Wherein I opine, and you can comment on how stupid I am . . . Caveats and regulations: 1. For a show to be on here, it has to have sustained quality for its entire run —not just have had a few good episodes or one good season. 2. This list is accurate and scientific, and if you disagree, you're just wrong. 3. If you think Heroes is one of the best series, you must not have seen the last two seasons. 4. If you [...]

In the previous instalments of Curious Germany we noted the tendency in the 1960s of artists re-recording their hits in European languages, particularly in German to cater for the mainland continent's biggest market. Here are a few more German re-recordings, plus a Motown-goes-Schlager track, a most unexpected cover, pre-Schlager stardom Krautrock, a slightly strange Beatles cover, and another singing footballer. * * * The Beatles – Komm, gib' mir Deine Hand.mp3 The Beatles – [...]
Ringo Starr has announced the first batch of dates for the North American summer tour supporting his 15th and latest album, Y Not , and, once again, he'll be joined by his All-Starr Band . The 11th rendition of the outfit features rhythm guitarist Wally Palmar of The Romantics, guitarist Rick Derringer, Edgar Winter and Gary Wright on keyboards, Mr. Mister frontman Richard Page on bass, and Gregg Bissonette on drums. He may also have God, whom he has recently discovered , on his side - so this tour [...]

Label: Secretly Canadian Release date: 09/02/10 Yeasayer's Website Pardon my French, but HOLY SHIT. Indie psych's Yeasayer have stirred up brains and consciousnesses with their amazing debut All Hour Cymbals since 2007. And when it was announced that its follow up would be out in 2010 and that it was called Odd Blood everyone went into instant waiting mode if they cared about the band. As one of the people who patiently waited until something came, I [...]

Roy Orbison , one of the very few artists to have been accepted by the world in all forms of popular music, and to have won Grammys in pop, rock 'n' roll and country categories, was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame . The ceremony took place in front of Capitol Records , where Roy's star is next to those of his dear friend John Lennon and fellow Traveling Wilbury George Harrison . Saluting Roy's passion for riding Harley's, [...]

Asha Puthli is a weirdo. But around these parts weird is always a good thing. She digs love and covers this George Harrison track beautifully with vocals so smokey seductive they'd put Eartha Kitt's Cat Woman to shame. Ooooh yeah, baby. ASHA PUTHLI - I DIG LOVE

At last night's 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards , All Together Now , the feature-length documentary about the making of The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil ® won the GRAMMY for Best Long Form Music Video (Adrian Wills, director; Martin Bolduc and Jonathan Clyde, producers). All Together Now details the story behind the unique partnership between The Beatles and Cirque du Soleil that resulted in the creation and 2006 launch of LOVE at The Mirage in Las Vegas. Buy [...]

No real surprises to report. Beyoncé earned a bundle of Grammys. Lady Gaga delivered a rousing - and surprisingly uncontroversial - duet with Elton John . Taylor Swift also cleaned up, though her number with Stevie Nicks sounded a tad off (as did Slash's guitar solo during T-Pain's performance). Best prop goes to Best Comedy Album winner Steven Colbert , who pulled an iPad out of his jacket during his monologue. And kudos to Kings of Leon for admitting they were a tad drunk while accepting the Grammy [...]

Not counting the brief post-midnight hour or so of music during their epic New Year's Eve performance at the World's Most Famous Arena, last year was entirely devoid of My Morning Jacket concerts on American soil. During the Jacket's "hiatus" front man Jim James kept busy - starting his own record label, releasing a George Harrison covers EP, appearing on an episode of American Dad, along with his duties as a member of the Monsters Of Folk , while drummer Patrick Hallahan toured as part of Dan Auerbach's solo band. Still riffling through those records I got from my sister's cool boyfriend, who works at an FM rock radio station. Today we have something of interest to Beatles fans ... by a group that managed to get three of the Fab Four involved with them over different points in their existence. That's Badfinger of course, and today's record is Magic Christian Music , released on the Beatles' Apple Records imprint in 1970. Badfinger performed some of the songs in a movie, The Magic Christian, but the album isn't an official soundtrack because the song "Something [...]

Here's a big thanks to all who came out yesterday for the Beachland Sunday Brunch, and a bigger thanks to Cindy and Mark and the rest of the staff at the Beachland for allowing me and my brother in rock, Jeff Sierputowski, to provide your Sunday munch-time soundtrack.
Yesterday - Bob Dylan & George Harrison 5.1.70 - CBS Studios, Nashville, TN I just dug into some recordings from George Harrison and Bob Dylan from 1969 to 1970. I thought this was a nice little gem, even if Bob's voice doesn't give it the best treatment.
