In Beyonce and Lady Gaga's video for "Telephone", Bey will reportedly rescue Gaga in the continuation of Gaga's "Paparazzi" video. "Telephone" is just the opposite of "Paparazzi", though. In that it's not about getting a man to love you, it's about getting your man to leave you alone so you can dance and get drunk in the club. The concept of [...]

Alternate titles for this article included: Lo-Fi: How Well Does it Match Your Denim Jacket? The Gorilla Vs. Bear Guide To Los Angeles, and Douglas Martin's Skit Plans for the next 52 0 Clock Shadowboxers album. For those of you averse to ink stains, Sunday's LA Times included a feature on Dum Dum Girls, Best Coast, Nite Jewel, and Pearl Harbor. My crack team of Thesaurus-armed Caracals contributed the words that filled up the space between the Macy's ads. This space has been conspicuously absent of coverage of these bands, mainly because [...]

Suffice it to say that I was wrong. I used to think that people should stick to what they do. Actors should stick to acting and singers should stick to singing. Well every once in a while a truly creative individual comes along that is blessed with the ability to channel their creative energy into everything that they do. Maggie Baird is one of these people. Her touching interview is inspiring and befits a person with such a charming demeanor. You are both an actress and a musician, [...]
Proud to be different, Brighton's purveyors of indie-dance-blues Ice Black Birds announce the release of their debut single "Ears To the Ground" along with a string of UK tour dates. Coming from Brighton, you'd expect a rather different sound to emerge from young band Ice Black Birds which features guitarist/lead vocalist Sam Denniston , lead guitarist George Grinling , bassist Harry Bohay-Nowell and drummer Pierre McFarlane . However, this band are looking to set themselves apart from the pack with their [...]
Canada's Library Voices say that you could call their music "Post-Twee-Power-Folk-Nu-Beach -LoFi-Modern-Indie" but want to keep it simple: they just prefer "pop." The Regina, Saskatchewan octet formed in 2008 and have released an EP but well-tuned critical ears have already made note, including SPIN and those smarty-pants at The New Yorker . We like the witty, rather retro-meets-modern substructure that supports the Voices' nimble, gangly jangle and it's a blast to play "pin the tail on the influences" as our collective heads swim with a muddled melange of names from 60's radio fodder, 70's So-Cal harmonied [...]

The single of Lady GaGa's and Beyoncé's latest collaboration 'Telephone' will be released the 15th of March (in the UK) and the official remix sounds nothing like the original with the production from Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins. No, (according to Concrete Loop ), the official remix was produced by State of Emergency, consisting of Donnie Scantz and Jahi Sundance. Quite refreshing to hear something new but at the same time, it's not as good as the original. Sounds a bit off if you ask me, I actually prefers the original over all remixes out there, even if both ones from [...]

Even independent music goes through states of stylized homogeneity. When Animal Collective got red hot last year, we were flooded with bands every other week worshipping at their experimental altar. The same can be said for sub-genres like freak-folk, chill-wave, and the noisy Jesus & Mary Chain gang. In other words, when everyone is trying to be different and that "difference" is being celebrated, a repetition of style is inevitable. Sometimes "different" means music that is eccentric, weird or groundbreaking and that, of course, should be celebrated; but when "different" or "indie" connotes overly quirky and clever skinny-jean donning bands [...]

Mom threw me out 'til I get some pants that fit. Wearing the right jeans at the right time have long been a crucial element to rock 'n roll stardom. It may have been a passage from Clinton Heylin 's excellent oral history of proto-punk, From the Velvets to the Voidoids , that's stuck with me all these years, but I recall cracking up at a comment by David Thomas of Pere Ubu regarding his inability to ever fit into cool jeans, not to mention his parents' complete lack of interest in [...]
Melting Faces in San Fran I just came across this video of White Denim , performing at San Francisco's The Independent. Captured so nicely, feast your eyes on the band tearing through "You Can Tell" into "All Consolation" into "El Hard Attack / DCWYW" into "I Start To Run".

Queen, Justin Timberlake, The Kooks et Toto. C'est les quatre artistes que j'ai un peu [...]
Last Wednesday, one of the best jambands you've never heard of rolled through San Francisco and played a raging, non-stop set to a half-empty room of people left with their jaws dropped and nothing more. That band was White Denim , and they just finished up a large tour in support of their release of Fits late last year. Me and my crew were there and I just found a few videos from the show, so it's time I round it up a bit. All photos by Dan Leech. [...]

Out of the hundreds of concerts I have attended in Seattle, not one of them has been at Neumos . Now I know why. Neumos has to be one of the most trashy dives in all of Seattle. All other venues I have caught shows at are leaps and bounds beyond Neumos. Both Showboxes are stellar, the Tractor Tavern, Crocodile, and even Chop Suey are more inviting venues. Not to mention the bartender served me a Pabst Blue Ribbon tallboy with some kind of dirt or rust on it. Disgusting! Once I was able to [...]

In my not-so-humble, "music means everything" opinion, the most wonderful thing about the world today is the vast array of music that's out there, and the easy access we have to obtain and listen to what we want. Not every band and project is inevitably awesome, but with a little research and exploration, the exact sound you're looking for can be discovered. And that's exactly what happened to me a couple of years ago when I came across White Denim , a slightly psychedelic rock band based out of Austin, Tex. I was blown away [...]
