From television to the radio to the internet, indie-folk newcomer A.A. Bondy has been popping up everywhere lately. In addition to touring with Bon Iver, the Felice Brothers and Conor Oberst, he'... Continue reading "Interview : A.A. Bondy, Playing Tonight at the Gargoyle" >

Following the Felice Brothers debacle (Band o.k. with taping/Management Not). I've just had a second set of correspondance regarding a show i posted a couple of months back. I've therefore temporarily taken all mp3 downloads down as they are within my control. The FLAC links i've left in as once a seed is completed its outside my control to stop any more dissemination. Going forward i'll only be posting shows where i have express permission from the Band Management rather than relying on third hand information from other tapers or band forums, or even [...]
I know I know, it came out in September and yes I am aware other blogs may have written about it, am I bothered? Not in the least, this blog has never been about being the first to post about someone although many times we have been but in the case of Mr Bondy I feel his new album, When the devil's loose , deserves to be blogged about by as many people as possible as it's an amazing piece of work. Recorded mostly in Mississipi by Bruce Watson of Fat possum records who has [...]

I was talking with John, the lead singer of Roadside Graves, after this session about how to describe the band to those unfamiliar with the New Jersey outfit. He tended to go with older acts such such as The Band, Dylan and Burrito Brothers while I threw out modern day contemporaries like The Felice Brothers amongst others. This became a tired exercise, so I said to tell them this: "We sound like awesome. Go buy a t-shirt." And they do and I did purchase myself a t-shirt that night after the session. Finding out Roadside Graves was putting [...]

Today my inbox has introduced me to a band I have somehow missed, but know I'm just going to love. The Duke & The King are a glam-soul-folk quartet from New York featuring Simone Felice, Bobbie Bird Burke, Simi Stone and Nowell Haskins. Named after the travelling Shakespeare Hustlers in Mark Twain's 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn', these curious blood-brothers (and sweet sister) have found a home together, a travelling church of harmony and sin where its OK to French kiss your cousin and all strays are welcome to come out of the cold and [...]

Fuori pioggia all'interno atmosfera rilassata come impone ogni concerto folk. Un sacco di gente direi, fondamentalmente troppa mentre mi guardo [...]

Q Magazine is always a bit more poppy than the other magazines. Uncut is the one that your Dad can agree with, and NME is a bit more clued in with the Pitchfork hipsters. Q was always a fan of everything. And 2009's Best of albums list is no different. 50. Jarvis Cocker - Further Complications 49. Bob Dylan - Together Through Life 48. Ian Brown - My Way 47. Madness - The Liberty of Norton Folgate 46. Golden Silvers - True Romance I bet this is the only list this year where you'll see Madness. [...]

No, folks, I have not given up on this blog. I sincerely apologize for not living up to this blog's name this year. You'd think at least one post a month would be easy enough. For various reasons that I won't bore you with, I just wasn't able to. My second job has taken up so much more time this year than it did last year. Which is a good thing...extra money is always good. It seems in today's economy you either are out of work or you are working more for the same [...]

A few things have gone well for David Lamb recently. His Providence-by-way-of-Maine-by- way-of-Seattle pet project Brown Bird seems to be hitting a lot of right notes of late. After releasing an impressive album last year (2008's The Bottom Of The Sea ), Brown Bird have been playing and touring relentlessly and solidifying their sound, developing into a miniature orchestra of harmonized voices and instruments. In a music industry where americana music is groundswelling, Brown Bird might be poising themselves for a breakthrough. If timing and location have anything to do with it, [...]

May the randomness continue! Here at The Music Ninja we are all about variety, bringing music from all types of genres. I was originally going to name it Random Music Fridays but I missed it by a couple of hours Will definitely try to make huge posts like these with random songs every week for those of you that are not confined to a specific taste in music! "Australia" is a song by American indie rock band The Shins, and is the second track on their third album Wincing The Night Away [...]
On the heels of his latest release, When the Devil's Loose , A.A. Bondy is already working on/gearing up for some tour dates with the likes of the Felice Brothers and Elvis Perkins in Dearland between October early November. But, that hasn't stopped him from piling on some more headlining stints across the US to fill in the gaps. In an effort to up the ante, Bondy has chosen to spread his Dylanesque folk from Milwaukee to New York between November 24th and December 9th, in addition to his already plentiful dates in [...]
