Local Natives - Sun Hands [mp3] LA's Local Natives are poised to go big in 2010. The mounting buzz surrounding their debut LP Gorilla Manor has reached the boiling point and now it's time for us all to see if it really lives up to the hype. The band can instantly be categorized somewhere in the range of Fleet Foxes and Grizzly Bear upon first listen, but when digging deeper it becomes apparent that they have a voice all of their own. Gorilla Manor doesn't come out until [...]

Bonnaroo is just dying to be a trending topic today, or maybe they're scared their website is going to explode (again) when they unveil their lineup. They've been revealing "#BonnarooClues" the past week or so via Twitter as to who some of the acts on the bill shall be, ranging from Paul McCartney and Paul Simon to D.A.N.C.E.-enthused Justice . If they actually show up on the bill then I'll feel more investigative than Steve Burns himself . So while the Roo execs keep adding artists, [...]

[photo courtesy of Adam Weinberg ] Acidjack reports: "Given that Here We Go Magic's eponymous album is essentially the lo-fi bedroom recordings of frontman Luke Temple, seeing HWGM's live show as a fully realized band was a revelation. With a full band onstage, Temple turned quirky, intimate songs into grand gestures that moved the Friday night crowd. HWGM have toured with a number of bigger acts like Grizzly Bear, but this show proves that they are equally comfortable as headliners. Enjoy!" This [...]

( Editor's note: That's not my living room up there. It's a photo of The Who on a huge TV in an immaculate entertainment room that I found on Flickr. Pretty good visual metaphor for the current state of the band that recorded The Who Sell Out, no? Three quick things on the Super Bowl before we dive into this most recent edition of the singles club. 1. The Who - Let me preface this by saying that I love The Who as much as any other band on the planet. A cassette copy [...]

Hey remember Hot Chip, that quirky electro dance band that always keeps it silly and fun? Well let me introduce you to Hot Chip, that quirky sometimes quirky electro dance electro dance-influenced indie band that always keeps it silly and fun sometimes keeps it silly and fun but suffers from heartbreak, just like the rest of us. Let me then introduce you to their fourth first album, One Life Stand . As they have mentioned in several interviews, Hot Chip has shied away from the sometimes-considered "shallow" dance music for [...]

Out now on Patient Sounds words : Jamie Milton You enter from one side of ' M. Pyres & New Past Tense' and you come out of a completely different end, into an unrecognisable landscape compared to the one you came from. Such is the contrast between opener and closer, both titled ' Gravity Deluxe' but with different, bracketed sub-titles to help differentiate the two. The first is a serene, Grizzly Bear -esque opener of huggable reverb and soft, colliding [...]
Jamie Lidell Compass (Warp) Releasing: 18 May Beck and Feist are just two of the musical luminaries stepping in for an assist on UK blue-eyed soul meister Jamie Lidell's new platter due out in May. This goes beyond the casual guest appearance, as both Beck and Feist wrote tunes with Lidell for Compass. Oh, and some folks from Wilco and Grizzly Bear turned up too. This should be a good one and here's a stream...
Maybe it was because one of America's musical capitols was represented in the game, but there just seemed to be more music in this Super Bowl. There was the perfunctory opening anthems and halftime show, songs in ads - The Who even managed to be the halftime show act and sneak into an ad. Whatever the reason, there was plenty of music throughout and we couldn't be happier about it. The record-breaking television audience that tuned in to Super Bowl XLIV were treated to a surprisingly indie soundtrack, featuring Arcade Fire [...]

Who : Yeasayer Title : Oddblood Label : Secretly Canadian RIYL : Bear In Heaven, Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, hippies Thoughts : When All Hour Cymbals was released we were pretty excited for this new band that was burning up everyone's ears thanks to the outstanding first single "2080". What we learned is that Yeasayer had made on perfect song and filled a record with a bunch of mediocre [...]
The new Jamie Lidell LP goes by the name of 'Compass' and in case you were wondering, it's sounding pretty gosh darn awesome as far as we're concerned. Due on March 18th through the Warp label, the record features some of the best guest-spots we've seen in sometime including Feist, Beck and his keyboardist Brian LeBarton, Pat Sansone of Wilco, three-quarters of Grizzly Bear (all but Ed Droste), songwriter Gonzales and a few more to boot.

Jamie Lidell returns this year with his new album 'Compass', out on May 18th via Warp. The follow up to 2008's 'Jim' was recorded in Los Angeles, New York and Canada and features contributions from Feist, Beck, Gonzales, Chris Taylor of Chris Bear Grizzly Bear and Pat Sansone of Wilco. First taste, the track "Compass", sounds like nothing Lidell has done before. Listen Carefully... Stream:> Jamie Lidell: "Compass"

Dipped in Dollars is proud to present our February Mix of the Month , where we ask an up-and-coming artist to present us with a mix/mixtape that will allow us to gain better perspective of their process/show us what we can expect to hear from them in the future. Indian Summer is a little mix I made featuring some of my favorite songs we've been throwing out over these last few months. It doesn't feature any music you'll hear on the upcoming Comanche LP, but it's a solid [...]

Hearing of the new release, excitement started to boil up; just how will Lidell follow up the 2007 release Jim, which featured background vocals by Nikka Acosta, and collaborators Beck, Mocky, and Gonzalez? In short, with some of today's most exhilarating artists. After working with Beck and his most recent Record Club recording , Lidell kept the party going with recordings for his own solo-release, [...]
