On account of the engulfing amount of actually-naked women available upon a click of my mouse, I can't say I'm too caught up by the new SI Swimsuit Edition cover. Still, for the sake of disparagingly having to tag posts NSFW , I figured I'd share this with the hopes that those of us who simply want to stick it to The Man will blatantly flaunt and share this titillating spread of Andy Roddick's love bunny, Brooklyn Decker , for all in the office to see. I mean, if your grandma can [...]

The Note Books series features musicians discussing their literary side. Previous contributors have included John Darnielle , John Vanderslice , and others. Japanther's lo-fi aesthetic, eclectic samples and legendary high energy live shows combine to make these Brooklynites one of my favorite bands. The band's new album, Rock 'n' Roll Ice Cream , is out March 2nd. Japanther has also published a book, Don't Trust Anyone Over 30 . [...]
Noted and with only two comments: one, this is a tragic story and two, the source is the right-leaning British Daily Mail . "U.S. Army soldier Joshua Tabor has admitted to waterboarding his 4-year-old daughter because she couldn't recite the alphabet, according to police. Tabor, stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington, was arrested after being seen walking around his neighborhood wearing a military-issue Kevlar helmet and threatening to break windows. Cops went to Tabor's home and spoke with his girlfriend, who told them she found the girl hiding in a closet with bruises and scratches on her back and neck. [...]
Here is the first episode of the upcoming HBO comedy series featuring Kid Cudi. I've been hearing a lot about this for a while now, and I still have no idea what to expect. Usually, I'm a fan of things that Kid Cudi is involved in, so I have high hopes. I'm also pretty picky with TV shows (but this is coming from a guy who watches COPS on an almost daily basis), so this could be a hit or miss for me. Thanks to Kid Cudi Pigeons and Planes

Books away, pencils out. Pop quiz time. First question, Puberty is: A. The House Band for the new monthly Trainwreck dance-debauchery party at the Orient Express. B. Side project of Intelligence dynamic duo Lars Finberg and Susanna Welbourne. C. That awkward stage that all humans go through to reach sexual maturation, and that most would like to forget. D. All of the above. The answer of course is D, but for purposes here we're (mostly) interested in A & B. The Intelligence [...]

For once, the cops were called to Charlie Sheen's house and he didn't leave in handcuffs. Charlie apparently left the keys in his Mercedes SUV in an his open garage last night. Someone helped themselves to taking off in the SUV and crashing it off of a cliff. He parked the SUV in his garage at around 8:30 PM last night. At around 4:00 AM, an OnStar-like company called Charlie to report that his vehicle had been in [...]

My blog-buddy Brian aka whiteguyswithbeards released this mixtape. I suggest you download it. If you don't follow him on Tumblr I suggest you do that too. DOWNLOAD: http://www.mediafire.com/?mtiz byj5mmi Here is a collection of new jams from a handful of bands I have been digging lately and writing about. The tracks are mostly new and, for the most part, very local. I envision myself putting one of these together periodically from now on, so consider this the first installment. Track [...]

City Center return with two tracks that sound nothing like their previous Type album, instead winding their way through distorted garage and heated ambiance. City Center – Cops Don't Care 7" City Center drew a lot of heat for comparisons to Panda Bear when their self-titled album came out but this single ought to dispel any rumblings that Fred Thomas is hooked on the same track as Noah Lenox. He dabbles here in a quake of fuzz that [...]

It took a while to finally nail down The Pop Cop's definitive list of the best albums of the past decade, but this wasn't a job that could be treated lightly. The only one of the top 17 choices put in any kind of order is our winner, Everything In Transit by Jack's Mannequin , who, as is this website's way, were presented with an award for their troubles. The band's frontman, Andrew McMahon, had this to say: "Oh my god, are you serious? This is amazing - wow! Thank you [...]

A few (very) quick hitters today as I continue to attempt to clean out my inbox over at ReviewShine First is a band from Belgium by the name of Grant Moff Tarkin . I was immediately drawn to this band by their name... a not so subtle nod to Peter Cushing's Star Wars villian, Grand Moff Tarkin. The core of the group is made up of the singularly named Julax on vocals and the similarly singularly named Huddie on lead guitar. The duo have been writing songs together for [...]
Director: Martin Campbell Release Date: 29/01/10 Link: IMDB If you've looked at the side of a milk carton lately, there's a good chance you've probably seen the acting career of Mel Gibson in the "missing" section. It might be hard to believe, but the last time the 54-year-old actor stepped in front of the camera in a leading role was in 2002 as a conflicted single father and priest in the alien invasion tale Signs . [...]

My boy Casey hipped me to Phantogram a couple weeks ago. Their style is right up my alley. They have dope beats and some sexy female vocals. They hail from New York and seem to have some Hip-Hop influences according to their Top Friends on their Myspace Page . They remind me of Ms. John Soda or Bat for Lashes; electronica tinged Slow Girl. I hope the right people take notice of this band cuz I want to see these 2 blow up in the future and most importantly come play some shows out in LA. [...]

On Saturday Feb 20th , there is a full slate of local rock all smashed into the Comet - likely to cause a total implosion of awesome. Former lead man of the COPS (RIP) Mike Jaworski takes the front again with his newest and greatest project, Virgin Islands. They have only have a single EP, The Age of Anxiety listen here , recorded so far. I have to say, it's righteous front to back and there is not a scrap of fat on it. Fast, furious, frantic rock-n-roll straight through. They've taken all that made the [...]
"A con man trying to impersonate Paul Simon was arrested for trying to take money out of the singer's bank account," reports the Post. Though the man, named Rafael Ramos, had the singer's social s... Homeboys and homeboyettas, I have a confession to make. My confession is that I am going to abandon you. It won't be forever. I would never do that to you. But it will be until Monday. See, way back in December, I got a present from my girlfriend for our anniversary. The present was spending a night out of the city in a quaint bed and breakfast in the country with fireplaces. And at last, that day has come. I know it's not cool to walk away from my one-a-day promise, so now I'm giving you two [...]

From 1962, please enjoy suave r&b/pop balladeer Lenny Welch and the original hit version of a movie song that loomed large in the Beatles' legend -- "A Taste of Honey." The Beatles version (which as you can hear cops all sorts of stuff from the Welch arrangement) is on the 1963 Please Please Me album, of course, and if truth be told I hadn't known that it was a rather faithful cover of a specific earlier record. In fact, I'd never even [...]

It wasn't too long ago when I first stepped foot into the Orient Express down in SODO near the Spokane Street Bridge. I gazed upon the huge fish tanks with a childlike wonder. I roamed the tiny halls with a childlike curiosity. Then I drank shots of tequila like an old fashioned a-dult. Formerly Andy's Diner, the place is now a kitschy Chinese restaurant and lounge constructed ( most awesomely) from several old train cars and home to a myriad of banquet, bar, restaurant and, yes, karaoke rooms. In short, it's a [...]
