Aw Not Again? Even without a remix competition, there are some tracks that are remade over and over and over and over again. How many 'A Milli,' 'Hustlin',' 'Poker Face'/s need to be made before we can move on? Why are we so drawn to selling and buying the same product over and over again? Is it simply because, 'It works?' Halloween was just last month, marking the 6th installment of SAW, so the music industry isn't the only form of entertainment that is being cursed with the business safety [...]
[stream] Tegan and Sara: "Hell" One of the downfalls of being a super successful blogger like myself is that we're always looking forward to what's new and what's next. Most of us have already written off 2009, already formulating our best-of lists and beginning to sample albums from next year's slate. But the reality is, it's only October. There are three good months left in the year, which means there are still albums left on the calendar that have the potential to surprise us [...]

Having hosted the experimental new music show on the BBC's Radio 1 for over ten years, Mary Anne Hobbs knows her stuff. She wants to know what else is out there, and she wants to share it with you. She is arguably the person who turned the world on to dubstep, in the early hours of January 10th 2006 on a very special Breezeblock entitled Dubstep Warz. Since then, she put together two eclectic compilations for Planet Mu ( Warrior Dubz in 2006 and Evangeline in 2008) and is about to release a third called Wild [...]

One of the downfalls of any festival is the fact that you generally don't watch full sets from any of the bands. Maybe if you really love them you choose to miss another band in favor of that set but it's rare and can be costly especially if you're trying to see everything. Circulatory System got a little shafted by this as I was darting around trying to do too much, but seeing two songs from the band was definitely an enjoyable experience and made me want to see a lot more hopefully in the near future. For now we [...]

T HIS is the hardest POPPING Rock album I have heard in years. It is balls-out rock but alongside the bite and grit are some of the most pile-driving melodies in a rock structure this side of - well, I can not think of a band they remind me of in this context. But move this one to the head of my favorites of 2008 - THAT I am sure of. Now, this one is not for many of you, more than likely. DO humor me and go listen to the songs below, though. Really. [...]

beat radio - sleepwalking (the kick drum sound in this is a field recording of fireworks exploding, check out the artists blog for free mp3's/lyrics) the temper trap - soldier on (debut album 'conditions' was released in june...it doesn't have a bad track) a grave with no name - sofia (self-titled debut 7" EP released in july, supported the big pink on tour this year) [...]

"Pray to the city, put faith in me, rebound, boxed out, made space for me." Oh snap, the movement is back on. Kidz In The Hall have officially released "Flickin'" today on iTunes. Also known as "The George Daniels" song, "Flickin'" is the first single from Naledge and Double-O's 3rd LP, The Land of Make Believe. Naledge described the new album via statement and called the album, "the moment we have worked for has come to a crossroad. We strive for success in this music industry, but we have never taken time to look ourselves [...]

Well even though summer dragged its feet in getting here this year, we're undisputedly in the midst of that warmest of seasons, which means one thing for music fans: Festivals. Festivals represent almost everything that is good about live music – a wide variety of genres, open air concerts, congregations of rabid fans, exposure to unheard acts, good value for your dollar, and the chance to potentially make out with a stranger even though you haven't showered in days. Sure, festivals have their downfalls – crowds, expensive foods, hot sun, STDs – but the pros outweigh the cons [...]
Download audio file (portico_quartet.mp3) I've come across a band that has me questioning the already loose definition of jazz I thought I knew. Perhaps it's just how modern jazz is evolving, or maybe it's the blatantly different atmosphere painted by the band's instrumentation. Whatever it is, Portico Quartet is without a doubt very unique. The band consists of drums, a saxophone, an upright bass, and a hang . What's that? Never heard of an instrument called a hang? Yeah, me neither until I found Portico Quartet. It was apparently first developed in 2003 by a [...]
by alyssa coluccio We're going international this week to check out a label that revolutionized the British music scene at a time when post-punk was in its glory and the musician was just as eager as the music fan was to experiment with a different kind of sound. I hope you kids are ready for a history lesson, because the story of 4AD is pretty extensive. For your sake and sanity, I'll try to break this down as easily as possible, starting with the most important part: Ivo Watts- Russell. [...]

Seeing as some folk complained that they didn't know when the debut was last week (spoof), I will start off with a plug. If anyone is in Dublin tomorrow night (tonight? Thursday, the 2nd) round 2 of stand-up in Ireland is going ahead in Temple Bar, the more hecklers the merrier! I can't believe I've just advertised on the blog, I have well and truly sold out. How much did I get paid for that? Back to the blogaruu... Have you ever been introduced to someone, who you already kind of know, but was never properly introduced to [...]
I don't particularly have a lot to say about Michael Jackson. I was a pretty big fan of his in the 80s (who wasn't?) and it's safe to say that he played a pretty big part in my life for a long time. I wasn't that big into Thriller when it came out, I was very young and the video scared me, but I thought Bad was the shit . Smooth Criminal is one of my favorite Jackson songs, and the video remains one of the best ever made. His death [...]

You know that creepy ex-boyfriend that won't leave you alone no matter what and keeps making grander and grander gestures to win back your approval that was never really there in the first place? Well, the Academy Awards is that ex-boyfriend! After many attempts over the past decade to increase viewership, including the Academy's addition of the controversial "Pretty Good Actress Who--We're Not Gonna Lie This Time--Mostly Just Won Because of Studio Politics and Not Actual Talent" award, the good ol' Oscars are trying once again to win back the hearts of the two dozen people in America who actually [...]

This post was made to promote science 2 innercity, 'at-risk' students. Photo via hellooks I am a bro who is afraid of germs. Typically, germs are considered to be tiny organisms, or living things, that can cause disease. I am very afraid of dying, and usually wear swine flu masks in public, as well as gloves that protect my hands. However, I am also afraid of nontraditional germs. I am afraid of germs that are 'poisonous ideas.' I [...]
I've long sat at lectures, praying that the speaker would just shoot himself. I'm sure some guy was doing the same thing here and convinced himself he had superpowers when it actually happened. This cop makes accidental discharge of a firearm look hilarious while giving a lecture on the downfalls of being careless with a firearm. Kudos to John Q. Law for continuing the speech even as copious amounts of blood and dignity leaked from somewhere near his left nut. That's dedication, holmes. That, and his body going into shock. But mostly dedication. [...]

Two decades since he first came on the scene as a Leader of The New School, Busta Rhymes has now become one of the elder statesmen of Hip-Hop. He got here by innovating his style, morphing to not only adjust with the times and climate but to occasionally even be a step ahead. With his eighth album, and a title like Back On My Bullshit , one would not be wrong to expect similar if not more from the Brooklyn vet. Glimmers of gusto are sparked by tracks with first class assistance like [...]
( Duffy note: Kirk Kline's coverage of both days coming shortly. ) I made my own assignment for Rock on the Range - pretend like this is a Motley Crue concert with a few well-known opening acts ( Avenged Sevenfold and The Used ). While the rest of the black t-shirt nation spent 2 days soaking in the sounds of dozens of indistinguishable hard rock bands, I rolled up into the Crew Stadium parking lot (15 friggin bucks for parking) at 6:30 p.m. on day two of the festival, just 2.5 hours [...]

New Outasight music..The kid speaks on the ills of being a new artist and the downfalls of trying to get a major label deal...nice record..Somebody needs to work on that chorus though.. Outasight - Whatever They Want
