I love seeing people using their talents for a good cause. Quest MCODY hit me up with this , and I'll just post the information here: Quest for a Cure partners with Michigan Music Community to Dig Deep For Ben's Fight Detroit, MI—December 19, 2009—On April 23, 2009 Benjamin Martin, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma—a cancerous brain tumor. He is eight years old. Since being diagnosed Ben has undergone several brain surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation. He was doing well for a short time, but [...]

So with December and the new year fast approaching (yes, it's now November, how the fuck did that happen?) We at WANARB, like many of you, have been looking back at the last ten years and coming to the realisation that a lot can, and has happened to the musical landscape in ten years. So with that, comes a post on an artist that many of you may have forgotten about, seeing as he's only ever released one album, and that was way back in 2005. First though, it's our great pleasure to announce that we're planning big [...]

Remember back when I said Hugh Laurie could have the Emmy locked up with the first episode? Retraction... of course, I had know idea that Jon Hamm would have such a plum like this to submit as his Emmy reel. Like last week, the writers (Matthew Weiner with Marti Noxon & Cathryn Humphris) did a great job of framing the episode around the climax of Betty confronting Don, and the theme was a similar one. If last week was how folks see things, this week is the shattering of illusions, romantic or otherwise. If Betty's impression of Don [...]

If Emmy The Great's fall of '08 gem "We Almost Had A Baby" had been delivered by some R&B diva-to-be, the '50's-flavored ball of melodic sugar in which she narrates a twisted revenge fantasy of getting pregnant by some heart-crushing ex simply so she "could have something above (him)" would have been answered back via numerous rapper-laced remixes by now, with many emcees excitedly competing to see who could drop the cruelest rhymes about how she's nothing but a loony groupie chick. Alas it wasn't, so the only response Emmy's awarded arrives from this year-later [...]
Rod Stewart to release SoulBook on November 9, 2009 on RCA Records Comments Rod Stewart: "This is the album I've waited my whole lifetime to record. These are the songs that I've danced to, made love to, cried to and yes, even fell on the floor to as a young man in the infancy of my career. These songs and singers were the oxygen that fuelled my passion to sing. When I was a skinny, cocky, all-mouth and trousers teenager living in North London without two pennies to rub [...]

Covers albums are always a tricky proposition. Even with artists I like, I find that covers come off as one of two things – either they hew too close to the original and lack any definitive point on their own, or else they play much too fast and loose in their interpretation of a classic song. In either case, they're often treated as a bit disposable, merely quickly recorded, poorly thought out b-sides or cash grabs. It seems like a lose-lose proposition. Do you want to be the artist who ruins a classic or the one who makes a completely [...]
It's kind of amazing to think that before this week Fanfarlo 's only other New York show was at last year's CMJ, at LES club Fat Baby which holds about 50 people and was not full when they played. Less than a year later, with absolutely zero coverage from Pitchfork (I mean nothing, do a search) the London band sells out Bowery Ballroom and brings a big crowd to Bell House (deep in Brooklyn) the next night. A big part of this is having a stellar album, Resevoir , which the band [...]
Ok Mr. Laurie, here's your Emmy. The two-hour season premiere for House was a refreshing step outside of what was getting to be a stale template for the series. Save for a brief call to Wilson, this was a lot of heavy lifting from Hugh Laurie as House. Andre Braugher was great as Dr. Nolan (why isn't this man on television more?) and Franka Potente slummed in the role of token love interest Lydia. A lot more music than other House episodes, and none of the usual sentimental adult alternative wallpaper they [...]

M emo to self: If and when I decide to go out on another date... Or maybe it's time for me to quit while I'm behind. Last week, I was stood up by two guys and blown off by four others. I've had my share of dating slumps, but 0 for 6 is pretty dismal, even for me. I should be kind of bummed out, but I've been too busy laughing. Truly, it's comical. Like my own real-life episode of The New Adventures Of Old Christine . What would Julia Louis-Dreyfus do? [...]

It's been a while since a really solid concept album has been around. Sure a lot of bands use running themes throughout albums today, but you rarely see a full story told in an album. But if there is anyone who would do that it would be The Decemberists . Hazards of love, the fifth album from the iconic indie group, focuses around a story of the forbidden love between and woman and shape shifter, along with the two villains trying to stop them; the Queen of the Forest and the Rake, a child murder and [...]

Time for another playlist and for my favorite show on TV. The Office is going on strong and really worked their storylines well without getting too ridiculous. I've become a huge Michael Scott fan as the seasons grow on, he isn't the total douche and not necessarily a complete idiot. I've had a few complaints from friends who don't like the show as much as previous seasons. The truth of the matter is that I think I enjoy the show more when I can watch it uninterrupted (on DVD) and over again. The Office [...]

As we begin to embark upon the fall television season, which has me excited for tonight's premiere of the 5th year of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia , I wanted to write a quick review of what was easily the best summer season of television series in a long time, maybe ever. There were a half dozen or so shows that I made appointment viewing in the past couple months, and with True Blood 's wacky and somewhat disappointing finale Sunday, only Entourage remains as a summer series that is continuing into fall. But Ari and [...]

I'm a huge Big Brother fan and while I do call it a guilty pleasure, the truth of the matter is that it's not another regular TV show. The show for me has more to do with the fact that there are 24/7 live feeds making it the most authetic or "real" reality show in television. Anyway, as with every summer I've had a good time and it's nice to hear that the show is putting on record ratings. The show probably will keep going strong for a lot more seasons. As for tonight with the [...]
