I never got around to giving "It Might Get Loud" a proper review, but rest assured it was a must-see for anyone interested in music, guitars, Jimmy Paige, Jack White, the blues, etc. It was basically an amazing 1-1/2 doc. that I walked out of saying "man The Edge is a piece of shit". Although he is supposedly an unsurpassed effects genius, his only real purpose in the film was to serve as a foil to White's no-frills genius and to make White/Paige look all the more brilliant. One of the cooler discoveries for me from the film [...]

Here's one for you garage rock/"insurgent" country/rockabilly surf fans as former Flat Duo Jets' frontman Dex Romweber, accompanied by his sister Sara on drums, hits Charlottesville tonight. The pair will be performing this evening at iS Venue as the recently formed Dex Romweber Duo , with special guests The Leeroys kicking things off. 9pm. $7. The Dex Romweber Duo released their debut album Ruins of Berlin earlier this year on Bloodshot Records and the album features guest appearances by the likes of Neko [...]
Choose wisely, for the next few days are going to make for some difficult decisions when it comes to your entertainment dollar. For example, tonight Black Francis and Bill Fox are at the Grog Shop while The Walkmen, recent Best New Music recipient, Cass McCombs, and Coffinberry are at The Beachland Ballroom. Would it make your decision any easier if I told you that Black Francis will be playing selections from his entire career, maybe even a Pixies song or two? That's what I've been told. Tonight: Black Francis, Bill Fox @ Grog Shop. [...]

On Thursday I'm planning on being at TTs for the Detroit Cobras and Dexter Romweber Duo show. This looks like a great show so I really hope that there are tickets available at the door. If it's soldout, maybe I'll end up at the Plough for the Andrea Gillis Variety Show(could be cool). Friday has a couple of shows that look good. Fiery Furnaces with Hallelujah the Hills and the Bodega Girls at the Middle East are definitely worth a look if you've never seen them before. And if you like Queen, the Lizard is where you want to be, [...]

Written By Ira Brooker There's a reason the summer festival season is the high point of the year for a lot of concertgoers. Like cooking burgers or shooting hoops, watching live music is one of those indoor activities that takes on whole new dimensions when moved outdoors. Every summer sees a ton of ink spilled on the likes of Sasquatch, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits, but oftentimes it's the smaller, more niche-y festivals that capture the true charm of the season. [...]
Here's a 3 night run at the House of Blues. On Thursday, if you're lucky you have tickets go see TV on the Radio at the House of Blues. On Friday the House of Blues hosts Gorgol Bordello. And on Saturday, PJ Harvey would be a great show to catch at the House of Blues. If you feel like braving the masses, Harpoon is hosting their Summer Session on Friday and Saturday. On Saturday they have an Americana stage and Girls Guns and Glory are performing. Check here for set times: www.harpoonbrewery.com [...]

On Thursday, Au Revoir Simone is at TTs and they're great. I've seen them a couple of times and put on a good show. Or you can get your uke on by heading over to Toad for Melvern Taylor's early set. On Friday, there are a many many cool shows to check out. The Norweigian band I Was King looks tempting, as do the Figgs at the Midway but knowing me, I'll probably end up at Precinct for Muck & the Mires and Andrea Gillis. The incomparable Leonard Cohen is playing 2 nights, Friday and Saturday at the Citi Center [...]

On Thursday is Keane at the Pavillion and I have a soft spot for them. Plus it's supposed to be a great evening weather-wise and it'd be great to be outside listening to music. On Friday the show at the Middle East Down is very tempting with Hallelujah the Hills, Magic Magic and Cymbals Eat Guitar. My pick for Saturday is the big St Stanislaus Day Polka Party at the Polish American Club in East Cambridge. Yup, there'll be polka music and yup there'll be yummy Polish food like kielbasa and pierogis and yup there'll be beer. I dare you [...]

Okay, so my mind is reeling from the Lost season finale but I will do my best to focus on music now. On Thursday, you can start your night off with a little uke music at Toad with Melvern Taylor (and it's free). Rhett Miller, from the Old 97s would be a cool show. Also the Killer Abs rock so the Church show would be a good choice. On Friday I'm leaning toward going to the Plough to see Andrea Gillis, although the Konks at the Cantab would be fun as well as the [...]

So somehow this is turning into Jack White week.Plus I've been meaning to tell you about Flat Duo Jets.So this works out well. here is what Jack White said about Flat Duo Jets. "Dexter Romweber was and is a huge influence on my music. I owned all of his records as a teenager, and was thrilled at the fact that we were able to play together recently on tour. His attitude towards music is remarkable. And his songwriting, along with his love of classic American music from the south, be it rockabilly, country or R&B, is one of [...]
A great way to start the weekend is by heading over to Toad on Thursday for the free early set by Electrolux and if you're having fun, you can stay and check out the residency set by One Happy Island. On Friday, I'll be getting my inner geek on and heading off to see the new Star Trek movie and I am very excited! If I weren't, I'd be going to Fan Pier to see Buffalo Tom and the Great Bandini. I hear festivities start at 7p and expect Buffalo Tom to perform at 9p. Did I mention that it's [...]

Jack White launched his new Nashville based studio Third Man last month. It's a self contained musicians dream. Complete with recording studio, photo studio, and record store. Jack has been quite busy with his various projects and recently announced that his label will launch a 73 vinyl record singles club. Jack wrapped up a session with one of his longtime influences Dexter Romweber, of Flat Duo Jets fame. His recent project The Dead Weather is due in June on Warner Bros/Third Man.

Jack White teams up with Dex Romweber Duo Jack White has teamed up with the Dex Romweber Duo to release a seven-inch single later this month. The two songs were recorded at The White Stripes frontman's home studio in Nashville, and feature White playing guitar and bass, singing vocals, and playing a saw. The record was produced by White and engineered by Vance Powell who has previously worked with The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather). The single is due to be released in late May via White's label, [...]
Despite what the above image and tricky headline might have you think, Jack White isn't already abandoning his latest project, The Dead Weather, to run off with Dex Romweber. However, White did churn out a couple of tracks with the Bloodshot duo that will appear as a 7". The two-song vinyl is due sometime later this month from Jack White's very own (and brand new) Third Man Records (which happened to release the debut 7" from The Dead Weather--who would have thought?). By now it's no secret that in lieu of sex, food, and [...]
Wanna re-think where you're standing, Carrot-Top-style Jack White? No? OK, that's fine.Rockabilly road warrior Dex Romweber--you might know him from The Flat Duo Jets...then again, you might not--has ... Continue reading "Jack White Featured on Forthcoming Dex Romweber 7-Inch" >

Here's what's up for this week. On Thursday my pick is Lars Vegas at the Alchemist in JP. How can you beat hearing Bunnyman for free? On Friday people are talking about the Electric Six/Bang Camaro show at the Middle East, not certain if there are tix left or not. If you get shut out of that show head over to the Plough for the Outlets acoustic thing. On Saturday don't forget to stop by your local comic book store for some freebies. I hear William Shatner has a new comic book that will be part of the promotion. I'm [...]

Apparently free or cheap food are big hits so we'll start with shout outs for free grilled chicken at KFC on Monday and $.31 ice cream at Baskin Robbins on Wednesday. Sorry I missed the $.50 Dunkin Donuts coffee last week... Onto the music! The Thursday show at the Middle East could be really fun with Quintron and Miss Pussy Cat. And of course there's a tribute night to the ledgendary Johnny Cash at Johnny D's and how can [...]
I can't believe that this weekend is finally here. I'm calling it my 2 Car Garage Weekend because of the 2 big garage shows shows that are happening. Friday will be the night of matching shirts with the Woggles and Muck & the Mires at TTs. And Saturday one of my all time favorite bands The Fleshtones will be hitting the stage with the Lyres (doors are at 8p for this show) at the Middle East Upstairs. Don't worry if garage music isn't [...]

Can't believe it's already the middle of April, time flies when you're rockin'! The Rumble rumbles forth at the Middle East Thursday thru Saturday and that's always a good choice. The Von Ehrics sound interesting on Thursday, thinking about that show. On Friday, many people have mentioned the show at Church with Sarah Borges and Reverse. Saturday you can go old school and see The Outlets at Church although Slim Jim could be entertaining at O'Briens, such a quandary. If anyone has a free extra ticket for Robyn Hitchcock on Monday at the Paradise...pick me, pick me... [...]
