From their recent album Signal Morning , this is Athens, GA's Circulatory System with 'Round Again'. "After the split of the Olivia Tremor Control, songwriter W. Cullen Hart's first step was to create the Circulatory System. Featuring members of the former Olivias and other notable Elephant 6 luminaries, the Circulatory System's self titled first album is an exploration of the larger and the smaller, the here and the far away, and the now and the forever. Seven and a half years in the [...]

Chicago post-punk rawk legends The Jesus Lizard reunited in 2008 and performed at May 2009's ATP vs. The Fans II: The Fans Strike Back in Minehead, England along with the likes of Devo, Killing Joke, and Sleep. By all accounts, and judging by the above photo, it musta been an incredibley intense show. Fast forward to 9/11/2009. The Jesus Lizard take the stage at the Stardust Ballroom up at Kutsher's Resort in Monticello, NY for All Tomorrow's Parties second annual New York festival . In case we had forgotten, David Yow made sure to wish [...]

i hate taking things out of context and i risk doing that here with circulatory system 's recently released signal morning , which comprises probably more than a million fragments of tunes, sounds and ideas all condensed coherently into a very enjoyable album on the brink of an overflow. it reminds me of what i like so much of the olivia tremor control: a decade into listening to their music, i still here fresh sounds and notice new things i never did before, and i continue expect to do so in future. whatever it is, i've chosen just [...]
With eight years of silence and with no real hype preceding it's release, Circulatory System's second coming has arrived. Signal Morning follows on from their 2001 self-titled début and is basically just one huge amalgamation of varying psychedelic, lo-fi, rock and electronic elements.

One common dilemma faced here on Musical Pairings is that we receive submissions and otherwise discover music by a lot of talented artists and musicians that we'd love to promote, but whose album we haven't yet found an appropriate Musical Pairing. For this reason, we're starting a new semi-regular post here on Musical Pairings featuring some of the new music that we have received, but have yet had a chance to use as a Musical Pairing or Local Pairing. ~~ Tim Williams ' new album is the first featuring the [...]

There is almost no information on Nesey Gallons anywhere on the interweb next to the fact they are from Maine (which is somewhat strange) and they've toured and played shows with some Elephant 6 bands (which isn't strange at all considering the sound of the band). Honestly I don't need a back story to enjoy this band, all I need to go on is the band's sound is tragically low-key and downtrodden folk. Only occasionally is there a 2 part harmony on the newest record by this band Eyes & Eyes & Eyes Ago ; I suppose [...]

Zoned is stoned to the bone, its roots in experimental post- Velvet Underground long-sewn, its various guises serving as the perfect antidote for being alone. I've just got one question: WHERE HAVE THEY BEEN ALL MY LIFE??? Like Swell Maps (look for a review of Sweep the Desert asap), Larry "Wild Man" Fisher , Pinback and so many others, [...]

My review of Signal Morning, the first Circulatory System album in eight years, is online at the Tucson Weekly:Eight years have passed since its first album, and Circulatory System is back with its sophomore release, a hectic and sonically dense collection that pushes the band's experimental side to the forefront. Will Cullen Hart again occupies the center of the Circulatory System. Instead of

It has been eight years since the release of Circulatory System's critically acclaimed, self-titled debut album. One reason for the delay was that primary songwriter, visual artist and former Olivia Tremor Control member Will Cullen Hart was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. This track, from the new Signal Morning (Cloud), features Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel, [...]

Arriving just in time for my weekend road trip, Built to Spill's latest There is No Enemy provided the perfect relief from the upteenth time through They Might Be Giants' Here Comes Science . While it's cute hearing your four-year old singing about the elements and circulatory system, the wife and I needed some Doug Marsch guitar redemption. At first There Is No Enemy is kind of lulling, but slowly but surely, moments arrive, melodies burrow and before we knew it, the album has [...]
