It's always been my contention (And I'm sure others would concur), that the perfect three-to-four minute pop song doesn't need an explanation. One needn't study the lyrics, chart its chord progressions, or burrow into its back story. All the proof you need occurs during the first impression, the second the sound meets your ears. Such is the case with "Certain Famous Covered Bridges," the latest single by the Brooklyn husband-wife duo of Doug Marvin ( Dirty on Purpose, Black Acid, and Neckbeard Telecaster) and Annie Hart (Au Revoir Simone), collectively known as Pursesnatchers. They freely [...]

Thanks to Pete and Debbie at Blue Arrow Records, and thank you to The Lawton Brothers and Prisoners for allowing me the opportunity to provide the pre-game and half time entertainment during last night's free in-store. It was a hot time (I was sweating out the beers as fast as I could drink 'em) and, as always, it was a good time. Really, how can you go wrong on a Thursday night when you have beers, friends, and Rock 'N' Roll music? Kid Flamingo Playlist 08.13.09 1. Eddy Current [...]
With the gnarliest guitar sound outside of A Place to Bury Strangers, it's only a matter of time before Coin Under Tongue blow out their amplifiers, blow out the electricity to whole city blocks, and blow up all over this thing we call the internet. Still, without a full length to their name, but getting closer, Death by Audio Records has released another four-song suite for free download via their website. Like their last internet release, the So Far EP, the tracks on Coin Under Tongue/Hussies at Bay, can be tough to peg [...]

With weather reports predicting high temperatures of up to 95 degrees, day two of Lollapalooza wasn't exactly going to be a walk in the park, either. Well, in some respects it was, but you get the idea. By high noon, mile-long lines had already gathered at every beverage stand, and hundreds of bikini-clad girls flashed around their fresh and fashionable sunburns. Neither shade nor sunscreen made a difference - even the Ice Cream Man couldn't save the day! Instead, while the heat continued to join the thousands of Lollagoers, a mighty wind picked up the slack, cooling things down and [...]

Recording in A Place to Bury Strangers' Death By Audio Studios, it's almost too easy to draw comparisons between the Coin Under Tongue and APTBS. Hell, both bands share a love of love tooth-cracking discharges of guitar via extreme effects pedals. Yet, to leave the introduction with no more than notes of their similarities, is to ignore the fact that Coin Under Tongue are drawing from a far wider pallet than the feedback loving British acts of the late '80s and early '90s. On both "Reception" and "High Until We Die," Coin Under Tongue pair their love [...]

I wake up at 8:30, do some Kundalini Yoga that I learned from Drew, make a huge breakfast, pack my PB&J sandwich for lunch, and bike the 8 miles to work. Then [...]

I had the opportunity to see Holy Fuck play last year here in Chicago and it was really one of the best shows I've seen all year. We were completely lifted to the ceiling and dropped on our asses to the floor by the surge of sound those boys produced! Everyone who's been reading the music blogs has come across their song "Lovely Allen" but not many of you have heard these mash-ups of Holy Fuck's Lovely Allen and A Place To Bury Strangers ' To Fix The Gash In Your Head . Not [...]
