Mule and Phish weren't the only bands performing on Halloween as there was plenty of action all over the country from our favorite bands. We'll have extended takes on most of these shows over the next few days, but for now let's take a look at what went down on October 31st... Umphrey's McGee Day of the Dead IV, Las Tortugas Set I: JaJunk* > 2 × 2 > Q*bert > 2 × 2, Cemetery Walk, Padgett's Profile**, Cemetery Walk (part II), Sweet Sunglasses# [...]
Like New Year's Eve , Halloween is another holiday that a lot of bands choose to celebrate in style. There's just something about mixing the live concert experience with all the fun and choas of Halloween that really brings out the freaks. While most bands typically play into the Halloween vibe in some way, touring bands often approach Halloween as an opportunity to really create a unique live music event. Just as we did with our New Year's Eve concert round-up , we've compiled a list of Halloween concerts that will be going on this weekend (see below [...]

Another week of rock has arrived! On Thursday I think the Plough is where I'll end up to check out Robin Lane and Johnny Angel although Men at Harper's Ferry with members of Le Tigre sounds interesting. On Friday there are way too many choices. Andrew Bird and Calexico at the Pavillion looks awesome (except if it's cold and rainy and then not so awesome). My Own Worst Enemy at the Cantab is a guaranteed good time. Also on Friday there's a chance to experience classic Boston rock at TTs with The Blackjacks, The Gravel Pit and The Outlets. And [...]

On Thursday I'm planning on being at TTs for the Detroit Cobras and Dexter Romweber Duo show. This looks like a great show so I really hope that there are tickets available at the door. If it's soldout, maybe I'll end up at the Plough for the Andrea Gillis Variety Show(could be cool). Friday has a couple of shows that look good. Fiery Furnaces with Hallelujah the Hills and the Bodega Girls at the Middle East are definitely worth a look if you've never seen them before. And if you like Queen, the Lizard is where you want to be, [...]

On Thursday, Au Revoir Simone is at TTs and they're great. I've seen them a couple of times and put on a good show. Or you can get your uke on by heading over to Toad for Melvern Taylor's early set. On Friday, there are a many many cool shows to check out. The Norweigian band I Was King looks tempting, as do the Figgs at the Midway but knowing me, I'll probably end up at Precinct for Muck & the Mires and Andrea Gillis. The incomparable Leonard Cohen is playing 2 nights, Friday and Saturday at the Citi Center [...]

If you lived in Boston in late 70's or early 80's there was band here that was pushing the envelope. I don't know if they were technically punk, avant-garde, garage rock or what, but they were loud and kind of scary. They were the kind of band that elicited graffiti. Having lived in Kenmore Square for many years behind the local rock club called The Rat (I suppose The Rat could be construed as the CBGB's of Boston for the uninitiated) I could see it for myself. Mission of Burma once played The Fensgate Ballroom at Emerson College on February [...]
