Mix number 100! We've come a long way since those baby steps 3 years ago. For this mix, Dubbel Dutch who is certainly one of the most exciting producers out there at the moment rips it up with an all out awesome mix. "Born and raised in New York I'm a DJ/producer now based in Austin, Texas. I'm kind of a dance music geek with aspirations to make music in just about every style, but for now I'm focused on the left-field sub bass heavy mutated funky sounds originating out of the U.K. [...]

Even before the Chicago Bears recorded their now-famous 'Super Bowl Shuffle,' the New Orleans Saints had an anthem of their own. Of course, the 1983 Saints, who went 8-8 on the season, didn't fare as well as the 1985 Super Bowl champion Bears, so 'Who Dat?' never made it out of the huddle. But now that the 2009 Saints are headed for the biggest NFL game, the club has an updated anthem -- and native son Aaron Neville is singing the Saints' praises once again. Using the same arrangement, Carlo Nuccio -- of 'Who Dat?' fame -- has [...]

In the past couple of years, Todd P . has staged a balls to the wall, all day affair on E. 6th St in Austin for SX, but this year, things are a bit different. Todd P. is bringing SXSW to Monterrey, Mexico. Seriously. Like, there's going to be buses going from Austin to Monterey. Crazy. The best part is that Denver's own, Rhinoceropolis will be helping curate the efforts. Thanks for the heads up, Donewaiting ! From Todd P. : ==BIG NEWS!== It [...]

Look, Girls. We really love you and all, but you're touring A LOT. Don't get me wrong, I love it! I'm just concerned for your mental health. People have a tough time after touring so much, ya know? You still have a booked February to finish up, and now you're playing a little over a month more? I'll go see your shows. I'll just be the guy giving you a concerned motherly face. 3.30 Recher Theatre–Towson, MD* 4.1 Paradise Rock Club–Boston, MA* 4.2 Voyeur (Making Time)–Philadelphia, PA* 4.3 Webster [...]
As I think we're all aware, it's getting harder and harder these days to find a complete album that's enjoyable to listen to al the way through. With most people downloading single tracks from iTunes or Amazon (if they pay for them at all), the very concept of an album seems to be falling by the wayside. But every once in a while something does come along that is crafted as a whole, an immersive experience, even going so far as having intros, tracks blending together, skits, whatever. The Decemberists gave us a virtual rock opera last [...]

The mix CD seems a bit quaint these days. Without the forced retro kudos of an underground 'mixtape' (that's never really on cassette anyway), most record label mixes get buried in HMV CD racks beneath the industry detritus from Hed Kandi and Cream. There's always been definite cult of the new in dance music circles, and collectors and DJs have become even more pious in the internet age – who could be arsed waiting for record labels to hammer out licensing deals when the same tracks have [...]

As the Music Like Dirt top tracks of the year list returns for a fifth edition, it once again falls short of being the most comprehensive, the most knowledgeable or the most bleedin' edge. It is however consistently the latest and for that I apologise and hold out the hope that as the light fades on January there are still a few hardy souls out there who wish to pick over the embers of 2009. It was compiled from a shortlist of around a 1000 tracks, through a process of demented indecision until I gave up whittling at [...]

There's a benefit for the victims of the Haiti earthquake at the Middle East Downstairs featuring: The Gobshites, Force the Fallen, Forgetful Jones, The Doom Buggies, Sherman Burns and Van Burens (rockin' for a good cause is a good thing). There's a cool show at Precinct with Corin Ashley, Mike Gent [...]
photography by Travis Moore This was a great show for a larger sized venue. Usually I'm used to seeing names like The Happy Hollows or Useless Keys on the Spaceland marque, however on this particular Sunday, the venue lent it's stage to a couple of my favorite bands: Manhattan Murder Mystery and Dirt Dress. Matthew Teardrop, singer/guitarist for Manhattan Murder Mystery, always has this, "I'm going to kill myself," type of energy and often thrusts his army helmet to the ground with great force during the majority of his performances. Katya Arce holds down the bass line along with [...]
