Best Coast's Bobb Bruno & Bethany Cosentino Hello everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Far too many exceptional shows last week including last night's NO CANCER! Benefit show with No Age , Vivian Girls , Best Coast , Graham Forest , Darker My Love and more. I do believe Bethany from Best Coast 's performance as one of their most entertaining yet. [...]

Super Bowl XLIV is almost upon us. So it's only right that we dust off the old classic, The Chicago Bear's "The Super Bowl Shuffle". But everyone's seen that video. There's not an 80s retrospective that doesn't at least mention it. Here's what you might not know: " The Super Bowl Shuffle" was only the beginning. After The Bears' track made it to the 41st place on the Billborad charts, got a Grammy nomination for Best Rhythm & Blues Vocal Performance, and led into them decimating the Patriots at Super Bowl XX, every team wanted a some of [...]
In the crowd of England songs that were released for the 2006 World Cup there was a bit of gold... A diamond in the rough. No it wasn't the Embrace track (obviously), it was a song that was should have got more attention and it baffles me as to why it didn't. The name of the band who created this masterpiece are Dreadzone and you have heard their music being associated with footie elsewhere before. If you've watched Match Of The Day, or Sky Sports or any fitba related show you will have heard their [...]

So the blog is basically shut down. all the links are dead (except these...for now) and the DCMA is making it pretty dang hard for me to share music with you guys despite the FACT that I have the exact same music as every other blog out there like Pretty Much Amazing, Sheena Beaston, Stereogum, Gorilla vs. Bear and so on yet for some bizarre reason they are immune to the shut downs. Whatever. I might resurface in a week or two once I figure out how to proceed without constant harassment from the record companies who I am really [...]

[If you're near a computer, watch Buzz Bands this evening for a live webcast, courtesy of Spaceland Recordings, of the Yeasayer/Warpaint sets from First Fridays at the Natural History Museum.] Tonight: Brooklyn quartet Yeasayer , the electro-soundscapers (soundscapists?) whose suddenly dancey sophomore album "Odd Blood" comes out Tuesday, headlines the sold-out First Fridays event at the Natural History Museum. Warpaint also makes nice in the museum's Hall of Mammals. ... Dave Davies plays the El Rey Theatre, with the rock trio that [...]

photo by Michael Ligon January's gone and my February concert schedule's looks busy but my March schedule looks even busier not even counting this year's Canadian Music Week . So while precious little of the actual CMW(or more accurately, Canadian Musicfest ) schedule has actually been announced yet, Toronto promoter has already announced his NeXT-at-CMW shows running March 11, 12, 13 at The Velvet Underground, The Silver Dollar and The Comfort Zone. Mr. Burke's never been shy about reminding us how he used to run his own mini-festival AGAINST CMW but has [...]
Song of the year / Chanson de l'année Beyonce – "Single Ladies" Lady Gaga – "Poker Face" Maxwell – "Pretty Wings" Kings of Leon – "Use Somebody" Taylor Swift [...]

No real surprises to report. Beyoncé earned a bundle of Grammys. Lady Gaga delivered a rousing - and surprisingly uncontroversial - duet with Elton John . Taylor Swift also cleaned up, though her number with Stevie Nicks sounded a tad off (as did Slash's guitar solo during T-Pain's performance). Best prop goes to Best Comedy Album winner Steven Colbert , who pulled an iPad out of his jacket during his monologue. And kudos to Kings of Leon for admitting they were a tad drunk while accepting the Grammy [...]

Hello hello, it's Friday Friday and man o' man another fun weekend ahead! Lots of craftin' and artsin' and cyclin' and even a little road trippin' to Cincinnatin' for a photoshoot. This time, it's Baby's turn to get in front of the lens (tech speak, sorry) and amazing photographer and model Claudia's turn to shoot! Now, I'll be there, camera(s) in tow, to shoot the shoot (did I just blow yer mind???) as 1) I want [...]

Though it has been a few years, you can still detect the excitement in the voice of Billy Joe Royal when he describes how he feels about the song that proved to be his ticket to stardom, "Down In The Boondocks," and the first time he heard it on the radio back in 1965. "It was wonderful," he said recently, during an interview session from Nashville's famed Music Row. "I was living in Cincinnati, OH, and a friend of mine, Dusty Rhodes said that at 3:15, he was going to play the record, [...]

Fan Fiction, aside from an ingredients panel, is the most marginal of literary genres. Since the 17th century when Cervantes' Don Quixote was sabotaged by amateur scribblers, Fan Fiction throughout the ages has clung to the underbelly of good writing like barnacles on the Starship Enterprise . Last month I was challenged by Music To Spazz By Jingle Producer Nutley Sam Elwitt to partake in a literary joust of the schlubbiest kind: an Adam-12 Fan Fiction Contest. Adam-12 Fan Fiction really does exist and it's serious business [...]

This is it. The best of the best. As determined by me and in alphabetical-by-artist order. This list has been a labor of love and it is an honor to pay tribute to so many fantastic albums. With that said, don't hesitate to lift your leg and leave your own mark in the comments. Or just track down the albums here that you don't know and get down with a good set of headphone. I know these lists are self indulgent and often pointless but they are fun nonetheless. A big thank you to all the TBE readers who [...]

Today's pick is the Long Island,NY band As Tall As Lions. I am sharing a couple of songs, the first one is off of their 2006 self-titled record, and one is a Counting Crows cover they did that I stumbled across. Enjoy. * 'Mariah' MP3 * 'Children In Bloom' MP3

This Bassnectar guy certainly has it going on. He's soon out on a nationwide tour in support of his eighth full-length album, Cozza Frenzy, including a stop at Coachella . We danced like fools during his set at ACL Fest here in Austin last year, so I recommend hitting up one of the tour dates posted on myspace . Hopefully he will be able to fit in another SXSW gig somewhere... Check out the new mixtape via Bassnectar.net : "This episode is 44 minutes and 25 seconds of 10th-generation genre-re-wiring, exploring bass music [...]

I haven't done a fingerbanger in forever here... but I'm coming through today. Its Friday. I've got some good shit today too. Or I should say, good to me. Thats really what we do here. Post things that we find and like. Finding things is the best part. I'm pretty sure, the discovery is if we're listening. Not just to music, but to the way things feel. Like... bang. Truth is, bangers is what I got. Bang. Up, Bustle & Out has been a long time love of mine. Back in the day I was NinjaTune-ed in. This [...]

In his first official mix for 2 years, Bassnectar comes at us from every direction firing proton pack funk into the speakers and not giving a f**k whether he crosses the streams and lets some big marshmallow bass into the arena. Actually marshmallow makes it sound alot fluffier than it is, this is pure filth with influences flying in from Dubstep, Hip-hop, Drum N Bass, Reggae and that Carnival full of Gypsies that rode into town when you were young. There's some original Bassnectar tracks, some re-edits and some friends along too. [...]
