This time last year I was in total panic mode trying to get everything right for the wife's 30th Birthday . This year we're back to the annual Halloween Party and Erin has more help than she knows what to do with, so I am free to get my rock shows on. So let's talk rock and roll this weekend.... Thursday night we have David Dondero , Whiskey and Co. and Christina Wagner kicking the Halloween weekend off at New World Brewery . David Dondero is probably best known to locals [...]

David Dondero: "Rothko Chapel" David Dondero: "When the Heart Breaks Deep" San Francisco-based (but former of North Carolinian, so I'm told) David Dondero weaves these incredible narrative folk rock songs with the occasional incredible backing band that blasts Americana-rock to its gills. Songs about traveling, about life, about life traveling. The lyrics are as impressive as anything the guitar, the banjo or the harmonica does. Most of his songs concentrate on a place and time and they're all fiery, all compelling, all salt of the earth, [...]
by alyssa coluccio Conor Oberst's brainchild, Jenny Lewis's introduction as a solo artist, and the coolest library you'll ever encounter: just a few reasons why Team Love Records should be your new favorite. Artist: Tilly and the Wall Song: [...]
Let's add David Dondero to the list of great artists that have called San Francisco home under my very nose while I missed it. Don't worry about me, though. I'll catch up. What is there that is not to love about a fella with an album called Live At The Hemlock ? Dondero follows in the great singer-songwriter/folkie/rocke r tradition of dragging his broken heart from joint to joint all over this continent, writing songs about what it feels like. And oh yeah, bonus pigeon points. [...]

David Dondero stopped in Denver this week, introducing the Meadowlark audience to a set comprised mostly of new material. David is currently in Omaha recording his next album, so expect many of these songs to show up on a future release. Having heard three of his albums, I find these new songs to be some of the strongest yet. And the references are great- Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey , Darren Hanlon , and javelina in the Gila , and the Salamanca frog all in one tune?! [...]

What is the Conspiracy of Venus , might you ask? The last chance to find out before the leaves turn will be Wednesday at their "season finale" with Garrett Pierce and Devotionals at The Rickshaw (8pm, $). Director Joyce Todd McBride started the choir in January 2007, which sums to roughly 40-50 lovely female voices to date. Conceptually speaking, McBride describes the Conspiracy of Venus as "a symphony of sound unique to the pre-existing A Capella format, and so contemporary, you're humming it on the way out!" [...]

If you are fan of one or maybe more of these bands (as I guess), have a stop at the daytrotter and get the 4 song sessions of them! Incredible concept, incredible acceptance, incredible songs... Congretulations! ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead (Mar 3, 2008) The 1900s (Feb 11, 2008) 31 Knots (May 9, 2007) A Faulty Chromosome (Apr 12, 2009) A Place to Bury Strangers (Mar 25, 2008) The A-Sides (Jan 9, 2008) A.A. Bondy (May 21, 2008) About (Mar 5, 2007) The Acorn (Feb 22, 2009) Adam Green [...]

Team Love on Conor Oberstin (Bright Eyes) ja Nate Krenkelin vuonna 2003 perustama indie-levymerkki, jolle ovat levyttäneet mm. Bright Eyes, Tilly and the Wall, Jenny Lewis, Gruff Rhys ja The Felice Brothers. Team Love on ilmeisesti onnistunut yrityksessään, sillä yhtiö on edelleen pystyssä, yhtyeet kertovat olevansa tyytyväisiä ja uusia julkaisuja tulee tasaiseen tahtiin. Viiden vuoden jälkeen ilmaisiin latauksiin liittyvää toimintaa [...]

Last year was a good one for Thao Nguyen. She and her band, The Get Down Stay Down, released their first album for Kill Rock Stars. We Brave Bee Stings and All , which was TWSIS's #1 album of 2008 , was met with strong praise. The band spent a good portion of the year on tour. And Thao played last year's Noise Pop festival. This year, she was invited back to Noise Pop as a headliner at the Swedish American Music [...]
