This Friday I bring you a CRYSTAL CASTLES video I shot from their secret show in LA a couple weeks ago. Alice Glass is one of my favourites to see live so click below and enjoy the show... From a show in 08 after they got into it with security for throwing a drum set off the stage... Their new LP is slated to drop in April along with an LP with their early Demos, don't sleep. [...]

"For a bunch of good looking people, you sure are boring and I can't hang around with that certainty because it dies with the day. A peculiar assessment, She said. Maybe, I continued, Yet even those that don't like me expect a lot. You think you deserve something, and you're mad, she said again and again. I was mad with the desire to believe in an absolute, and fingering the perils of such belief in my mind all day. Of course I deserved something, a million dollars an ounce and I couldn't give this much heart away. I thought that [...]

Michael Silver of CFCF first full-length album titled Continent on Paper Bag Records is out NOW and we've been given the opportunity to take a full listen. The spotlight was originally put on Silver after his his competition winning remix of Crystal Castles "Air War" hit the blogs, followed by a plethora follow-ups that delivered exactly what his fans would expect. I don't think it would be fair to recall CFCF by his remixes after this point as he has made the leap from an excellent remixer to a great overall producer with 'Continent'. [...]
This is not well-written. It's rather depressing. But everything comes straight from the heart...For years I've had the (admittedly) rather odd habit of checking the obituaries/funeral notices, when reading the newspaper at lunchtime. Colleagues have often looked in disbelief and asked me why, but I doubt I've ever been able to come up with a convincing explanation. The closest I've come is probably something like, I do it to remind myself that life is something you "borrow" for a certain period of time and therefore should be treated with enormous respect. Not in any way meaning that I'm constantly forcing [...]

After making a name for himself in the blogosphere in '08 by crafting a barrage of (unofficial) remixes for the likes of Crystal Castles and others, Montreal-based Mike Silver (a.k.a. CFCF ) has gone on to hone a slew of top-notch (and officially sanctioned) remixes, including an awesome re-rub of Sally Shapiro's "Love In July" (the enigmatic Shapiro returned the favor and sang on his single "The Explorers"). Earlier this year he teased us with his groovy Panesian Nights EP and just stepped out with his full-length debut album, Continent. [...]

Qualche sorpresa. Un gruppo inglese (i Libertines ) è stato scalzato dal podio da [...]
Music brag NME has crowned The Strokes' debut album 'This is It' as the best album of the decade. As the naughties come to a close NME (and a long list of music experts) voted for what they thought are the best 100 albums of the decade. With the concluding list spanning artists from Jay-Z to Johnny Cash and a few unexpected ones in between. The New York rockers beat off the likes of Primal Scream's 'XTRMNR' and 'Up The Bracket' by The Libertines to take the holy grail. Mike Skinner must be [...]

This cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Big Love" takes the 1987 hit and dresses it in disco, with something of a breezy Air France style. Even though he's borrowing from an older group than usual -- he's known for his remixes of his contemporaries, such as Crystal Castles and Health -- CFCF manages to keep it sounding modern. Today is the release of the Montreal-based DJ's debut album, Continent .

You Say Party! We Say Die! XXXX Out 02/09/10 Listen to 'There is XXXX' and 'Dark Days' here As 2006 saw a new wave of indie dance-rock hit the radars, with bands like the Klaxons, CSS, Crystal Castles and The Teenagers quickly hijacking the attentions of music lovers and critics all over the world, an up and coming five-piece from British Columbia named You Say Party! We Say Die! (or YSP!WSD! for short) were quickly developing a name for themselves minutes over the Northern borders of Canada (where [...]

Attack of the drones The London electro-pop trio have moved on massively from their first kitchen sink gig at a friend's house in the spring of 2008, to being among the first slew of bands announced for next year's SXSW festival. The band have been among the 'ones to watch' lists for some time. However, the limelight that shone on the majority of solo female electro acts (La Roux, Little Boots) in 2009 is set to radiate their way in 2010. The band - which describes their sound as "8-bit [...]

Here's the weird thing about the British: In general, they have much better taste in music than Americans. While we waste our time on interchangeable pop stars, they're singing the praises of Gossip's Beth Ditto. But their likes and dislikes are very particular - and, in general, they seem to love the kinds of semi-mainstream/semi-indie bands that become one-hit wonders or just never make a huge splash in the U.S. and then fairly quickly fall out of favor with the music-geek set. For example: NME has just named its #1 album of the '00s... and it's [...]

Pleasant surprises are rare in this day & age, but I have to say, one of the nice things about having one of these nifty music blogs, is that you tend to get pleasantly surprised on a fairly regular basis. This is exactly what happened when I listened to CFCF's Continent for the first time a little while ago. I knew nothing about him, other than that he was a Montreal DJ, and I'd seen his name out there as a remixer, but I was caught a little bit off-guard by how much I liked his [...]
