Amor y Guerra is a collection of Police & Thieves' three EP releases up to this point along with a few previously unreleased songs. The DC band features ex-members of Worn Thin and plays straightforward hardcore that's a little melodic without really being melodic at all. Not that there is anything wrong with that, right? I mean, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this while cleaning out my garage. So yeah, there's really no "singing" at all but the vocals aren't screamed either. They've also got some rock-and-roll undertones that are evident in the music [...]

Recommended Show: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2009 WIZARDRY @ UNION POOL 484 Union Ave Brooklyn, NY 11211 FREE, 9PM There are a whole bunch of parties tonight where the location is secret (thanks, VICE), but there are some shows that are just plain weird. For instance, Deer Tick will be performing as The Sex Pistols at Brooklyn Bowl. But there's one band for whom dressing up is an everyday occurrence. Halloween is simply another day for the band Wizardry , and that may just be the reason I recommend seeing them on a night like tonight. [...]

photos by Ryan Muir "The band on everyone's lips [at Pop Montreal ] was local solo artist tUnE-YaRdS , a.k.a. Merill Garbus, whose looped ukulele electronica captured many people's attention at the festival. (Her track "Sunlight" was also the de facto Plateau coffee shop jam.) Though attendees planned to give it up for Faust , and sang the praises of local heroes like The Luyas , you couldn't escape the giddy [...]

How cool must it be to be Joakim? The French producer/bandleader's kitchen sink approach to music has made his albums increasingly difficult to classify, leaving his fans braced for whatever curve he might happen to throw at them next. A curve such as this mix, perhaps? No need to worry, the requisite dirty disco abounds (see Red Dragon Band's excellent Italo jam "Let Me Be Your Radio" or Joakim's own "Watermellon Bubblicious"). But mixing a Beatles outtake with Chicago Juke king DJ Deeon? The sludge fuzz double header of The Goslings and Acid Mothers Temple? [...]

The new album from French producer Joakim entitled 'Milky Ways' is out September 15th on !K7 and his kitchen sink approach to music that has made his albums difficult to classify is pretty much evident in this latest mix that includes an outtake from The Beatles mixed with some juke by DJ Deeon and Red Dragon Band's Italo jam 'Let Me Be Your Radio' alongside a track by The Rolling Stones. Get it after the jump 1. O.M.D. - Electricity (Micronauts remix) 2. E.A.R. - Submarine 3. Dragons of [...]

This past weekend, the Northside Festival descended upon Brooklyn, NY, providing a full weekend of music showcases. As one should expect, Consequence of Sound was on site to take in the sites and sounds. First up, is a report from our own Carlos Destres... Thursday, June 11: Day One What felt like a world away from Manhattan began with a little swarm of clouds hanging in the sky, intermittently drizzling some rain on the sidewalks of Williamsburg. Nevertheless, across two towns, revelers descended upon the north side of [...]
