Here is the final installment of our unscientific, should-not-be-used-for-news-an d-reporting-purposes survey results. As you probably know by now, the following answers were culled from a variety of people in the arts, music and entertainments communities. The last question we asked them was: How do you think we'll listen to music ten years from now? Our respondents' answers ranged from silly to philosophical to downright Sci-Fi! We hope you enjoy reading them. And thanks so much to everyone who took the time to participate. Douglas Wolk, writer: [...]

By Lars Gotrich As soon as a musical movement gets a name, someone is already declaring it dead. Sometimes you wonder about the people who coin the terms; whether they regret the mass categorization of a tight-knit group's creative output. It's almost baffling how quickly "hot new thing" status gets doled out, only to receive backlash, inspire an academic write-up in The New Yorker , experience backlash against the backlash, become loved ironically, and then wind up staunchly defended by those who've been there since the beginning. Because, you know, it's just rock 'n' [...]

Drums Play Spaceland Monday Night (and It's Free) Ray Davies put on a fantastic show on Saturday night at the Orpheum. If you get a chance to see him on this tour do not hesitate. More on that later. Another great week this week. If you're into buzz bands you might want to check out Drums tonight, The Big Pink on Wednesday, Tape Deck Mountain on Thursday, Neon Indian on Friday and The XX on Saturday. Some of those will be good, but I'm recommending a variety of [...]
It's taken me since my first listen to Tha Carter III , but I've had an epiphany: Lil Wayne doesn't give a shit about anything other artists do. This is a guy who records all the time and opens up his mouth and immortalizes on tape his sizzurp-fueled ramblings on luxury cars and his bedroom skills. The enjoyable thing about Lil Wayne is just watching him go. He's a great mix of today's rap: Sex-driven men who gleefully drown in their own testosterone and drug-addled rappers with some messed up daddy issues. And [...]

Being the young age I am (under 30) this last decade was really the one where I can intensely focus on new releases, critically analyze and find real magic in modern music. As much as I wish I was cool enough to say I bought "Slanted and Enchanted" on vinyl the day it came out or smoke a joint and sit around with my friends about to listen to "The Bends follow-up album" with everyone saying "this better not suck!" But since I never saw Nirvana in a basement and didn't hear "Loveless" until Billy Corgan recommended it I'll just stick to [...]
The official artwork for Alicia Keys eagerly anticipated 4th studio album, "The Element Of Freedom" , has finally been disclosed yesterday. The visuals (one for the standard, the other for the deluxe edition of the album) are simply stunning. The singer, photographed by the talented Yu Tsai , is pictured eyes closed, wearing an elegant feather top (the bird being a metaphor for her new found artistic freedom). "The Element Of Freedom" will drop in France on December 11th, in the meantime, enjoy the video of a live performance of [...]

It's November, middle of autumn, and a time of nostalgia, especially as this year marks the end of the first decade of the 21st Century. The last ten years have been awfully good for music fans. And I didn't start properly taking an interest in music until at the earliest 2003. Shame on me. But retrospect is a good thing and its been the last few years where I've looked back at some of the best albums that I've been able to pick the ones that I have for each year. It's nothing to do with what was popular, critically [...]

Last Friday, we sent C=T contributor Molly Müeller to catch the first in a wave of buzz shows to slam Denver. Art Brut-DC Comics and Chocolate Milkshake [mp3] Surfer Blood-Swim (To Reach the End) [mp3] The opening act for Friday night's Show at the Bluebird, Jim McTurnan and the Kids that Killed the Man appeared to be playing mostly to a small group of friends; it was early and there were just a few people gathered [...]

words and photos by BBG Laurie & John of Ludicra ! This sounds like a highly appropriate tweet from guitar great John Cobbett: just spent approx 12 hours working on one riff. It divided like a fractal into 4 riffs, an intro and a multi-part verse. fascinating eh? Though I can't guarantee it, there's a good chance that Cobbett was referring to riffs written for Bay-Area black metal greats Ludicra , [...]

This was the greatest decade of music for me as a fan. There were so many incredible albums, almost all by bands I'd never even heard of in 2000, discovered almost entirely through the same musical venue that you are reading write now -- the Internet. At the dawn of the decade, I was approaching a rock fan milestone that presumably signaled the end of my interest in cool new music (I turned 30 in 2001), while at the same time, the rock music industry (ie. whatever they played on the radio) had devolved into a hybrid of cheap rap-rock [...]
