When legendary axeman Dickey Betts got arrested for punching out some cops before a 1993 H.O.R.D.E. show in Stowe, VT, the Allman Brothers Band asked ARU guitarist Jimmy Herring to sit in with them and he stepped up. After the Allmans fired Dickey Betts by fax in 2000 they asked Jimmy Herring to join them for a tour and he stepped up. The trend continued tonight in Charlotte, where Herring filled in for Warren Haynes, who had travel issues, as the Allmans kicked off the second leg of their co-bill tour with Widespread Panic at the [...]
(Below, via his home in Athens, GA, Daniel Hutchens shares his thoughts on the life and work of Jim Carroll...) A while back I wrote a Diversions feature for Aquarium Drunkard about my "ten most influential albums." I found out ten wasn't nearly enough. I had to leave off so many albums essential to my musical [...]

Baby, They Told Us We Would Rise Again is the Athens, Ga. based Bloodkin's seventh album, but this is the first time I've ever heard of them. Bloodkin is; Daniel Hutchens (vocals, guitars), Eric Carter (guitars, backing vocals), Eric Martinez (guitars, backing vocals), William Tonks (guitars, dobros, backing vocals), David Nickel (bass) and Aaron Phillips (drums). When I first heard the album I was immediately drawn in by their similar feel to that of The Drive-By Truckers. A shared home base, a vast array of guitar players and a common sound to DBT is not where the [...]
(Diversions, a new feature on Aquarium Drunkard, catches up with our favorite artists as they wax on subjects other than recording and performing.) This second installment of Diversions finds us with Daniel Hutchens of Athens, GA's Bloodkin - one of my favorite songwriters, wordsmiths and rock & rollers since I first discovered his music over a [...]

Bloodkin Rises from the Flames Bloodkin has been deemed under-appreciated for so long, it has almost become cliche; however, the sentiment has never been more true. Grown from the lifelong friendship between Daniel Hutchens and Eric Carter, the Athens, Georgia band is revered by its peers, but largely ignored by the mainstream. Survivors by nature, Baby, They Told Us We Would Rise Again, the band's new studio release, brims with lessons learned the hard way set to fiery rock and [...]
(Long Shots, a new feature on Aquarium Drunkard, asks some of our favorite artists to interview one another. Think of it as listening in on a good conversation.) As the album's title suggests Athens, GA's Bloodkin are indeed back - on tour with the Drive-By Truckers - and supporting their seventh release Baby They Told Us [...]
