Artist: Aerosmith Album: Toys in the Attic Release Date: April 8, 1975 I've been looking for a way into the ongoing mess that has been Aerosmith these past few weeks, and everything I've read and heard about it has held this album up on a pedestal, so here we are. My generation has a bit of a tainted view of Aerosmith. The biggest things they've done in the two decades I've been alive are the commerical juggernaut of Get A Grip and [...]

Back in Black. All of us here at Karmaloop look forward to the Triumvir line each season with near piss-ourselves excitement, and after getting the news that The III were going all-out cut & sew with their garments for the Fall and Holiday 2009 drop, anticipation was higher than blunted astronauts.

Lest any of you think my pining away this week for a real brick and mortar version of The Vinyl District was some Yoko Ono-like 'wish poem'...well, you're only partly right. Some interesting offers did come our way, although all best seized upon when the thing actually exists. But I don't need this to happen today or tomorrow. Or next week or next month. Longer range is fine. While I in fact hone the meter to that wish poem. [...]

In the Book Notes series, authors create and discuss a music playlist that relates in some way to their recently published book. Blake Butler is the rare young writer who consistently and effectively challenges his readers. Scorch Atlas is a haunting collection of interconnected stories and vignettes, a dystopian work of genius. The book itself is a work of art. The internal pages are individually distressed, and the page edges and cover appear burnt and scarred, and the design complements the book's theme perfectly. Matt [...]
There's something about Cincinnati that the members of Phish must love as they keep on coming back to the city for two-night stands. For an example of how good Cincy Phish fans have it, consider that The Queen City has gotten a total of seven Phish shows since Fall '99. During that same span, the only show in the Cleveland area was in Cuyahoga Falls on September 18, 2000. Quite the disparity when you consider Cleveland is the bigger city. Phish in Cinncinnati - Venue Segues [...]
Here's a new track off of the upcoming Fall Be Kind EP. It's like The Beach Boys + Acid + The Circus. The song doesn't really pick up until around the 3:00 mark, at which point it gets really cool. Thanks to V&V . Pigeons and Planes

Guess this is the sort of stuff you will find under the tree this Christmas - if you have been bad. I'd rather have a gift card, you know? Anyway - here are some new efforts from Big Superstars who are still trying to get your hard-earned money this holiday season, although you need it way more than they do. Norah Jones has sold a zillion albums but she has really put out only four, and The Fall is certainly her liveliest album to date. She's kinda wanting to [...]

In the Book Notes series, authors create and discuss a music playlist that relates in some way to their recently published book. Ben Shaberman's essay collection The Vegan Monologues is more than a book about not eating animals. Sherman touches on political, social, and environmental issues while recounting his own experiences, always in his humorous yet poignant voice. In his own words, here is Ben Shaberman's Book Notes music playlist for his essay collection, The Vegan Monologues : [...]

Animal Collective have apparently sent out CDs of their new EP to customers three weeks early by accident. This, inevitably, has lead to an immediate full quality version leaking on to the internet. The experimental band from Baltimore's new release has been highly anticipated by fans after the massive success of Merriweather Post Pavilion. On the first listen, the EP brings the same haphazardness of their 2008 album, but with a little more chilled feeling. I can imagine that, just like MPP, I will grow to love it. But it will take quite a [...]
By Jace Clayton, a.k.a. DJ /rupture Jace Clayton, a.k.a. DJ /rupture ( Stefano Giovaninni ) A new mix album of mine was released this week. I'm told it is in stores, Google reveals sites in Romania and the Netherlands who've pirated it already, and you can purchase it online, legally, in a variety of digital formats. [...]
Animal Collective has yet again released another single off their up and coming EP Fall Be Kind . This one is called " Graze ". In this track you notice Animal Collective not deviating too far from their experimental roots. The song starts slow, with echoeing vocals playfully chattering back and forth, accompanied by a soft string section and the inconsistant clatter of something that sounds like wooden sticks. Dave Portner or Avey Tare's voice reaches quite an intensity, which is uncharacteristic of his usual harmonization. The song works great as an introduction because at the last [...]
Los Angeles pop-rock group Oh No Not Stereo are joining Hit The Lights on tour this fall, taking their high-energy live show coast to coast. The four-piece will be jumping on the remainder of the Manatour—which also features There For Tomorrow, Fireworks, Vinnie Caruana and Sparks The Rescue—beginning this Saturday in Anaheim, CA. Having self-released their [...]

Featured in the newest issue of Alternative Press is the magazine's "Haircut 100" special, counting down a decade of the comtemporary punk/emo scene's best singles. Topping the list is "One Armed Scissor," the 2000 single by defunct post-hardcore icons At The Drive-In . Other notable entries are the Gaslight Anthem 's "The '59 Sound" at No. 13, Piebald 's "American Hearts" at No. 23, Against Me! 's "Thrash Unreal" at No. 46, the Bouncing Souls ' "True Believers" at No. 50 and Dropkick Murphys ' "I'm Shipping Up To Boston" at No. [...]
Words: Gareth O'Malley They say that you should never judge a book - or in this case, an album - by its cover, but if you were to make assumptions about The Mercury Program 's fourth record, 'Chez Viking' based on its cover displaying an image of tranquility, guessing that within lay an album heavy on ambience and atmospherics, you would be absolutely spot-on. The US-based quartet (from Gainsville, Florida, to be precise), consisting of Dave Lebleu on drums, Sander Travisano on bass, his brother Whit on vibraphone and piano, and Tom Reno [...]

The fact that city funded live music is in trouble doesn't seem to be holding Chicago back from being a prime destination for the festival scene. Gapers Block reports that the The Bamboozle music festival will hit the First Midwest Amphitheater on May 15, 2010. Having evolved from the Skate and Surf Festival, The Bamboozle is a 2-day festival heavy on Warped Tour-esque bands. What started out as a New Jersey event has recently broadened its [...]
Friday! Quick-hit thoughts of the week! QUICK-HIT THOUGHTS OF THE WEEK! 1. Whatever Brains - Gross Urge (mp3) ( buy ) BAM! Whatever Brains ( myspace ) is a Raleigh, North Carolina band called WHATEVER BRAINS. That automatically qualifies them to be AWESOME, but this song - along with a lot of the rest of their Trim-Jeans and/or Gross Urge Plus Ten CD-R - qualifies them to be DOUBLE AWESOME. I'm more comfortable thinking of them as traditional lo-fi punk than as [...]

Email interview conducted by Josephine Tempongko ( DJ Pandai'a ). Mary Anne Hobbs is arguably experimental music's most seminal figurehead- having hosted BBC Radio 1's Experimental Show (formerly called Breezeblock ) for over 10 years, her relentless pursuit of the electronic underground's most ground-breaking and elemental sounds continues to reward the world with an opportunity to hear something that they've never heard before. From her beginnings covering rock music for the NME and Loaded magazine, to her third [...]
