A Faulty Chromosome - Tippy-Toes WTF. How is A Faulty Chromosome not being worshiped by every indie music nerd on the planet? These guys are creating the best weirdo bedroom pop and they're making it all their own. Craving To Be Coddled So We Feel Fake-Safe is the follow up to my second favorite record of last year, their debut As An Ex-Anorexic's... , and it's every bit as awesome as their [...]

Here's a couple of new ones from Austin's A Faulty Chromosome , whose new album Craving To Be Coddled So We Feel Fake-Safe is still in the production phase. Times are tough all over, and the band has set up a unique fund-raising project through Kickstarter (which you can read all about here ) to help with the mastering, design, pressing, and eventual promotion. Listen to new tracks "Bad Thing" and "Picking On Us Like We're Picayune" below; "Bad Thing" is a blissed-out fuzz-pop gem reminiscent of their best songs [...]

A Faulty Chromosome craving to be coddled so we can feel fake-safe (2009, self released) RIYL = The Evangelicals, old Built To Spill, "um, hard won warm fuzzies?" (That's me quoting my mind.) I have been waiting for this album some time now, periodically checking A Faulty Chromosome's MySpace page for any digestible new updates like a giddy little girl refreshing the American Girl website every 2 hours in order to be the first to see their newest doll ("follow your inner star"). So, yeah, kinda creepy and overly obsessive (and now trying to [...]

A Faulty Chromosome - Little Miracles I'm liking the sound of this group. In this song they use a beautiful array of instruments to lay down a beat. They use some synths and also sample a few clips of people speaking. The electro type sound that they have with the energetic vocals and beats is such a beautiful combination. Just a relaxing group of tracks that they produce. Experimental groups these days come up with more and more to try. Hey, listen to this!: [...]
Down and Out in Austin, Texas Eric Dalke from A Faulty Chromosome sent us a wonderful email last week, complete with a link to download his band's new album and information about a pledge drive they're doing to raise money to pay for making it. It's great then that A Faulty Chromosome's music is extremely good, spinning a cutesy pop buzz in line with The Unicorns, The Zookeepers and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. The four piece band from Austin, Texas make a kind of children's music [...]

Technoir MA - Roundabout Technoir MA , occasionally known without the MA, are a couple of dudes from Somerville that know how to put smiles on faces. They do the catchy indie electro popgaze really really well. Their new EP is 20 minutes worth of truly wonderful tunes that are 100% danceable while avoiding the "dance" label, similar to A Faulty Chromosome or Radio Dept. They got the dreamy guitars, echoey electronic drum [...]

Recommended Show: SUNDAY, MAY 17, 2009 THE VASELINES & WOODS @ BOWERY BALLROOM 6 Delancey Street New York, NY 10002 $25, 8PM Much like most of my generation, The Vaselines are known as one of those bands that Kurt Cobain talked about all the time. Nirvana ended up covering a bunch of their songs, which found their way onto Unplugged and Incesticide . But the original band is back and playing Bowery Ballroom tonight with intentionally-difficult-to-Goo gle openers, Woods. Cymbals Eat Guitars @ Glasslands Iron and Wine @ Abrons Art [...]

A Faulty Chromosome - Love Goes Home to Paris in the Spring A nice cover version of one of my favourite titled songs, the Magnetic Fields' Love Goes Home to Paris (original video below), by Texans A Faulty Chromosome. There can be no better description of their sound than: "a fuzzy mess of tremolo, hand-claps, 8-bit blips, water-damaged Mister Rogers records, mashed Casio chords and drum machine'd beats," on their last.fm profile. AFC'S debut album, as an ex-anorexic's six sicks exit, can be downloaded for free from their MySpace and the group [...]
Paste's band of the week is Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears . When you watch Black Joe Lewis enthrall a crowd of hipsters with soul riffs hotter than Bo Diddley's kitchen stove, keep one thing in mind: the 27-year-old performer is still figuring out just what he's capable of. On Tell 'Em What Your Name Is , Lewis' first full-length album, (out March 17 via Lost Highway) the soul screamer and his Honeybears band combine an instantly familiar sound with a raw, modern potential and an uppercut-quick delivery (the album's ten [...]

Photo by ryan muir Now, if anyone has a story or two from life on the road, it's Au Revoir Simone. Band members Heather D'Angelo, Erika Forster, & Annie Hart have spent the last two years on tour, an experience that's shaped their forthcoming full-length, Still Night, Still Light . The ladies were nice enough to sit down & write XLR8R a few anecdotes that involve singing policemen, adventures in Denton, TX, Italian toilets, and the loss of some very prized possessions. What are you listening [...]

So as it is to be expected, this upcoming week will be a tangled mess of random thoughts and blurbs about bands that have struck our fancy that will be at this years SXSW. In the first entry of the sort, I take a quick look at New York, New York's Crime Novels. Being assaulted by in your face fat and nasty synthesizers, abrasive vocals, and tightly programmed drum machines is a favorite [...]
