Heavyweight new techno from Valmay, contributing three tracks of smarter dubwise killers. As it's on James Ruskin's Blueprint label the styles are noticeably tougher than the majority of dub techno out there, from the Mike Dehnert styled hard-swung bass of 'Radiated Future' to the Delta Funktionen styles of 'Old Dog' or the classically tough grind of 'Distrust' all designed for a thoroughly good bosch session! James Ruskin's Blueprint Records has had an awesome run since returning to the spotlight. The tempo has taken a slight drop, but the pressure remains; there is no compromise [...]

Often, when following the trail which meanders over the hills, I pull myself up in an effort to encompass the glory and the grandeur which envelops the whole horizon. Often, when the clouds pile up in the north and the sea is churned with white caps, I say to myself: 'This is the California that men dreamed of years ago, this is the Pacific that Balboa looked out on from the Peak of Darien, this is the face of the earth as the Creator intended it to look.' [...]
the story goes that hieronymus bosch was a member of the adamites sect, heretical, obsessed with the fleshier temptations, but one where cock and cunt were free from sin. they sought a world of guiltless sex, of euphoric screwing, of blissful fucking, of carefree boning. you get the slightly soiled picture, non? so his garden of earthly delights triptych (see where i'm going with this…) could be read not as a warning against the pursuit of sloppy pleasure but as a vision of earthly heaven. not so much a narrative of innocence, temptation and the hellbound fall due to those [...]

Lightning Bolt's fifth album Garden Of Earthly Delights ( Load , 10/13) opens like a riot with "Sound Guardians." It's the perfect place to get acquainted with the collection, so we asked drummer Brian Chippendale about it. You've heard " Colossus ," now hear Chippendale talk about how he and Brian Gibson arrive at song titles (hint: Soundgarden and the Boredoms are involved), why they put "Sound Guardians" first, and whether or not their new Garden was inspired by the 15th/16th-century Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch. We didn't have enough room for his ruminations in the 'Gum [...]

On October 6th, Daniel Johnston will look to add to his already illustrious career... but in a way you might not think. For his newest studio album, Is and Always Was , the legendary singer/songwriter decided to step away from the lo-fi in favor of the masterful production of Jason Falkner (of Beck, Air, and Paul McCartney fame). The intention, as the issued press release explained, was "to take the rock and roll symphonies in Daniel's prolific musical brain and deliver fully-realized and professionally-produced recorded songs." The result, if you believe the same [...]

"Money often costs too much." - Ralph Waldo Emerson 'One for the money', that's what we call it. And considering the looks of this joint, they have a lot of it to splash around. In this, the time of the financial house of cards, it seems this bunch of product pimps are doing a roaring trade. All the signs are there: parking lot crammed with all the right insignia, rows of shiny new models, winking away as the dirt poor shuffle past the electrified fence. Labels and egos in all [...]

As I mentioned previously , Prof. Klein is a bit of a stickler about getting these Numerology pieces right beyond a shadow of a doubt. Instead of chalking early attempts up to the blogging learning curve like the rest of us, he stays awake at night, shaking with regret that low hanging fruit like the number 7 was not given its proper due. So today, before the 7th month bids farewell for another 12, we continue to rewrite history. (JK) "A movement is accomplished in six stages And the seventh brings return. [...]
The Blog Parties is a monthly showcase that brings the sound of musicblogs to Ekko in Utrecht and Winston in Amsterdam. 6th (Ekko) and friday the 7th (Winston). On this first edition the main act is Dead Pixels from London. Dead Pixels bring reminiscence to Joy Division, but somehow seem to avoid sounding like Editors or Interpol. Maybe because of their female singer or because of their electro influences. Sounding dark and catchy at the same time, they are a different sound in the overcrowded London music [...]

While I went to punk shows on and off for a few years, it wasn't until 1987 or so when I regularly started going to punk shows all the time. At the time, in Seattle, the Teen Dance Ordinance made it hard to put on all-ages shows, so venues in nearby towns like Tacoma and Bremerton had success in drawing a lot of us from the city to shows. In Tacoma the primary all-ages punk venue was the Community World Theater, an old movie theater turned punk venue that hosted about three dozen shows in 1987 and 1988. [...]
