![[Live] Final Fantasy + Timber Timbre @ Knox United Church](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2024470_lg.jpg)
So, if one were to peruse all the way down to the LAST live review this blog did, one might get the impression that churches are the new 'it' venue. And while that review was done over a year ago and by someone not writing for this blog anymore, this impression would still be correct. Churches are in. Hip. Cool, even. Not so much when there's churchgoers IN them, maybe, but who can blame the indie scene for wanting to pillage those considered acoustics and (probably) lower rental fees in an almost *gasp* ungodly and impure [...]

For this edition of Track By Track, Caravan of Thieves guitarist Fuzz shares a quick factoid about each track on his band's debut album, Bouquet. Fuzz is probably best known to our audience as the Deep Banana Blackout guitarist, but his latest project shows a completely different side of his musicality. Bouquet features gypsy-flavored songs with gorgeous harmonies that swing. The disc is currently available through CD Baby and iTunes . Caravan of Thieves have spent plenty of time on the road [...]

With the Buffalo Bar less than a week away we've decided it's time to bring forth some information on the bands who will making appearances, in the form of an interview. We pinned down Hair Traffic Control and they gave us a lengthy series of intelligent answers: Firstly, could you introduce yourself to our readers and briefly explain how the band started? Dan: We've been playing together for about 2 years with Ben playing as of his birthday this year, as we couldn't afford a [...]

Play Some Pool - Tribute to Springsteen Released this week, 'Play Some Pool...' is a deserving tribute from Indiepop's finest to rock and roll's greatest working class hero. With 38 songs stretching more than two and half hours there is something for everyone in this brave and heartfelt celebration of the great man's genius. Take MJ Hibbett 's extraordinary version of 'Glory Days'. A song Bruce originally wrote with a hint of self [...]

My Bloody Valentine is going to pass out free earplugs to fans during its upcoming European tour. This idea is about two decades too late for many who have already witnessed the eardrum shattering noise this band emits live. Several friends of mine who have had the good/bad fortune of seeing My Bloody Valentine in concert swear unequivocally that it was the loudest thing they have ever experienced. Bar none. The ringing lasts for days. Both Kevin Shields and Belinda Butcher have ear problems, which will be no surprise to anyone familiar with the band's swirling shoegaze wall [...]
Anamanaguchi [ Official Site , MySpace ] is perhaps the rarest thing today in indie music: they are original. And not the "we are experimental because we make horribly grating noises that nobody else has ever heard before" kind of original. No, Anamanaguchi are the kick ass sort of original. 8-bit arena rock power pop original. Combine Weezer with an old Nintendo and some Red Bull sort of kick ass. The band was awesome enough to sit down with Radio Exile at Vassar College a short while back. [...]

Sorry to come over all serious now chaps. But our blog is based in the North East of England and today we have lost one of our heros Hosta is a Man Utd fan, I support Arsenal as you probably guessed from the gunner post, but we both love football first and today something good really has been lost from football, Newcastle and the North East Region. Hopefully the [...]

The most difficult part of music making is consistency. Writers block, record company problems, band dissolutions and many other factors can make or break a record. It's a tribute to the artists who have stood the test of time that their successes far outweigh their failures. But sometimes the failure will be so extraordinary or unexpected that even the most ardent fan can be excused for wanting to forget about a record. Here are 10 great artists and their biggest duds. We're just having fun, here, so take it easy. We all make mistakes. Right? [...]

There's lots of great shows this week, but there's two in particular we'd like to say a few words about. First up, this Friday at Beauty Bar will be Car Stereo (Wars) FINAL show in Austin. He'll be playing with Astronautalis, Zeale, Neiliyo, MEGAGates. The place will be sure to be packed so get there early. Doors open at 8 and there'll be FREE beer, vodka, and pizza from 9 - 10. Sunday, May 24th from 6-9 p.m. Gastro Non Grata will be layin' it down at the Triple Rock Social Club. $3 cover at the door or a food donation or both. We're happy to have Chef Heather Heartman on board for this one. Her dishes have graced the tables of both Spoonriver and its sister restaurant, Cafe Brenda. Heather will start things off with a mushroom patè followed by Vietnemese grilled pork salad. Rush River Brewing from River Falls Wisconsin will be on hand sampling beers, talking about their beers and pairing [...]

With Phish's summer tour opener at Fenway Park in Boston officially less than one calendar month - and four dreadfully long work weeks - away, you know what that means; it's time to play soothsayer. We all knew it was only a matter of time before the popular rock band made the step up a level to the big stadium shows, but to rock out at one of the greatest and last remaining historic ballparks in the country is, shall we say, fairly exciting. To attend [...]

A long day and a glorious marathon of music... Kick off at 2 pm – a duo with Seymour Wright and Sebastian Lexe r – alto saxophone and piano/electronics. I've seen Wright before a few years ago and didn't take to his assembling/dismantling of his instrument routine. That said – today I felt that I got what he was on about. Wright's a deadpan/zen character in a smart suit, sitting with his cohort Lexer in meditative silence before starting – crackles of sound from Lexer, Wright opening up on alto mouthpiece and various [...]
