We have decided to introduce a new occasional series under the banner 'Rarities and Collectors Items' where the audio might not be first class but the interest factor is likely quite high. There are many live recordings and demos to be found in varying degrees of quality and probable interest. These are just some that we are delighted to share. Several years after the dissolution of Colosseum, Jon Hiseman recruited Gary Moore and Don Airey to form Colosseum II . The mandate this time, [...]

The Orange County Register (MCT) -- More than three years have passed since New York band the Strokes released their third album, "First Impressions of Earth." Since then, the question has loomed: When, if ever, will they return? The group has given various answers, indicating they had begun recording a fourth disc in January, then later posting a message in July that they would spend the summer working toward an early 2010 release. Numerous delays have emerged lately, however, as most...

Review by WW's food and theater critic Ben Waterhouse. John Darnielle was in a good mood last night. Maybe it was the vegetarian platter he ate for dinner at Queen of Sheba (I was star-struck on the way to the bathroom when I ran across him eating, alone, at the MLK Blvd. Ethiopian joint), but I've never seen the Mountain Goats frontman so chatty. He lectured, in his breathless, endearingly geeky style, about the prophet Jonah, the psychological phenomenon of confabulation, the romantic tragedy of Mario Brothers and his realization that the city of Portland, [...]

Bottle rockets and smoke bombs lying dead on the sidewalk black marks on the concrete now but they were beautiful last night the picture of our life can we make this what it was? everything is right, everything's wrong sparklers only burn for so long ...watch the light dance in the dark 'til it's gone sparklers only burn for so long... Seattle's Rocky Votolato specializes in the kind of hushed, pensive songs that [...]

Earlier this week we roamed over to Luckenbach to soak up a little of that Texas mystique, and I thought while we're in the neighborhood we oughta just keep goin' about the good old days. Well, as I said, back in the 1970s Texas became the epicenter of something called the outlaw country music movement. It kinda started around 1972, right about the time Willie Nelson's Nashville home burned down and he moved back to Austin. Later that year Nelson held his first Fourth of July festival at Dripping Springs - featuring Waylon Jennings, Tompall Glaser, Kris Kristofferson and Leon [...]

Kangfirmed! The Colorado Daily is reporting that String Cheese Incident will head back out on the road in 2010, thereby continuing their reunion from earlier this summer at the Rothbury Festival : In an interview with the Daily's Wendy Kale to promote his side project EOTO, Travis confirmed that String Cheese is "going to be playing some shows next summer and fall." "We're not sure about the dates, but we're definitely going to be playing," Travis said. "We're excited to put all we can into this incredible meeting of [...]

Here at PopWreckoning, we've officially hit a level of mail that makes it impossible for us to give full reviews to every band. However, this does not mean we believe that these bands shouldn't be granted some for of press. It simply means we have to scale it down a bit. Therefore, we have opted to create a feature called Bite Size Reviews, which shall appear several times a week. This feature will contain 5 reviews each under 100 words and links to the albums website, MySpace page or label. We believe this is the best use [...]

Old Canes is the solo project of Chris Crisci of Appleseed Cast. Feral Harmonic , out now on Saddle Creek Records, is his second album and first since Early Morning Hymns was released in 2004. The raw rhythm-driven folk on the album is passed through the same experimental filters that made Appleseed Cast so interesting with added traditional folk instrumentation. A short noisy instrumental intro opens the album, setting the tone for "Little Bird Courage" and its spirited acoustic strumming, scuttling drums, toy piano and triumphant trumpets by Kelly Hangauer of fellow Kansas band Fourth [...]

Darlings have been slowly turning heads in Brooklyn for a while, playing shows at packed loft parties and getting a good deal of hype from Brooklyn based blogs. I only mention Brooklyn because, well, Darlings are a very local band, in the best way possible, and the new video for "Teenage Girl," composed of footage Darling Joe Tirabassi shot at a Fourth of July party in Williamsburg, firmly implants that notion. At the same time, "Teenage Girl," which references Sticky Fingers and Rubber Soul , is the sort of jangly pop song that has no regional [...]

Motion City Soundtrack have announced My Dinosaur Life as the title of their fourth studio album and Columbia Records debut. The album should be available in 2010. Every month, MAP (Music Alliance Pact) asks 34 music bloggers (now taking entries from Estonia ) across the world to share a track from their home country that they think you should hear. This month's Irish track is from Trophy Boyfriend . IRELAND: Nialler9 Trophy Boyfriend - Black Ship Despite the silly moniker, Gregor Ruigrok aka Trophy Boyfriend still managed [...]
It's been a year since Jason from The Pop Cop started Music Alliance Pact, a loose group of country specific blogs such as the one you're reading to showcase to each other's readership. Each month I choose a song that I think reflect the best of Australian music has to offer to the blogs. They are not necessarily the biggest hits or the most popular songs, but more what I think has the best chance of being listened to in the international blog readership. I hope you've enjoyed them because we will continue to do this as long [...]

Singer Jesse McCartney forgot the lyrics of the Star Spangled Banner at the NASCAR Pepsi 500 race in California. McCartney skipped the second line of the song. First of all, didn't we learn the Star Spangled Banner at a very early age? I mean it's our national anthem! You hear it at sporting events, sing it at school, and hear it every Fourth of July. Second of all he screwed up the beginning of the song, which I feel is the easiest part to remember. I can maybe understand not remembering "ramparts" and [...]
