A Classic Education A Classic Education are a six-piece band from Bologna, Italy whose epic melodramas seem to attracting much attention. They played Indietracks in 2008 and are frequent visitors to London and further afield. Following a trip to CMJ in New York in October, they're back in the UK this month: they play at the Lexington on 26 November and the Buffalo Bar the following night. They have released two records: an [...]
Okay, okay, I think I may have just had a "musical orgasm" of sorts. NOW, let's start the weekend... Cheers, Tsuru Tsuru And The Bride | Etsy | Society | Facebook | Twitter
We all still remember the troubled brilliance that was The Decemberists' latest effort 'The Hazards Of Love'. It was a huge record that propelled them further than any of their previous work had done before and was so cohesive, they even decided to play the entire thing, song-for-song, on their promotional tours.
Is Colin Meloy vying to become the king of all media? Let's review: There's that little Decemberists band he has going; plus, he and his wife are working on some children's books . And now, it looks like he and his fellow Decemberists are delving into animation for a new film project. Spinner reports that the band has transformed its most recent album, The Hazards of Love , into a full-length, animated movie! While fans got a first look at the film last month in Los Angeles, anyone can now check it [...]
Later With Jools Holland is the best music show on UK TV by a considerable margin.Although this latest series has not perhaps been up to previous standards, the final show of the series tonight (BBC2, 11.45pm) features a fantastic line-up: Big Pink, Low Anthem and The Decemberists. Sure we have to put up with David Gray and RT from the most overrated band of all time, Queen. However, we have

Sebastian Mlynarski When I rounded up all the bits of information around Holly Miranda's solo project back in January , I had no notion that interest in it would eclipse that given to her main band, The Jealous Girlfriends . But her more atmospheric approach is certainly more in line with what people expect/want to hear wafting out of Brooklyn these days and it has apparently tickled more ears than the Girlfriends' heaver, more guitar-driven rock did. So while the Girlfriends take a deserved break, Miranda has been busy - [...]

The summer of 2003 was a hot one in eastern Washington, and my concrete bunker of an apartment contained the heat like no other. Granted, the above image wasn't shot by yours truly until 2004, but it sure seemed hot enough to ignite even the least combustible of items. I wrapped up my undergraduate that December, which was cold as Antarctica, and upon that milestone I moved to Seattle. It was a good year for the Northwest; many of my favorite albums came from Seattle labels like Sub Pop and Barsuk. As for the list, I've [...]
Filed under: News , Video , Movies The Decemberists have revived their most recent album, 'The Hazards of Love,' as an animated full-length video . Titled 'Here Come the Waves: The Hazards of Love Visualized,' the project, which first premiered at a show in Los Angeles last month, will now be available to fans exclusively through iTunes. Colin Meloy and his crew commissioned filmmakers like Guilherme Marcondes, Julia Pott, Peter Sluszka and Santa Maria to create animated pieces for various musical extracts from [...]
The Decemberists are kind of zany. Whether it be guitar throw-downs with Stephen Colbert, writing children's books, or simply using the word "parapets" in a song, the group is always showing up in unexpected ways. The latest is the release of their most recent album, The Hazards of Love , as an animated film. Apparently releasing a bizarre concept album/rock opera and then playing the whole thing start to finish at shows just wasn't enough. Here Come the Waves: The Hazards of Love Visualized debut at a Decemberists show [...]

Elvis Perkins In Dearland w/ A.A. Bondy Mercy Lounge, Nashville, TN Tuesday, November 17, 2009 If you were at the Mercy Lounge Tuesday night, you never would have guessed that Nashville had been experiencing sunshine and 75 degree temperatures just two days earlier. It seemed like everyone in attendance had spent the indian summer weekend digging their winter clothes out of the back of the closet. Every other person was wearing either a sweater, scarf, knit hat, or some combination of the [...]
For the sixth and final episode of Current's collaborative music documentary series, "Embedded," join The Decemberists as they rehearse for their epic folk-rock opera, "Hazards of Love," and teach viewers how to brew their own beer. Current also parties with Passion Pit at their album release party on the Hudson ...
It would seem this generation now has its own version of The Wall , or least Fantasia! as the fantastical latest effort from The Decemberists , The Hazards of Love , now has a full-length visual companion. While this trailer suggests that the film doesn't seem to correspond to the sordid tale being told (something frontman Colin Meloy intimated would be the case with any such project when we talked to him last March), it does play off the vaguely psychedelic and pastoral British folk elements that underlie the music. Plus, it also [...]
Well, this makes sense. P4K is reporting that the Decemberists are transforming their conceptual The Hazards of Love album into a full-length animated video titled, Here Come the Waves: The Hazards of Love Visualized . Thankfully the band did not draw the entire film with their quill and ink, instead they used the services of Guilherme Marcondes, Julia Pott, Peter Sluszka and Santa Maria to animate and "accompany individual sections of music from the album." The entire video will be available for purchase exclusively from iTunes sometime soon. In [...]

Contrast Podcast recently asked music bloggers like myself to submit our favorite 50 songs of the year for their annual "Festive 503 podcast. Our selections were then compiled into a shortlist and now we've been asked to recruit votes to narrow it down. For the curious, I've bolded the 10 songs I personally voted for. I really, really want "Nice Very Nice" by Kurt Vonnegut & Dave Soldier (from their album Ice-9 Ballads ) to make the final list. Not only because it's my favorite song of the year, from my favorite album of the year, [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive There's a good chance that the Heartless Bastards have had a busier year than you. The Cincinnati-based blues-rock band spent almost all of 2009 hitting the road hard behind its third album, the huge-riffing The Mountain,' with giant indie rock names like the Decemberists , the Black Keys , Andrew Bird , Jenny Lewis and Wolfmother . When they weren't touring, they were --surprise! -- still playing music. In February, the Bastards played on [...]
