Beck - "Harry Partch" ; The history of the musical feud dates back centuries probably, but in the last few decades it has really been the bearer of some terrific music at the hands of the hated on. This week Beck responded to all this Matt Friedberger (of The Fiery Furnaces) vs. Radiohead vs. Himself controversy with a song dedicated to late composer Harry Partch. Now that's not the same Harry Patch that Radiohead dedicated a song to. This little tune featuring snippets from Fiery Furnaces' songs and Partch's own composition structure really takes Friedberger to town. To [...]
Hair metal fans are all :( this week because Motley Crue released their fifth album of greatest hits, yet another comp that collects most of Shout at the Devil with whatever other garbage was on the band's most recent album. Apparently these fans are surprised that Motley Crue, a non-capitalist enterprise and a long-running bastion of giving fans a fair shake, would like their fans to pony up more money for old songs they already know. I guess the best part of this whole thing is that Motley Crue have released five greatest hits albums since 1991, which [...]

Easyboy - Sunny Day Garbage Pile Easyboy is the solo stuff from Eric Farber, member of the insane electro-tribal awesome dudes Truman Peyote . Friends is his first (?) release of hypno pop jams and it's 100% worth your ear time. I'm not sure that Farber was straight when he made this tape because it reminds me a bit of Farmacia's Nosocomio Manicomio and they [...]

Hailing from New Jersey and currently residing in Seattle, Rachel Flotard has been piloting Visqueen for years while singing with Neko Case. When her father took ill, she put her career on hold in order to spend time with him as he battled prostate cancer. Losing her dad led Flotard to take deeper stock of her life and career. She formed her own indie label, Local 638 Records, and released the power-pop gem Message to Garcia to rave reviews. In this EXCLUSIVE interview, Rachel Flotard recalls the evolution of her new album and some of her [...]
MM is based in rural Oxfordshire, which gives us a slightly odd musical heritage. While the area is no Liverpool or Manchester it does probably punch above its weight musically. We have Radiohead, possibly the biggest band in the world and unlike other bands bestowed with such a title (U2, REM etc.) yet to show any signs of turning into total and utter garbage. We have Supergrass, and one of the

There is nothing truly brilliant about living in New Jersey. The "armpit of America" that sits just a few miles to New York City's west has long been a wasteland where garbage and refineries go because people don't really want to. Sure, some people glorify the Jersey shore or wax poetic about the sameness of it's cul-de-sacs but truly who would ever want to live in a place where you had to drive from place to place to reach any sort of humanity? The Garden State has long been the butt of America's jokes and yet this year amazing music [...]

When DOOM released Born Like This earlier this year, his first record in four years, the rapper formerly known as MF Doom dished on anarchy, violence and homophobia. In short, the project stunk of hatred and pessimism. Unexpected Guests , a collection of Born b-sides, remixes and other oddball tracks, couldn't be more different. It's shorter, more diverse and mercifully goofy. Guests is structured as a scattershot mix tape, a medium that suits DOOM better than the full-length. Songs dissipate just as they break a sweat and give way to [...]
Jim Jones always manages to get some solid production behind him. Cam'ron and Vado on the other hand, what is up with that garbage? Download: Jim Jones ft. Mel Matrix and NOE - Hit Em Up Jim Jones ft. Mel Matrix and NOE - Hit Em Up is a post from: 100 Best Rap Songs

After meeting Will Stratton you have to hope that the old saying, "nice guys finish last", is complete and utter garbage. Stratton is the very definition of nice, a cordial young fellow willing to talk to any and all who approach him after a show and it helps that his music is so easy to fall for. With his subtle voice and terrific guitar strumming, Stratton has begun to establish himself as a singer/songwriter for a new generation of indie fans. Earlier this summer we saw Stratton perform acoustic in Prospect Park and it [...]

The new Weezer album is practically unlistenable. I did some searching around the blogs and I am not the only one to feel this way. What happened to this once favorite band of ours? Ever since Pinkerton, I've tried to convince myself the subsequent albums were good. They haven't been. They do have some great singles off the "Green" and "Red" albums, but in this day in age you need to come with a great album else we will just buy your singles off Amazon or iTunes. If you are ok with making sales a $1 [...]

Being the young age I am (under 30) this last decade was really the one where I can intensely focus on new releases, critically analyze and find real magic in modern music. As much as I wish I was cool enough to say I bought "Slanted and Enchanted" on vinyl the day it came out or smoke a joint and sit around with my friends about to listen to "The Bends follow-up album" with everyone saying "this better not suck!" But since I never saw Nirvana in a basement and didn't hear "Loveless" until Billy Corgan recommended it I'll just stick to [...]
Brendan Benson Genre: Rock / Alternative Rock/ Power Pop From: Nashville, Tennessee, United States The music business is a fickle mistress. Before his collaboration with Jack White in the Raconteurs Brendan Benson's solo career wasn't exactly lighting fires. His debut album , One Mississippi , was released in 1996 on Virgin Records but despite critical acclaim sold less copies than a Paris Hilton covers album [...]

click image to view artist in itunes Sounds like: Bull shit, middle school garbage An Open Letter to Weezer: Congratulations. You've done it again, you sneaky sons of bitches. What can I say? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me two more additional times and I take that as you feeling up my mother. How dare you think of what you have produced as acceptable? I'll spare you the common argument of the Blue album being [...]
As I offhandedly mentioned the other day , the new Mikkel Meyer record "Bacon" is pretty great, easily one of the best electronica releases I've heard in 2009. For a while I had him confused with Mikkel Metal , another Danish electronic artist whose work tends to be jazzier, more minimal, and frankly, pretty damn boring, but lucky for Meyer, his work is nothing like that at all. "Tunge" is one of the few non-instrumental tracks from the record and sees him paired with rapper Non from Chicago-based act [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Band of Horses will headline a children's benefit in Los Angeles later this month that will also feature stripped-down sets from Tom Morello 's Nightwatchman solo project, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club , Against Me! frontman Tom Gabel and Garbage 's Shirley Manson . The gig, set for the Avalon in Hollywood on Nov. 21, will help raise money for the Pablove Foundation. "We're really excited to announce a very special benefit [...]
Fantastic Mr. Fox is truly fantastic. I can't claim to remember the Roald Dahl book perfectly, but the film certainly offers a fun and corky plot line, with witty foxes whom have human like characteristics and lifestyles. Wes Anderson took adaptations and visions both from what a kid and an adult would take from a story such as Roald Dahl's 'Fantastic Mr. Fox'. Mr. Fox (voiced by George Clooney ) and Mrs. Fox ( Meryl Streep ) are middle aged-married foxes, coping with Mr. Fox's unhappiness [...]

This mash up has been on my mind for a couple of days now but I didn't have any time to post it yet. Tss. are a belgian dj/producing duo that play a lot of selfmade mash ups. Recently they took the time to record one and spread it all over the blog world. It's a mashup with Fake Blood 's Mars and Boys Noize 's remix of I-Robot, I really loved the way they integrated the Mars vocal into the catchy I-Robot vocals. Mars Frau (Tss. Mash Up) 1 [...]
Paul & The Patients Week 5 Song of the Week: "Not A Lot" This week on Paul & The Patients "To The Lions" Song of the Week brings us " Not A Lot ". Download for free or a fee here . Here's an explanation of the track: "So this week's song is a perfect example of how I sometimes very loosely base lyrical content on real life events. It's usually a specific story to represent a more general whole, which is actually a synecdoche I [...]
