A Classic Education A Classic Education are a six-piece band from Bologna, Italy whose epic melodramas seem to attracting much attention. They played Indietracks in 2008 and are frequent visitors to London and further afield. Following a trip to CMJ in New York in October, they're back in the UK this month: they play at the Lexington on 26 November and the Buffalo Bar the following night. They have released two records: an [...]
When did this record come out? May ? Jeez Louise, it really takes some time to get around to these things. I meant to pick up Viva Voce's Rose City when it was released, but I never did; and not until after their excellent show at the Seattle Center Mural was I finally compelled to get my grubby little paws on it. I think you'll be glad I did. Or, at least, I'm glad I did. Can't really say what you'll think. . [...]

Our friend Eric charged us to post this song with the words: "Post iT NOW, or die in beauty". And he is damn right. Nice one!

In the Book Notes series, authors create and discuss a music playlist that relates in some way to their recently published book. Blake Butler is the rare young writer who consistently and effectively challenges his readers. Scorch Atlas is a haunting collection of interconnected stories and vignettes, a dystopian work of genius. The book itself is a work of art. The internal pages are individually distressed, and the page edges and cover appear burnt and scarred, and the design complements the book's theme perfectly. Matt [...]

In the Book Notes series, authors create and discuss a music playlist that relates in some way to their recently published book. Ben Shaberman's essay collection The Vegan Monologues is more than a book about not eating animals. Sherman touches on political, social, and environmental issues while recounting his own experiences, always in his humorous yet poignant voice. In his own words, here is Ben Shaberman's Book Notes music playlist for his essay collection, The Vegan Monologues : [...]
As I mentioned earlier this year, it seems that as a result of the recent times, Brooklyn, New York has become the center of the world for indie rock aficionados. Sure, maybe the Dodgers will never move back east, but Brooklyn has definitely developed into something much larger than their former baseball team could ever compare to. Singer/songwriter Tim Williams certainly feels right at home and well within the walls and camaraderie of Brooklyn. While literally clicking alive on the heels of his third full-length album , Careful Love , Williams channels his personal darkest hours of reconstructive [...]

The Gaslight Anthem | "The '59 Sound" | 2008 From its Born to Run opening riff to its down-and-out, working man lyrics (including repeated lines), the title track to The Gaslight Anthem's second outing is the best pure rock song of the Aughts. [Maybe I'm slightly biased. It is, as of the time of this writing, the second-most played song on my last.fm account.] To give you an idea of just how Springsteen-esque this song is (never mind the fact that the band's from Jersey), simply notice that singer/guitarist Brian Fallon begins [...]

Miley Cyrus' tour bus was a part of a four-vehicle caravan which included a bus that crashed, causing her driver to die. The crash occurred in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, just outside of Richmond. It was said that Miley's bus was not involved in the deadly accident, which was reportedly as a result to the wet roads. Officials are investigating whether or not the driver passed away before the crash or as a result of it. One of [...]

Weiter Synthetische Biologie

"For a bunch of good looking people, you sure are boring and I can't hang around with that certainty because it dies with the day. A peculiar assessment, She said. Maybe, I continued, Yet even those that don't like me expect a lot. You think you deserve something, and you're mad, she said again and again. I was mad with the desire to believe in an absolute, and fingering the perils of such belief in my mind all day. Of course I deserved something, a million dollars an ounce and I couldn't give this much heart away. I thought that [...]
