Billy Danze and Nicole Wray, which shouldn't be surprising, since dude is, apart from Mos Def, the only rapper who sounds totally natural over the earthy tones of the Black Keys' restrained blues. The Blakroc project is shaping up nicely, but I haven't heard anything that has rocked my socks off quite like Black Keys albums. The Blakroc Project is due out on Nov. 27. Download: [...]
blakroc-hope_youre_happy__feat uring_billy_danze_nicole_wray_ and_q-tip This is the latest from the Dame Dash/Black Keys collaboration known as BlackRoc. Nicole Wray is the unsung hero in this song in my opinion, her gritty singing meshes well with the bluesy riffs of the Black Keys and you know I am always happy (pun intended) to see Q-Tip on a verse. I'm not [...]
Highlights from the Voodoo Experience: 30 October - 1 November 2009 - New Orleans / In its 11th year the festival welcomed a plethora of musical greats to help embrace New Orleans under Halloween's spell. It has been two weeks since the Voodoo Experience and I finally feel that my life is back in order. As New Orleans' premiere fall music festival, it's geared to worship music and showcase New Orleans all while embracing the Halloween spirit. In its 11th year the festival welcomed a plethora of musical greats including, but not limited to: Ween, the Flaming Lips, [...]
So the new Relix magazine just turned me on to BLAKROC - a new album coming out featuring the Black Keys w/ guest spots by the RZA, Q-Tip, Mos Def ,Jim Jones among others. The whole thing came about when Damon Dash reached out to the Keys to have one of his artists (Jim Jones) collaborate with them on an album. Once they got going, Dash reached out to a variety of other MC's who all wanted to contribute to this unique outfit. The results are fittingly awesome. I't seems the guys from the Black Keys are on a creative [...]

It's all over the net right now so I am sure you have heard of it. But Blakroc is certainly one of our most anticipated releases this year. It will be available 11/27 FYI. What is it? A collaboration between one of our favorite bands The Black Keys and some of hip hops finest. On it you will get tracks featuring Mos Def, Raekwon, RZA, Ludacris and more. They have a trailer and 9 "webisodes" up on the official site. Here is one of my favorite quotes from the making of the album: [...]

I'm going to do something different here. Have you ever had the experience of going to a show, only to find out that the band you were there to see wasn't the headliner? If you go to shows a lot, it happens, especially when each band on the bill is at similar places in their careers. Well that's exactly what happened the other night at D.C.'s ever so tiny Red and Black. While the Evangelicals were set to be the nights closer, Holiday Shores were the reason I was there. It wasn't anything personal, just happenstance that they [...]

From the previously discussed Blakroc project, which pairs the Black Keys with assorted hip-hop artists, the first leaked track has made its way around the Internets. On the Vista features Mos Def rhyming over an intermittent wailing guitar line before he closes the track on some poetry-style talk-singing. The album is due out on Nov. 27 - "Black Friday." For those that thought that the year was over and no more relevant releases were going to be released, may I bring your attention to Blackroc . The unlikely collaboration between the native sons from Ohio ( the Black Keys) and some of the world's best MC's (Mos Def, ODB, Ludcaris, RZA, Jim Jones) brings grimy instrumentals with grimy lyrics to formulate one polished product. The Damon Dash project isn't overproduced and the mutual admiration of all parties involved is felt on the breath of every word and sticky guitar lick. The S/T album , [...]
