Parker ] Acidjack reports: "I had not seen the Jesus Lizard since Lollapalooza 1995 - the last year I choose to think of as being remotely true to what that festival was about. As hard as it is to believe that was 14 years ago, it is even harder to understand how frontman David Yow & Co. have managed to bring back this band - essentially dormant since 1999 - with this much ferocity. Yow may be 14 years older and a bit [...]
No shadow no stars no moon no cars November it only believes in a pile of dead leaves and a moon that's the color of bone No prayers for November to linger longer stick your spoon in the wall we'll slaughter them all November has tied me to an old dead tree get word to April to rescue me November's cold chain Made of wet boots and rain and shiny black ravens on chimney smoke lanes November seems odd you're my firing squad November With my hair slicked back with carrion shellac [...]
by john ziegler Blood Feathers is a band from Philly. They're tough dudes. They like rock music and rhythm and blues and that boogie woogie shuggie shuggie and catfish and pie a whole lot. They drink plenty sweet tea, whatever that means, and they once set a piano on fire. Not many folks know them because they cut one Dixie-dynamite sumbuck of a record a few years ago called Curse and Praise [...]
Ripping on to store shelves and tearing through sales records faster than slugs from a M4A1 assault rifle, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has arrived. Modern Warfare 2 is developer Infinity Ward's successor to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The game is a first-person shooter that picks up five years after the events of the previous game and chronicles the blood-soaked tale of a new conflict between the multinational military squad Task Force 141 and Russian Ultranationalists under the leadership of an evil terrorist named Vladimir Makarov. To describe MW2 simply: it's a balls-to-the-wall, [...]

Compiling a list of this magnitude is a daunting task, so we're going to start with a disclaimer. This is "our" favorite albums of the decade and we make no claims that this is the defining, music snob list that you should bow before as you read it. While we shunned the concept initially, we've been disappointed to see a lot of our favorite albums being ignored by the likes of Pitchfork and others. Obviously, there will some overlap (how many Radiohead albums does your list have?), but in general we think this list gives you a [...]

This clever little number definitely could have come courtesy of Sterling Cooper. I think a lot of the world's problems can be attributed to over caffeinated jag-offs, who put this false sense of intelligence into some of the stupidest ventures imaginable. How else do you come up with a clothing line where ninjas, robots, tigers, and butterflies are fighting a civil war? The only time I ever drank a Monster, I woke up in a cold sweat, and both Cousin Larry and Balki were laying in a pool of blood on my floor. [...]
" On 9 November, thinking to deal with the crisis, the Politbüro met and decided to relax travel restrictions. People would be allowed to travel freely and be prohibited from leaving the country only in 'special exceptional circumstances'. The session went on into the night. At this stage the regime had taken to holding a regular press conference with the international media. That evening, Politbüro member Günter Schabowski needed to get to it. He hadn't been to the session, but was hastily given a note of its decision to read out at the press conference. When he finished, [...]

You wouldn't really know this because I don't really ever bring it up, but I'm quite a big fan of The Strokes. Both "Is This It" and "Room On Fire" got an exceptionally high number of plays from start to finish back in the day, and I still return to them on a regular basis when I need something a little fun and summery. Whether we want to admit it or not, The Strokes really did play a huge role in the revitalization of garage rock, and that so many of their songs still sound fresh nearly 10 years later [...]

Dylan said he'd know his song well before he'd start singing. Jai Little Diamond (one Mike Taylor) isn't in a hurry to sing any half-learned tune. When his celebrated alt-country band, The Court and Spark, darkened several years ago Diamond and fellow Sparker, Scott Hirsch, wrote some tunes, gathered together a roadworthy band and played some dates as Hiss Golden Messenger . Fast forward to the summer of 2009; Diamond is resettled in rural North Carolina, Hirsch is in NYC and their first album, Country Hai East Cotton (reapandsow), is signed, sealed and delivered. Boasting a lineup [...]

Gr eets. Just three records this time, and a lot of back-fill. One of the records is on an archived previous post. So, you'll have to hit the link back to it to hear the audio and read the other Bo connection to it that I did not get into this time. I plan to cut off my detailed retrospective on the late Mr. Bocage's early career at 1966 or so. Other than the one Seven B issue this time, I won't be getting into that label or what lies beyond in the near future. [...]

Thursday at CMJ saw another opportunity to get back out amongst the day shows, many of which centred around the Ludlow St combination of Piano's and Cake Shop, more or less neighbours on this stretch. It was at the former that I started day 3, hitting up one of the many Brooklyn Vegan parties. Having actually touched on Surfer Blood (right) earlier this week here , I'll [...]
Boys Noize , aka Alex Ridha, certainly isn't endearing himself to those of us tasked with reviewing his latest effort. Listening to the advance version of Power is an altogether frustrating experience; each track is peppered with digitised voices reminding the listener that what they're hearing is a promo copy and that it's "good stuff." The tactic may dissuade piracy but it's also a nuisance that makes it mightily difficult for anyone with honorable intentions not to give up and smash the CD against a wall. But luckily for you, dear reader, State is made of sterner stuff. [...]

Who : Weezer Title : Raditude Release Date : November 3rd Label : Geffen Thoughts : If you are expecting Weezer to revert to some mid-90's incarnation of the band you should just stop it right now. You are disillusioned and possibly bordering on some sort of psychosis that some trained professional can diagnose for you. The Weezer we once knew and loved have disappeared forever into a world of catchy hooks and lyrics that don't mean anything. Depending [...]

This past sunday i headed down to The Talking Head to check out Sea Wolf and was surprised with a couple solid opening sets by Port O'Brien and Sara Lov . The night started out a bit delayed as the sound check was still going on well after doors were supposed to be opened, so the crowd just hung out in the lovely talking head alley in hopes of staying out of the way of whatever death metal fest was going on next door at sonar. [...]

Shortly after our time at ACL, we realized that we failed to interview any of our favorite local acts playing over the weekend. To make up for our miscue, we caught up with up and coming Austin artist Black Joe Lewis via email. Black Joe has been hard working hard and touring the country with his band The Honeybears after releasing his debut LP earlier this year. Follow the jump to read full interview. ATH: You haven't been playing music too long. When and why did you [...]

It wasn't too long ago ever blogger out there was begging to find out Fake Blood 's identity. All the meanwhile they were eagerly awaiting a legit copy of his track "Mars". Well, "Mars" was released and as time passed Fake Blood proved himself to be more than just the gimmick of a mystery identity. Now, Cheap Thrills is dropping an EP of "Mars" remixes that features Label owner, Hervé 's remix as well as ones from Boy 8-Bit , Jack Beats , and Style of Eye . If you didn't already know, [...]
