Lazy posting today. Here's a straight lift from wikipedia :- Originally formed in 1998 while on a break from The Wedding Present, Cinerama started as a duo of Gedge and his then-girlfriend Sally Murrell . The initial releases were a break from previous Gedge records as they featured soundtrack-like arrangements and string and woodwind accompaniment. Live performances included a lot of musicians to play these orchestral/pop songs. Over the years though the sound changed back to more of a rock sound, especially [...]

The Smiles and Frowns got in touch a while ago and I was so impressed that I just went and bought their album and 73, instead of bothering to ask for a promo copy of anything. Well, sod it, I like vinyl and I have a couple of DJing assignments coming up so why the fuck not. I don't know what it was that attracted me to their sound so immediately. Perhaps it was that weird sensation of hearing something so absolutely familiar which has been oddly and subtly subverted. This sounds an awful lot like a certain [...]

Wow, nearly five years of posts and I couldn't find even one Cinerama post in the archive. This song comes from their 2001 Los Angeles show at the Knitting Factory . It happened right before I moved to LA, but I saw them play on the same tour at the 400 Bar in Minneapolis. This is the same show that was officially released as "Live in Los Angeles" but this is sourced from a better than average audience recording with more obnoxious crowd noise and shouting to give you that "you were there" feeling. [...]

Shhh....I've got a secret to tell you. There is an indie-pop scene going on in London that would make their C86 ancestors, drool with envy. Sugar-kissed melodies, soaring girl/boy vocals mesh to make music that ought to be in heavy rotation in every sugar-frosted flake home. Pocketbooks are a great example of a band that ought to be on the cover of NME and earning accolades in every country that loves great pop. This London-based group has just released their first album, Flight Paths to unanimous critical praise. Their inclusion of Motown influences [...]

It's a story I've been dying to share with you for weeks, but I didn't want to interrupt the series of guest postings. It was Saturday 9th May, and I was with three friends travelling by train from Glasgow to Kirkcaldy (via Edinburgh) for the final football match of the season. Despite the weather being absolutely miserable, we were in great spirits as my team, Raith Rovers, had clinched the league title the previous Saturday, and the final match was all set to be played in a party atmosphere with the trophy being presented to the players afterwards. [...]

On the face of it this must be one of the strangest ideas ths boy Gedge has ever had. Taking a selection of his classic Wedding Present and Cinerama songs and performing them with what can only be described as a big band, given away slightly by the fact that they celebrate under the moniker of the BBC Big Band. This surreal event took place at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in David Gedge's hometown of Leeds on 29th April as part of the Fuse Festival. So does it work? If you missed the programs, two half hour sets broadcast on [...]
I remember walking around in the late eighties and sneering at the "30-somethings" wearing old Stones tour shirts. Threadbare and ridiculous, given that the Stones had ceased to be relevent, I was comfortable knowing that I was far hipper wearing my new Wedding Present tour shirt. Twenty years later, the music has held up far better than my shirt. David Gedge and company started releasing brilliant singles in the mid-80's. After getting noticed by the legendary John Peel, their popularity grew as they released their first album 'George Best' in 1987. While a multitude of bands released one [...]
Gary Hustwit , Director of Helvetica , the documentary about typography, graphic design and global visual cultre, is at it again. His newest project, Objectified , explores industrial design and the manufactured objects we surround ourselves with on a daily basis. You know them, your iPod , your sunglasses, your toothbrush. Objectified explores the creative process behind these everyday objects. The film contains interviews with some of today's top product designers and looks at how the things they make surround our every day lives. [...]

image from here Well, it has been awhile that is for sure. Almost forgot how to run this thing.... Don't want to clutter this space with my personal crap but suffice it to say I am lucky to be alive. Suicide attempts are not pleasant things to talk about. Unfortunately, I am still suffering from severe depression, among other things and struggle to make it through each day. Well, enough about that already. This is supposed to be about the music. And I must admit I am on a [...]

Ask Nick where he gets his shoes Right, this week Dearest Tim's really put his feet in it. Well, his feet and those of others. And the "it" he's put them in is this week's Contrast Podcast . Yes, Dearest Friends, the current episode is given over entirely to matters podiatric: tootsies, boots, shoes, walking, and the like. So move your feet over here to download it, and don't forget to comment here . What's afoot: [...]
"Always the same, always different" runs John Peel's famous quote about The Fall, but he could equally have been speaking about those other favourites of his, The Wedding Present. Over a period of more than 20 years, numerous changes of line-up and even a change of name (although ostensibly separate bands, the lines between Cinerama and the Wedding Present are extremely blurred), singer/songwriter David Gedge has remained a reassuringly ever-present fulcrum. From the evidence of tonight's turn-out, the initial upsurge in interest that accompanied the change of name back from Cinerama to The Wedding Present has dissipated [...]

MP3-Download The Wedding Present & Klee «Holly Jolly Hollywod»
David Gedge probably isn't the first person you'd think of to write a sentimental Christmas song. The first time The Wedding Present released a holiday single in 1992, the a-side was called "No Christmas," and the lyrics didn't contain a single reference to anything yuletide related. In fact it's probably one of the bleakest breakup songs he's ever penned. Of course, the b-side was a spirited cover of Elton John's "Step Into Christmas," so obviously he can get into the [...]
Right, I know we've gone quiet here over the last month. You'll have to excuse us a bit. Our relatives over the pond have had some rather distressing things going on so we've been away for a bit and focused on other stuff since we returned. We have, however, been to a few really great gigs recently which have proved far more than a welcome distraction from things. We enjoyed Fleet Foxes at the Academy 2 on November 9th, although we were rather jetlagged so we stood right at the back and heard more than we [...]

When EAR FARM considered our impending move and relaunch at the end of 2007, we decided to switch from a scrolling blog format to a more magazine-y layout that would allow for us to highlight a "cover star"/ Band of the Week each week. In doing so we have featured 43 bands over the course of 2008, ranging from the lo-fi jangly noise pop of Throw Me The Statue to the blistering thrash of Goes Cube . We've had relative unknowns (such as The Laughing and Bombadil ), interviews with indie-rock legends (see [...]
