I know this is a bit later than usual, but Southern California doesn't really experience fall until around November. In any case, better late than never I suppose. Fall's Hope is a mix of heartbreaking songs that I think capture the season rather beautifully. There are some new artists on here, along with some blog favorites, and I hope you enjoy the hell out of every last song. If you do, please consider supporting the artist by buying their album or at least the song! [...]
by marissa bea Another nifty collection of More Music , where we highlight some newly released material plus a few other songs that we may have bypassed upon first listen. We've got a wide array today bouncing from Beastie Boys mash ups to some stellar female vocalists, but let's kick it off with the song of the week. Bella Union shared the first single off the upcoming Beach House album titled Teen Dream . The track is titled "Norway" and serves as an eerie [...]

[photo courtesy of Aaron Bornstein ] Johnny reports: "Being passingly familiar with Clem Snide when I showed up at the Mercury Lounge on this chilly Tuesday night, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. Suffice to say, the show turned out to be quite the treat. In addition to the amazing music and cleverly funny lyrics, frontman Eef Barzelay's sense of humor and interplay with the audience made for a wonderful experience. Bolstered by Ben Martin on drums and Brendan Fitzpatrick on bass, the music [...]
Clem Snide – Hungry Bird. Download "Me No" (mp3). This album was originally recorded in 2006. As the story goes, the band broke up after writing and recording it. But Eef Barzelay, after releasing two solo albums, has re-formed the band and finally allowed this hidden gem to be unleashed. Barzelay's voice has a tonal quality reminiscent of John Darnielle but the music is full of lush and beautiful arrangements. The songs are fairly candid, but with a hint of convolution. Thank God the album was finally released from the shelf! M. Ward – Hold Time. Download "Never Had Nobody [...]

My first impression of Tune-yards was that she was a strange woman and I couldn't quite get into her music but I tended to myself back to her myspace page giving it another try. I've really grown to her charm, it's a little bit odd and strange but it's cute and as much as it seems like it's experimental it feels like enhanced pop. Anyway tUnE-yArDs is a bit off-centre but weirdos tend to have some sort of magnetic force luring you and making it hard not to like Merril Garbus. It's not a [...]

Words and Artwork by Dan McGrath (aka Knatterjak ) Well, its that time of year again. The wonderful summer weather is quickly becoming a thing of the past, everyday I find myself stuck behind a school bus in an Irish Catholic neighborhood, and another hope crushing, tear inducing, life raping season of football is right around the corner (I am a Buffalo Bills fan). But all is well… because nothing can take away the 2 most important things this world has to offer: Great Music and Hot Girls. I dedicate this mix [...]

There are some experiences that put you firmly in "before it happened" and "after it happened" territory. Experiences that define how you look at the world. And they always seem to be experiences that you never saw coming. That was the five-month break I took from You, Me & Everyone. I'm a prizefighter, or didn't I tell you? (Part 1) It was the end of May and I was standing in a parking lot with my hands shoved halfway into tight jean [...]
Recently named one of Spin Magazine's "8 Undiscovered Bands Worth a Listen," Golden Bloom announces New England tour dates in August in support of the August 18th release of Fan the Flames: a collection of bright energetic melodies shadowing the questions pervading society. Having shared the stage with Eef Barzelay of Clem Snide, Pela and [...]

Some people sing and it's jaw-droppingly beautiful. Some sing and you think you've heard an angel. Some sing and it's so powerful, you're blown away. And some sing, and sing, and sing, and you just don't want them to ever stop because you know they don't want to/can't stop. Paul Hansen is that last kind of guy. His voice is beautiful. And he can't stop. He won't stop. You don't want him to stop. Ever. His band, The Grownup Noise , is not going to let him either, don't worry. He sings effortlessly. I walked [...]

1. Knives and Forks. Apparently sales of knives are half those of forks in the UK at the moment. This has been attributed to the rise in ready meals, which come chopped into nice easy little bits, presumably because they think you've got flippers for fucking hands and can't cut up your own food. Either that or they have no confidence in your ability to use utensils properly and fear lawsuits from people who accidentally stab themselves in the back of their hand with a fucking fork whilst trying to eat their dinner. But [...]

Wow! I went on a bit of a bogging spree today. What can I say, when one is stuck in a cubicle doing mundane work for 8hrs a day, working for THE MAN...he has to keep himself sane. And my way of doing so is by blurbing a few sentences at a time about the music that I love. And the rest of the week looks pretty grim as far as killing time goes, so I thought I better get the music sharing out of my system tonight. I just took my beloved Boston terrier on [...]
After a rash of solo albums, film scores, and an infamous incident doing the theme to a noted TV show, Clem Snide frontman Eef Barzelay is back, his band in tow, and unafraid to face his future.

Hungry Bird Catches The Worm. It s been four years since the last Clem Snide album, which in music-dom is about a century. I ve missed them. Eef Barzelay is the heart and soul of Clem Snide, whose name derives from the re-occurring character in sever ...
...and I post a bit more frequently there . I hope to get back to being a regular blogger when this semester is over and my personal life is a bit less crazy. Quick Update: I'm seriously obsessed with The Kills and Frightened Rabbit (yes, Midnight Boom and The Midnight Organ Fight aren't exactly recent releases, but I don't care) and I've been getting some pretty nifty submissions, and I can't wait to listen and share! For now, a sample of music I'm enjoying [...]

Paul Shambroom - Missile, First Baptist Church [Covington, OH] (2008) More Great Songs of 2008 continue through the weekend... including a cultural cornerstone covered by the Rock-afire Explosion , a breath of fresh air from a young Nashville country singer, a song I heard everywhere I went in 2008, the new sounds of a classic indie favourite, an experimental highlight from last year's Forward Music [...]
Spurred by an article I read in the WSJ this morning about the movement to ban Comic Sans (and other "fonts of ill will"), I've been thinking about typefaces today. One of the hardest things about this new site was the damn typeface. Are you aware , dear reader, of the boggling array of choices one has when selecting the visual representation of their words? And that everyone's computers may see it differently anyway? Talking with the guys who laid out my new site often boggles my mind. They send me links to [...]
