I'm with you, kids - let's celebrate the end of another week. Before we leave, though, let's do a quick recap: - We had more fun with Magnetic Fields covers . There's a whole slew of more fun coming this Sunday, when Part Five drops. - I dreamt of crack . which was whack, but it helped to remind me of The Moldy Peaches, which was whacker. It also reminded me to subtly plug my nascent dream blog , which was the whackest of all. - We saw Random [...]

Caribou - Desiree (Note: If you dig Caribou and haven't done it already, check out the four songs from the Caribou Vibration Ensemble that were posted at the Free Music Archive a couple months ago, for they are quite enjoyable.)

For the record, I hate...loathe Bell Internet. Did you know that before the whole Belus CDMA change Bell and Telus did independent research to see which provider had the best reception? Their research concluded that Rogers had the best reception overall and the results were then sold to Rogers ultimately providing Rogers with a genius advertising campaign. Having no relevance to the music I am about to post, let's just get on with the music already. The above is only interesting to Canadian consumers since they know who Bell, Telus, and Rogers is. Aggh...sometimes I just like typing. [...]

Chicago post-punk rawk legends The Jesus Lizard reunited in 2008 and performed at May 2009's ATP vs. The Fans II: The Fans Strike Back in Minehead, England along with the likes of Devo, Killing Joke, and Sleep. By all accounts, and judging by the above photo, it musta been an incredibley intense show. Fast forward to 9/11/2009. The Jesus Lizard take the stage at the Stardust Ballroom up at Kutsher's Resort in Monticello, NY for All Tomorrow's Parties second annual New York festival . In case we had forgotten, David Yow made sure to wish [...]

Under normal circumstances, the four band lineup has become something that I do not look forward to as much as I once did. My attention span and irritability level after 10pm is not what it used to be, and the thought of attending a late show with a bill of more than two bands just seems like too daunting a task sometimes. It also often results in me becoming a bit of a harsher critic by the time I get to bands three and four simply because by that point of the evening I've become a grumpy old man. [...]

Following a few recent live shows , it appears that the mysterious Oni Ayhun is indeed as previously thought, the work of The Knife's Olof Dreijer. Out earlier in May this year OAR 003 is nothing sort of sensational. " Discover steep, rugged canyons, painted rock minarets, desert vistas framed by blooming wildflowers, soaring raptors and singing canyon wrens on the wildest remaining rivers. Join this amazing journey composed of quiet floating as well as exciting whitewater rapids. Search for birds, including both the zone-tailed and gray hawk, elegant trogon, elf [...]

It has been a matter of weeks since I first posted about Bibio and his June 2009 album Ambivalence Avenue . To be honest, the last thing that I was expecting was to see a new album released less than six months later. And while the feat is perhaps dampened by the fact that only [...]
Hello Blogosphere, I'd like to introduce you to Waterloo, Ontario's Pick A Piper . A collective featuring Brad Weber of Caribou , Angus Fraser of Tenth of May , Dan Roberts ex- Winter Equinox and Clint Scrivener, they've written a handful of carefully crafted songs of tribal psych with heavy doses of percussion and electronic flourishes. Gorgeous textures, interesting vocal melodies. Very refreshing for my ears. You'll also like this if you're not normally satisfied with one drum kit on the stage. Pick A Piper perform with two (like bands [...]
![Dark Meat: Truce Opium [Album Review]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2113915_lg.jpg)
Universal Indians was an album that bathed in obscurity. After all, opening track "Freedom Ritual" was a blissful track in which Dark Meat flirted with psychedelic trips and prog afterthoughts. It opened with a near two minute a capella before the epic guitars suddenly burst forth to rip off your face. It also had its painful moments, when over-the-top experimentation left little but a gut-wrenching noise. Truce Opium picks up right where Universal Indians left off, but in a way much stronger. Truce Opium [...]

Strange one Pedro. Sort of IDM folk/jazz but with a difficult edge. Is it called musique concrete? From his MySpace : James Rutledge is a young music producer who lives in London. In the past he has released music on Domino, Melodic, Moshi Moshi, Warp and Wichita and has worked with artists like Dangermouse, Four Tet, Kevin Shields, The Pastels and Prefuse 73. 2007/ 2008 sees the release of his new Pedro album "You, Me & Everyone" with brilliant US label Mush plus a load of remix and production work for bands like Bloc Party, Fever [...]

For fans of Caribou and the Beach Boys comes the sun-drenched electronica of Candy Claws . Everything here is treated and sculpted around a basic pop structure that submerges and rises from the ocean. It's akin to nautical-themed music for hipsters, or just those who want to trip out on something different and imaginative. Acoustic guitars and a myriad of percussive instruments provide the backdrop for some really cool vocal effects -- and plenty of other sounds I simply cannot identify. Kids are so tricky these days. [...]

Larry Gus - Loto Mafam Larry Gus - Brass Park(Surround) So "Larry Gus" is Greek citizen Panagiotis Melidis and Larry Gus is like a pun on the Greek word for throat, larigas . Wordplay! His label website says his music is inspired by the rural environment of his hometown, but also Creedence Clearwater Revival and Minor Threat, which is a confluence of influences that'll grab your attention but won't make your face smile as hard as the music itself, which sounds almost nothing like any of that [...]

Like English compatriots Bonobo and Caribou , Bibio has developed his own electronica style that is at once warm, funky, and full of all things experimental. Following a few releases that embodied a folk/field recording blend, Stephen Wilkinson signed with Warp records, home of my favorite, Boards of Canada . The product of his [...]

I have been working on a party mix for Halloween, for no reason other than I just like to do that kind of thing. It currently consists of 132 songs, and I am trying to wittle it down but it seems like every time I take one out, I put another one in. The selection includes not just obvious must-haves like Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London" and Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party;" but also things that just sound kind of weird or spooky, like Caribou's "Irene" and Lindsey Buckingham's "Slow Dancing." Remixes are well-represented with examples like [...]

![Supercluster: Waves [Album Review]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2055834_lg.jpg)
Supercluster may have that famed super group make-up, but it lacks in the pretentious ego-driven in-fighting to which such groups are prone. The artists behind Supercluster are responsible for some of today's best groups, from Of Montreal and Casper & The Cookies to Deerhunter and The New Sound Of Numbers. Despite the who's-who of indie pop, Waves is a portal into lo-fi psych pop famed to regions like Athens, GA. Also unlike the typical super group, Supercluster lacks overproduction thanks to the hand of Jason NeSmith (Casper [...]
