George Lang and NewsOK.tv have unveiled another episode of the music performance and interview series, "Static" . This week's guest is The Non . The Non talks about experimenting with their sound and how the downtown music project Resound came about. The Non is currently prepping their soon-to-be-released album. Meanwhile, you can still buy their debut album, Paper City , at iTunes or Lala . Upcoming [...]
Last night I caught the Brooklyn stop of the Evangelicals/Holiday Shores tour, which continues for five more days. Rarely have I seen two acts so perfectly suited to perform together: Both reference 1960s pop and garage rock while putting their different spins on it--and without sounding like simple regurgitation, the way a lot of "retro" bands do no matter what era they're copying. The first band I saw at Union Hall was Tallahassee, Florida's Holiday Shores. When you can say that a group's synth sounds evoke the classic Moog so perfectly, there isn't much more praise to [...]

The fantastic Evangelicals / Holiday Shores double-bill rolled into Brooklyn Wednesday night representing both sides of the same skewed-pop coin. Heads, we've got Holiday Shores, a Tallahassee-repping quartet (and recent Band of the Week ) specializing in urgent sun-dappled pop with just a hint of something sinister lurking beneath. Tails, it's Evangelicals, the Norman-based psych-pop outfit most poised to take the mantle of resident OK weirdness from Wayne Coyne and company, an exercise in indulging the dark side of pop melodies with traces of sunbeams cracking the clouds. Sunny with a [...]

So here we are at the weekend before the holiday season officially begins and everyone's schedule gets really busy, so get your music fixes in now. On Thursday night you can check out the final night of the Jenny Dee & The Deelinquints residency at the Lizard. It's also the first night of the International Pop Overthrow 4 night stint at Church. Night 1 of the IPO has The Buckners, The Doom Buggies and more. There are also 2 great free shows on Thursday, Lars Vegas is at the Alchemist and Sally O'Brien's has an impressive lineup. On Friday Thalia [...]

I'm going to do something different here. Have you ever had the experience of going to a show, only to find out that the band you were there to see wasn't the headliner? If you go to shows a lot, it happens, especially when each band on the bill is at similar places in their careers. Well that's exactly what happened the other night at D.C.'s ever so tiny Red and Black. While the Evangelicals were set to be the nights closer, Holiday Shores were the reason I was there. It wasn't anything personal, just happenstance that they [...]

Recommended Show: WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2009 JAVELIN & JUICEBOXXX @ MONSTER ISLAND 128 River Street Brooklyn, NY 11211 $7, 8PM When I recommended Juiceboxxx 's show yesterday at Cake Shop, I hadn't realized he was also playing again tonight. However, this one proves to be even better because also on the bill is Javelin, a band we caught early on during CMJ and also at Northside Festival . Both acts are highly recommended. Golem @ Cake Shop Air Waves @ Brooklyn Bowl Evangelicals @ Union Hall Appomattox & [...]

Friday the 13th was made a little less spooky by the Oklahoma gentlemen Evangelicals bringing their touring selves to Glassworks . Along with the OK Evangelicals, who are way more than just OK, were Holiday Shores and Idiot Glee . Though, I'm blaming everything about the evening on Friday the 13th. It seemed that the only people not afraid of going out of the house to shows on Friday the 13th are those darned music bloggers. Don't be afraid, non music bloggers of Louisville, we few at this amazing show (very few [too few]) [...]
Welcome to the new, not-really-improved BabyStew This Week In Chicago listing. What's new about it, you ask? Absolutely nothing, except that it now covers the week from Monday through Sunday rather than Sunday through Saturday. It always seemed weird to me not to be listing Sunday shows until the morning of – when not many people are reading blogs – for the sole purpose of sticking with the conventional definition of "week" ( i.e. , Sun-Sat). But convention be damned. So here's what's going on in Chicago this "week". [...]

I Guess I'm Floating and Hot Brown Mess are bringing to town a fantastic show with the Evangelicals and the Holiday Shores . The Evangelicals are a highly touted band from Norman, Oklahoma (home of The Flaming Lips) and they have been making major waves since their debut album, So Gone in 2006. I had a chance to talk with front-man Josh Jones today and, even after the greater success of their 2008 sophomore album, The Evening [...]
Oklahoma's Evangelicals had one of our favorite LPs last year in 'The Evening Descends,' so with that we asked front man Josh Jones to DJ our Friday Ten this week. The bar was set pretty high last week with Nicole Atkins' DJ turn, but Josh has come through with flying colors. Rather inspired and diverse colors, I might add: "On our way to Kansas City from Denver earlier this evening, and while dj'ing from the passenger seat, I momentarily fell asleep and dreamt that it was me [...]

So many great choices for Thursday. You could start at Toad for the early part of the night and see uke master Melvern Taylor. Afterwards there are many venues that have great line-ups. Gordon Gano, yup the guy from the Violent Femmes, and his his new band is at the Middle East with Sidewalk Driver and Mascara. Also on Thursday there's the Lovewhip cd release at Church or go to TTs for John Powhida International Airport, Logan 5 and the Runners, Weisstronauts and Mercy James (great local line-up!). On Friday, I'll Be at Precinct to see My Own Worst Enemy, [...]

Holiday Shores are one of the most enjoyable new acts I've come across this fall. Not only is their album Columbus'd The Whim one you can't help but grin and groove to while its playing but they're also a lot of fun live. They come from the beaches of Florida and their laid back attitude is undeniable in their music and in their general outlook... TWIAPC: You're sound is very much tied to your Florida/beach roots but did you always [...]
Our friend JB over at Empty Reviews just posted a review of the Holiday Shores show at Hi-Dive on Monday. Makes me sad I missed it but having never heard of this band before is even more upsetting. Now I must look for their album Columbus'd The Whim. Here's an excerpt of the Empty Review: "Holiday Shores is a group of young Floridians. Their set was sandwiched between Candy Claws and Evangelicals, but I was only there to listen to Holiday Shores' set and get a few PBRs from the friendly [...]
![[MP3] Idiot Glee: "All Packed Up" (IGIF Premiere)](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2114805_lg.jpg)
Coming across new music you've never heard before is always a fun experience, and an even better one when said music is created in your city of residence. Idiot Glee is the solo work of fellow Lexingtonian James Friley, a classically trained pianist who also plays in Kentucky rock outfit Bedtime . Friley's solo work is new and virtually non-existent , yet what it lacks in attention it makes up for with promising young sound. Whereas Bedtime's songs are more rock tinged and raw around the edges, Idiot [...]

Hot Brown Mess , a new music promotions collective I am a part of, and I Guess I'm Floating are pleased to present Midwestern psychedelic pop purveyors Evangelicals with freewheeling sun-washed garage psych collective Holiday Shores and regional Brian Wilson incarnation Idiot Glee this Friday at Glassworks in Louisville. The show is short notice, sure, but it's gonna rule. I has tickets to give you... Alright, so the contest. I've been obsessed with Scott Hansen's design work on ISO50 . That's what inspired the design of this show flier. [...]

A really great show has been thrown together just south of the Cincinnati area down in Louisville this weekend and we want you to go! The show headliner is Dead Oceans artists Evangelicals , who have released a couple of excellent albums and are also amazing live. The concert is this weekend at Glassworks and we have a pair of tickets to give away. Just send an email to enscontests at gmail dot com with "Evangelicals" in the subject line. I will pick a winner on Thursday, [...]
