The Stopmotion Men release their new EP 'What Now?' through Rogues Gallery Records on the 19th February, 2010. They are launching it with an exclusive hour-long set at Cardiff's The Globe on Friday the 19th February. Three-piece The Stopmotion Men are an epic, progressive rock band hailing from Cardiff. Lead vocalist Geraint Connor 's intense, awe-inspiring vocals are reminiscent of the emotive tones of Eddie Vedder and Jeff Buckley. They literally reach out and demand your attention. Propulsion, meanwhile, is [...]

April 2009: State catches BellX1 stumbling delicately through a short set of intimate classics accompanied only by an acoustic guitar, Lisa Hannigan and the occasional burst of electronica from a well-prepared iPod. Geraghty and Co. wowed a crammed Road Records on Record Store Day with the kind of microphone-free set that had you balancing on the rim of a display cabinet trying not to breath, in case the sound of your inhalation somehow spoiled the beauty of it all. November 2009: BellX1 play in Ireland for at least the 19th and 20th time this year, including starring at [...]

I explained my loathing of Christmas last year , and all I can say is how happy I am not to be working retail (it was getting pretty close as the resumés kept going out to no avail last year). I'm already feeling the funk creep in (not the Parliament kind) as I avoid the shopping centres and try my hardest to block out my mother's moaning about not having enough extended family for holiday occasions (the dig at my singleness is duly noted - if only she could understand what pure joy I have in my own company...she'd [...]

Toronto - I don't really listen to enough Canadian music. This I know to be true. This is possibly because I don't listen to much CBC Radio 3 . Anyways, Friday night was a big night for Canadian music. Over at Lee's Palace, there was the Rural Alberta Advantage, Bahamas and Fox Jaws show (you can read a review here ). While over on the East side of the city, Steamwhistle was presenting their very own Canadian night at the Phoenix, featuring Little Girls , Think About Life and You Say Party! We [...]

ROcktober continues with another great weekend. On Thursday, you could go to Precinct to check Barrence Whitfield on his second week of his October residency or go to the Alchemist in JP to see Lars Vegas (for Free!). Or maybe you want to revisit the 1980's and see Howard Jones at Scullers. On Friday, not certain if there are still tix available but I'm looking forward to seeing Black Joe Lewis at the Landsdowne Pub and then heading over to Harpers Ferry for the Upper Crust (gotta love their powdered wigs, puffy shirts and beauty marks!). If that's not your thing [...]
Wow, it's already October. I guess time flies when you're having fun or something like that. On Friday I'm torn about the Dinosaur Jr show at the Middle East for a little Pioneer Valley rock or Jay Retard at Harpers or Jetset and Highland Moore at the Plough, too many choices. Saturday has another good night of music with Ra Ra Riot at the Paradise (I love their Rhumb Line cd but have never seen them live yet), a great local line up at TTs with Sidewalk Driver, The Motion Sick, Aloud and John Powhida's International Airport and yet another [...]

Currently on its 35th series, BBC2's Later Live...With Jools Holland remains the unmissable Tuesday night 10pm essential for music fans of all ages backgrounds and tastes. Coupled with its perfectly timed 11.35pm extended version on Friday nights, the show truly exists as the most visible and consistent champion of quality music on the nation's TVs, a fifteen year institution that has become as valued a friend and resource to the artists and musician featured on the show as for the audience themselves. Like its TV counter-part, ' [...]

I've been out a lot in the last week, which means that while I have a lot that I could have blogged about, blogging has been low on the priority list. But here's a quick and dirty recap... I booked it, so I'm biased, but Techromancer kicked ass at Damaged Goods on Friday. Thanks to Calli and Andrew for playing. On Saturday, I caught one of my favourite bands, the Hold Steady , at the Vogue. It wasn't really the best venue for the band, but I guess it was the best suitable [...]
This is one of those weekends that I've been looking forward to for a long time and if you have too then yay! It's here. On Thursday, there's free ice cream at Coldstone Creamery which is a good start to any weekend. Also on Thursday, there are good choices for music for exotica/tiki music there's Waitiki at Ryles, there's Moby at the House of Blues, there's Poi Dog Pondering at the Regatta Bar, there's Elizabeth and the Catapult at TTs and Three Day Threshold at Toad. The Friday show that I'm really looking forward to is a big one at [...]

It has been ten years since the Manic Street Preachers last performed in the U.S. Usually when a band has taken this long between shows, they're probably on some sort of a reunion tour. Not in this case. In 1999, the Welsh trio were reaching the peak of their popularity and in the years since have headlined several huge festivals and released four additional albums. Unfortunately their success at home and abroad didn't result in the band touring here. All those lost years, the aforementioned albums, plus the band's [...]
