We've got the intergalactic album cover where he's ripping off Kanye West's metro (are people still saying metro, or is there some newer, cooler way to describe a fashionable straight man?) schtick. Then he stole his style from Michael Jackson while performing at a concert in New Jersey. Still latching onto the MJ craze right now, Brown is releasing a new song on his album called "Bad." What, "Thriller" would have been too obvious? So what's "Bad" about, Chris? He tells MTV News : "Me and [Soulja Boy Tell'em] [...]

Louisville and the surrounding area considers itself a regionally and culturally ambiguous area. There's probably truth to that. This mindset definitely yields some undeniably unique artists and groovy tunes that will rip open your mind with good vibes. It's about time to highlight some of the music in the area that brings engaging cosmic riffage with a hint of colloquial charm. This is the first in an ongoing series of features. Here's the first taste... I've been meaning to write about Tiny Fights forever [...]

Smell like Faith Hill. By Linda Holmes, blogger, NPR's Monkey See There's no way to sum up the musical culture of the decade without touching upon the fact that musicians are turning themselves into brands more aggressively than ever before. It's no longer enough to be a singer. You must make dresses. You must make perfume. You must make hats and booze. So here, [...]
Forgive me Blogger, for I have sinned. I know I've dismissed, unfairly at times, a lot of music in the past few months--I can't help it, it's in my nature. I also know that I've failed to write about the small amount of music I actually have liked--surely no way for a hobbyist critic with delusions of grandeur to act. So here, without further ado, are some reviews... Mew--No More Stories... Mew have always been a prog rock group--I don't think anybody will dispute that. [...]
Much as I love the changing seasons, I find it sad to close down summer, to cover the furniture, take the candles off the trees, pack the umbrella away and shut down my outside shower. The fountain is already dry, and I miss its sound through the open window. Winter is a quiet season, often shrouded in snow. Closed windows keep the world at bay. Summer invites me outside to have my coffee and read my newspapers, to sit with the sun on my face and to nap on the lounge. Winter is a warm afghan and slippers. It's a [...]
Little Dragon is an electro-pop band from Gothenburg, Sweden. Their second album Machine Dreams is supposedly out Oct. 20 but it's on Rhapsody now so maybe not? Two tracks from the album, "Blinking Pigs" and "Feather", are available for download here and here . For a history of the band including the singer's appearance on Jose Gonzales' album In Our Nature , see their Wikipedia entry . Also make sure to check out this remix of "Forever", a song on their debut 2007 album. [...]
Tom Waits isn't the only Pride of National City "Angel Baby" by Rosie & the Originals should be the official song of National City, California, the way states have flowers or universities have mascots. The song reached #5 on the Billboard charts in late 1960, and most people don't even know who sang it, even if they are familiar with the tune. But for generations of kids who grew up in neighborhoods like mine, "Angel Baby" will always be the anthem of our childhood and an indelible part of the soundtrack of our lives. Other songs like "Always and [...]
Buddhist monks blessing the crowd in the wee hours of the morn. For the Bon Iver preformance review jump to where is says BON IVER. So I think everyone has a little Goth in them and why not? I mean there is darkness all around in the media in our daily lives in general. Justin Vernon must have a little more than the average Cure fan. Look at his lyrics: "Only love is all maroon Lapping lakes like leery loons Leaving rope [...]

When it was announced that Bon Iver would play a sunrise set at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles I booked a flight pronto. The event ended up being one of the coolest musical experiences I've ever taken part in. We arrived to Hollywood Forever a little after midnight. Armed with sleeping bags, pillows, beers, and various food essentials to help us make it to the 6am set time. When we walked in there was a huge projection screen on the mausoleum that was the only source of light in [...]
I 've always found this girl Muffy, as she calls herself, confusing yet compelling. I personally, have never been able to resist any artist with crazy hair and a seemingly wild and fearless sense of style to match. It just brings to mind a nonchalance that usually makes the person seem more interesting. In a psychedelic kind of way. But who is she? Sweet, yummie, pop, bubbly, cupcakeiness can be very difficult to swallow even if over Bangladesh's heavy on the synth beats. But once you get to listening to her, the sweetness becomes a [...]

I must apologize for the amount of time I spent transcribing this interview, but this found itself to be one of the most difficult transcriptions I have ever done and I contemplated not bothering. However, Little Brazil is a fantastic band and there were some really great answers provided in this interview that I couldn't allow it to just get buried. At this point, I'm sure you're wondering what happened. Little Brazil 's guitarist Greg Edds and I left the venue in search of a quiet spot to conduct [...]

Folk blokes Ray LaMontagne and Josh Ritter teamed up for a quick spin around the UK. The soul-baring pairing works well. Lamontagne's woodsy and oft wounded introspection and Ritter's literary-laden tenderness let each shine a different facet of the folk gemstone and keep a well-versed audience delighted. Sheffield is a large city and draws big names to its arena. Just a few weeks ago residents were either at the U2 show or listening from their patios and open windows. In a few weeks, they'll be welcoming Sir Elton John. Tonight though, the 2,000+ patrons [...]

In the Book Notes series, authors create and discuss a music playlist that relates in some way to their recently published book. Frank Anthony Polito's debut novel Band Fags! impressed me with its snappy dialogue and realistic portrayal of late 1980's high school life. Drama Queers! is not a sequel to that book, but it does follow one of the characters from Band Fags! through an exciting and tumultuous senior year. The book is filled with humor (Brad's first trip to New York is one of the funniest things [...]

[ via ] Music News Hypebot reports the latest study results on teen's relationship with music and piracy, this time from the UK. Ben Hewitt has a chat with FRS hero Peter Hook . "That was the wonderful thing about Joy Division. From its inception to its demise, we never earned a single penny. We started it broke and finished it broke. There were no arguments about publishing, no arguments about money. It was very straightforward. It [...]
