At the very least, the SF Winter Music Festival (January 29th through February 4th) is a primer to the impending festivities of Noise Pop 2010 . From a broader perspective, however, the Winter Music Fest is a well-rounded and admirable tribute to our local music scene, in its own right. The festival, presented by SF Indie Fest and Talking House Records , gathers a myriad of excellent Bay Area bands and showcases them over the course of seven days and eleven shows. The Winter Music Festival is a new development, set up [...]

You may remember that a while ago I blogged about Mustard Pimp compiling an astonishing 12 hour mix - well the sneaky French duo have now topped that with an epic 24 hour compilation mix made up of nearly every genre going! It's all in the honour of the new series of 24 which is about to start on Sky. I really didn't follow the last series, I tried but it's hard work. Seriously, how many times does Jack need to save the world? Jean Claude Van Damme wouldn't have had these issues, he'd simply kick [...]

Our crazy friends from France have done it again. This time they outdone anything we could ever think of. Mustard Pimp goes in the footstep of the popular tv-show 24 and produces a 24 h mixtape. It is crazy, but in a good way. The best thing is that you can enjoy them in the same way that you enjoy 24, hour for hour. ![[DECADEnce] The Top 100 Albums of the 00s](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2251560_lg.jpg)
The end of DECADEnce may come a couple days late, as some of the massive pieces of writing I did last week, combined with a whole lot going on post-New Years pushed the time table for these lists back a little bit. At least it's finally getting done though, right? So what follows is the list that I consider to be the most important amid all the other lists I've written across the past 10 years. It is, after all, a grand summation of a decade's worth of fine records, these being the finest of the fine. Now before you [...]

Almost completely written by SR. FRIDAY Fizzy Dino Pop / Darktown Strutters / Sore Losers (City Tavern): It's easy to lose track of some of the things going on in your old stomping grounds when you move away to a new city, but one thing that certainly hasn't escaped my attention is the rising acclaim of Darktown Strutters-- it seems that the group's name keeps popping up more and more on Twitter and in conversations [...]
Following our tradition on this blog, I've waited till after the whole wonderful Christmas experience is over to start finishing artwork and writing up lists. Following from this, it's entirely possible you've had enough of lists and countdowns, but I doubt it. I don't present this list as an absolute and exact account of the best music of the decade; that would be silly. But these are the albums that meant most to me, and in the decade where I moved from listening to albums to favouring songs, they meant a lot. There are three more lists coming [...]

It's that time of the year again - for all the bloggers to compile their 'Top' lists of the year. Bloggers , critics, and film and music enthusiasts alike all love to compile lists: achingly long, bafflingly pointless and sinfully self-indulgent. We take hours - days even - putting these lists together, painstakingly jiggling them around, stroking our chins, scrapping them and starting all over again, before leaning back to look at our finished and entirely fruitless masterpiece, and sighing, only to re-shuffle it all over again. This list is just my opinion, my personal [...]

The end of the decade is nearing a close as we here at The Yellow Stereo present to you our favorite albums of 2009. Even though we haven't been around since the start of the decade, I want to say on my behalf that it's been an absolute joy doing running this blog for you guys for at least the past three or so years. Hopefully, we can ride this ship far into the years that are yet to come. Joining the usual crew this year were (Pablo and Val) were two new writers, Nathan and [...]

Something that has never happened in my life happened this year. I have never lived anywhere where I can honestly say that my top three favorite records of the year came out of the city in which I reside. It's been an honor, and a delight to live in Seattle this year because I have had the opportunity to see the Intelligence, BOAT and Erik Blood more times than I can count. Usually, if you're lucky you might get one chance to see your favorite band come through your town for a gig. I have had [...]

Whoa! Christmas came early! Download or stream it below and if you have a moment, let me know which Elliott Smith song is your favorite and why in the comments. Elliott Smith - Cecilia/Amanda [...]

This album is pretty chill, if totally overhyped. The water theme on this album is really prominent- "Beach Comber", "Pool Swimmers", "Black Lake", "Green River", and "Let's Rock the Beach" (which doesn't rock at all). There's a pretty clear correlation between this theme and the music- it's summertime surf jams, all barbeques and limeade, rooftop parties and bike rides. Real Estate is a relaxed, lo-fi album with good pop sensibilities. The singer is also a member of Ducktails, who shares a similar aesthetic of tropical grooves, relaxed jamming, and mountains of [...]

Real Estate Real Estate Woodsist Records [2009] Fire Note Says: Perfect for any time of the season! Album Review: The debut album from Real Estate is definitely the breezy affair that their album cover suggests. The New Jersey quartet brings together a mellow indie sway with a surf music backdrop all wrapped in subtle but yet gorgeous melodies. The bands approach has a very calming effect on the listener [...]
