The Calm Blue Sea , a post-rock band from Austin, TX, released their second album last month. It is an original film score to the 1924 silent film, Die Nibelungen: Siegfried , directed by Fritz Lang. You can watch the film synchronized with the band's score on YouTube here . I haven't seen the film with the original music score (played by an organ/piano); in fact, I've never seen any silent films live, but after watching TCBS's score with the film, I'm definitely encouraged to try it out. New Zealand's fourth most popular folk-parody duo, Flight of the Conchords , have just released the art and track list for their second album, I Told you I was Freaky , which is set to come out October 20. It's made up predominately of songs from the second season of the show, which is pretty much expected. I figured I'd talk about I'm From Barcelona because they have a song called "Andy," and Andy Roddick somehow just forced his way into the Wimbeldon final. Oh, and the music's good. Gregor Samsa is a rotating collective of musicians based out of Richmond, Virginia that specializes in a slow, minimal post-rock sound. The music often revolves around the hush-hush vocals of Champ Bennett and Nikki King, who provide grounding for the ethereal instrumentation, which incorporates clarinet, violin and vibraphone, among others. I had always been a huge fan of the band's song "Young and Old" from 2006's 55:12 , which starts quietly and builds to a gorgeous, violin-led climax. What Happens To An Album's Pre-Release Cycle In An Era Of Leaks, Low Sales, And Dead Magazines?
One of the main reasons for album leaks is the nature of the traditional press cycle.
