Until this year I had never done a top list of albums or songs. When the subject came up I thought this would be an easy task, after all I write for 9b and make mixes and intros on a regular basis. Music is basically my favorite thing in the world so coming up with my favorites for the year should be easy. Hell I probably wrote a review for most of the albums I would include on a top album list and then a top songs list would be even easier. Was I ever wrong! This took the better [...]
Last year, the lot of us put together some of our more unconventional year end lists from 2008. We had a lot of fun doing so, and have decided to make it a yearly thing. John Wenzel ( Denver Post Reverb) Local 1. The Jim Jims - Bottom of the City EP 2. Everything Absent or Distorted - The Great Collapse 3. Wentworth Kersey - (O) EP 4. Houses - Summer EP [...]

Some days things just work together. While I was writing up the review of A Damn Good Ride I dropped by Jeremy Steding's website to look for his bio and such and found out he was playing in town that night. I grabbed a phone number off the site, made a call, and set up some time with him before the show. As luck would have it and one thing leading to another I wasn't as early as I wanted to be but since it was a Thursday night show there wasn't an opening act and [...]

I like free music and I think that's a given for most folks here but the caveat is that music is not like sex or pizza. When music is bad it's not still good whether it's free or not. Jeremy Steding's music is not bad. In fact it's damn good and both his albums are available for free on his website. He's pretty new to the Red Dirt scene. I discovered him listening to Radio Free Texas and was intrigued. So I dropped his website and was even impressed to find both of his albums available fro free. [...]

It may just be my rebellious nature or it may have been seeing AIV post about the Fox Hunt EP and to be honest I don't even know if our gracious host is gonna let this one slip through since by his own admission we don't usually post about EPs and this most definitely a post about one of those. (That may be the longest sentence I wrote all week long) So instead of saying this is a post about the Cory Branan/Jon Snodgrass split E/P on Suburban Home I am going to pretend [...]

Kyle Bylin , Associate Editor I'm particularly proud to announce that not only will I be attending Next Big Nashville , a nationally recognized music festival and conference, but that they've asked me to be a part of the event as well. Here's my first ever "This Week In Chicago" post. I'm still trying to learn all of the main Chicago-area clubs, so my apologies if I've left anything out. Please feel free to drop a comment with any club/show suggestions that I miss. I'm actually not sure if I'm going to make this a permanent feature or not. Unlike DC, Chicago has its own Oh My Rockness site, so any post I do is going to be pretty much duplicative of the excellent work they already do. That said, I kinda like doing [...]

Wait..what? Yeah I'm flying into San Francisco from Portland today so I'll just fill you in on what's going on today. Which is close to nothing unless you're going to the Weezer/Blink 182 show. If you're not going, check out young and talented folk act Good Old War and this dude called Cory Branan over at the Bottom of the Hill tonight. Don't bother with The Honorary Title though, those guys annoy the hell out of me. More Bay Area show updates tomorrow for this coming week. See [...]

The mother of all comps. From our friends at AltCountryTab.ca . The Zipped download is good for one week only. Enjoy! The photo is from a family vacation near LaFollette, Tennessee. Kona the Chocolate Lab leads the chase, but Mikey the Boston Terrier in his personal flotation device will eventually get the tennis ball. I hope I am reincarnated as a dog and I get to spend my next life chasing tennis balls all day. 1. Ben Lee - Away With The Pixies.mp3 [...]
