Swan Fungus reader / contributor Ben still has swine flu. Here's hoping him a speedy recovery so that I we can read all about how much Sufjan Stevens SUCKED at ATP this year. Two Boots Night Tripper pizza, you make every meal feel like an orgasm. I'm trying to cut back on my pizza/cheeseburger intake these days, but I don't mind eating unhealthily tonight as Kasi commented today that I looked "different" before realizing that I've lost a considerable amount of weight this month. Oops. It's hard to remember to eat food. Two Boots plus LOST [...]

I was only able to go to the second night of the Homegrown Fest at Church but I'm OK with that. You know why? Because that night had one of the best lineups I've ever seen. Fucking ridiculously awesome. Because so many bands played and I could easily write a whole review for each set, I'm just going to post the pictures I took coupled with what I wrote on Twitter immediately after each performance. There are more photos on my Flickr page if you're into that sorta thing. [...]

Monday, July 13 Animal Hospital , Truman Peyote , Our Brother The Native , Religious Girls at Gay Gardens (donate, 8:00, all ages) Whoa this is a crazy awesome show. Animal Hospital & Truman Peyote are representing some of Boston's best accessible experimental (in a good way). Our Brother The Native and Religious Girls are on tour together and Fat Cat Records who saw OBTN at Death By Audio the other night said they were "rib achingly loud." Both OBTN and Religious Girls have that new [...]
Oh man, what a horrible day. Today was to start my five consecutive days of working open-close, and I woke up to a $3,000 tax levy from the IRS. Bank account frozen for the next 21 days? Check. Funds already removed in anticipation of transferring to the government? Check. Surprised Evan upon discovering that the problem stemmed from a famous incident in 2006 that is still a touchy subject? Not at all. I just hope this one gets worked out soon. After that...big changes. Softball last night ended in a bitter defeat. I'll write the recap when I [...]

Taken from the Acid Archives, as reviewed by Aaron Milenski: "There is no album I own that has as much emotional complexity and depth as HARVEST OF DREAMS. Bobb Trimble's previous album, IRON CURTAIN INNOCENCE, is of equal musical value, but HARVEST OF DREAMS is the one that exposes all of his inner demons, all of his hopes and all of his joy. Everything about this album, from the strange album cover to the name of his publishing company, can be interpreted in multiple ways, and every listen to the record reveals new nuances. How far [...]

<-- Bobb Trimble (r) with Gary War on guitar and Nick Branigan on drums. Along with Kris Thompson on bass and Karina DaCosta on vox, you've got The Flying Spiders, photographed here in the WFMU live room (by Tiffany Camhi) In his early 20s, Bobb Trimble self-released two surreal psychedelic folk albums: "Iron Curtain Innocence" (1980) and "Harvest of Dreams" (1982). He played a handful of shows around the local Worcester, MA area with teenage backing bands The Kidds and The Crippled Dog Band, then disappeared. Meanwhile, his recordings lived on as [...]

Gary War - Good Clues There's a not so new trend going on right now. And not just in music, either. All media. It's new and old at the same time. I know I'm not the first to point it out and I'm also a year or two late in doing so, but I'm doing it now because it's relevant to me. There's a new exhibit at the Peabody Essex Museum right now called [...]

Alright guys. Here's the deal. July 16-19. At Church . CRAZY SHIT. Dan Shea/ BOWAAC threw together a fucking amazing festival with a ton of awesomeness. $28 for 4 days. $28! That's like almost a dollar a band. Just send the money through Paypal to bowaac@gmail.com. But you gotta act quick, 'cause that price is only good until July 1. Afterwards, you'll have to buy single day tickets for $10 a pop via Church. Oh, and because Church is kinda lame, the fest is 21+. Yup, all 4 days. Anyway, check out this (mostly) completed lineup. It's like [...]
Today I'm listening to some old stuff that's new again alongside some new stuff that sounds a bit like old stuff. Mexican Summer 's release of a Bobb Trimble 7-inch reminded me of the Secretly Canadian Trimble releases that came out awhile back. I was shocked to look back and discover that I never posted a damn word about these when they came out, because I really did enjoy them. And going back and listening again now, I can say that I still do. MP3: [...]

The next batch of Mexican Summer releases have shown up on their website and include a subscriber-only 7-inch from Bobb Trimble , featuring this great track that also appeared on one of Secretly Canadian 's 2007 Trimble reissues: Bobb Trimble - "One Mile From Heaven" (Short Version) Also due is a 7-inch (now up for pre-order ) from Farmer Dave Scher, who you may remember from the the great Beachwood Sparks or All Night Radio. And lastly but [...]
If I am going to be down all day, I'm bringing all of you with me. Sickness, disappointment and sadness continue to take their toll on me. Maybe after listening to this you'll get it. Ha! Originally posted by Fantasy : "Rural folk weeper with an unnerving tortured feel like Bobb Trimble. Vocally, he resembles John Denver, with some oversinging thrown in for good measure. The highlights are: "Angels Don't Need Friends", an amazing downer track where he breaks down crying, and "Babe Is It Easy" which continues the crying theme and adds running water [...]

Bobb Trimble - Iron Curtain Innocence (1980, Vengeance) Every time I listen to this album I'm overwhelmed by how out of place it sounds. By the time 1980 rolled around there was very little music coming out that could even be considered remotely psychedelic. Apparently Bobb Trimble failed to notice this, or maybe he just didn't give a shit. At a time when his peers in Worcester, MA were neck deep into punk rock, Trimble broke suit by unleashing a whopping 300 copies of this space-psych-folk masterpiece to little or no reception. [...]

Just a reminder we'll be broadcasting live at 8PM Eastern this Friday, March 20th from Texas! WFMU's returning to curate a nighttime showcase at the SXSW Festival , this time joined by our pals at Aquarius Records in San Francisco. We've handpicked 14 (!) bands once again that we love, and the schedule runs as follows (times are central time) . WFMU will broadcast half of the sets live (a mix of both FMU's and AQ's picks), and we're hoping to bring some of the remaining sets to you at a later date. [...]

It´s surely a mark of genius when you put the following text on the back of your album (and in 1980 at that!): ´Dear John, Paul, George and Ringo, if I´m a good boy and work real hard, may I please be the 5th Beatle someday. Your friend, Bobb.´ Thanks to a recent short but intriguing post over at the Starmaker Machine blog, I recently discovered Bobb Trimble, a typical outsider artist. Wikipedia has a fine definition of outsider music for us. "Outsider music are songs and compositions by musicians who are [...]
