Seattle rockers Pearl Jam make their Austin City Limits debut this weekend on your local PBS channel. Eddie Vedder and his mates focus on material from the recently released Backspacer and add a few Pearl Jam classics for good measure during this performance taped on October 13. Friday , November 20 [all times Eastern] David Letterman : Lyle Lovett [CBS 11:35PM] Jimmy Kimmel : Death Cab For Cutie [ABC Midnight] Craig Ferguson [...]
Pearl Jam have repurposed their performance of "Just Breathe," a somber ballad from Backspacer , on Austin City Limits as the official video for the track. Good move, since this is full of fist-pumping fans, earnest Eddie Vedder faces and a cellist who looks like he is listening to other music on his iPod. I totally feel you, buddy. Backspacer is out now.

Before I dive into my impressions on Tuesday's killer Medeski, Martin & Wood show, I thought it might be appropriate to talk about the spirit embodied by the band. It goes without saying that the show was amazing. (They're one of the four or five tightest live acts in the world, irrespective of genre; you know they're going to be good. ) I'll hit some of the things that struck me singularly at the tail end. MMW are so captivating live, however, that they turn your brain to bigger things, broader ideas, spacier conclusions. Here's the deal: [...]
Via Prefix Mag , Jane's Addiction's Perry Farrell joined Eddie Vedder and crew for a duet of sorts at Austin City Limits to perform Mountain Song. Much like The Police's Stuart Copeland, guy's still pretty wired... and wiry. Jane's Addiction: Mountain Song.mp3
This is a time-lapse of Pearl Jam performing on "Austin City Limits" concert series taping on Oct. 3. The episode premieres Saturday, Nov. 21. This time-lapse was created from photographs taken every 6 seconds from 9:09AM - 11:29PM. More than 10,000 images were taken to create the video. If you notice Eddie Vedder performing on stage before they seem to begin the actual show, that is during rehearsal. They rehearsed for about an hour. Yes, that is Ben Harper with him. Check your local listings for "Austin City Limits" on PBS. [...]

Again, apologies for the late post. The ship will be righted once more after this weekend. Artist: Eddie Vedder Album: Into The Wild: Music For The Motion Picture Release Date: September 18, 2007 Honestly, I'm probably the wrong person to talk about this album, since I never saw the movie, and thus I have little or no context for how the music fits into the movie. But let's be real here. It's solo Eddie Vedder, and does anyone ever need a [...]

Photo: Davey Wilson Download podcast: Courtney Smith's review of Champagne in Seashells Download MP3: Liam Finn "Plane Crash" Liam Finn is a musical legacy. His is the son of Neil Finn, who is famous in his own right, but more so for bands Crowded House and Split Enz. The latter band was started by his brother Tim Finn, Liam's uncle, who also joined in to record and tour with Crowded House for one of their later albums, Woodface . [...]
Liam Finn live @ Dante's Portland, Oregon New Zealand's Liam Finn and Eliza Jane performed last month here in Portland. We weren't sure exactly what to expect from this musical duo. We had read a few reviews on Liam's debt album, I'll Be Lightning , as well as listened to a few of his new tracks off his latest EP, Champagne in Seashells, and were excited to see him perform live. Some background on Liam: He was born in Melbourne, Australia but calls New Zealand his home as [...]

"Masters of War" is the truth. Bob Dylan's 1963 screed against Johnson's military-industrial complex closes with (I'd argue) the most powerful eight lines in popular music: "And I hope that you die/and your death will come soon/and I'll follow your casket/by the pale afternoon/and I'll watch while you're lowered/down to your deathbed/and I'll stand over your grave/'till I'm sure that you're dead." It's an obvious anti-war song and one of our best. (long aside: Although the man himself has said that it's not an anti-war song per se, but a pacifistic statement against war, I think that what [...]

Singles the 1992 Cameron Crowe movie about...well...singles! As usual all Cameron Crowe movies are heavily focused around the music aspect. I'm sure it is only a matter of time before other Crowe films will be talked about here. Singles was a generation defining movie focusing on the Gen X crowd and the absence of goals or the drive to achieve mas amounts of wealth and possessions but rather the realization that life is hard and relationships don't come easy. The soundtrack is a perfect snapshot into a style of music that really changed a great deal of the way people [...]

For this bootleg Thursday I bring you "The Birdman Sessions". In the spring of 2000 while in Miami at the studio of Sean "Birdman" Gould. As the story goes, Gould bumped into Eddie at a bar on South Beach and offered an open invitation to record. Eddie Vedder spent a drunken night in the studio with a few random musicians recording off-the-wall covers. The session was dubbed "The Birdman Sessions", and copies of the recordings were made for all of the participants. Copies of these tapes eventually leaked out amongst the Pearl Jam trading elite, and it stayed [...]

Partying and ridiculously awesome music (and a LOT of alcohol) can make Halloween a tolerable experience, in an atmosphere dominated by lame costumes and pathetic pranks. This weekend, some lucky concert goers were met with a few surprise appearances by their favorite bands in some peculiar formats. At The Ryman, my favorite bluegrass ensemble played the them song of the cult classic ¡Three Amigos! , with the necessary props to go with it too - dressed up in mariachis like the movie's protagonists (Chevy Chase Steve Martin and Martin Short). Although the moment [...]

http://www.philly.com/philly/n ews/local/68146932.html Never being mistaken for the World's Most Enthusiastic Concertgoer, I'm naturally skeptical over the feelings that fans and musicians have been known to express when a landmark concert venue is being closed down - and even knocked down. "I don't want to say goodbye to this place. I don't even want to think about it yet. I just want to keep . . . rocking." - Eddie Vedder, kicking off the last concert ever at the Spectrum [...]

Kurt [...]
