OK so its about time I informed you of what I've been up to for the past few weeks. I went on holiday with my family to Benidorm - don't judge me. Basically spent a week going to the beach or lying beside the pool and at night venturing out to see trogolodytes like Sticky Vicky . After I came back I flew up to Iceland with a few uni chums for a wedding - Scottish-themed funnily enough, so I was looking braw in my kilt! [...]

Describing themselves as "a melancholy blend of Nick Cave melodrama, Shadows twang and Roy Orbison croon", An Axe no doubt have a dark flair to their music. Fittingly, their debut EP Some, When Alone, Cease To Exist (which, as you can above, has some seriously gorgeous artwork) was recorded in a church crypt no less in the midst of winter. The EP is the first of a trilogy; the second already recorded and slated for release in December, and the third written and currently in production. A full album is also in the process [...]

Photographer: Tim Ferguson Website: http://encosion.com/ Full screen slideshows of Hjaltalín and So Say So Icelandic sextet, Hjaltalín, play a mixed bag of folksy indie-pop rock with a bit of orchestral styling, thrown next to the occasional honky-tonk! One minute they're hard-rocking out, next it's a cabaret, complete with flamboyant flourishes on the violin and keys. Later still you can't help but participate in a bit of foot stomping to some country-style off-shoot. [...]

London five-piece So Say So are a band that I've really fallen in love with recently. The result of the amalgamation of members from two defunct bands, Kerrigan of they don't sleep and Jeion of Optimist Club respectively, as well as bringing friends Thom , Caroline and Graham into the fold, So Say So seem to have found the perfect balance of the experimental instrumentalism of their previous bands with a more traditional songwriting ethic. I haven't heard a [...]

Sprawling across Bristol city centre like ants at a picnic, Dot to Dot Festival thrives in the moment. Last year saw flagging indie scruffs The Holloways and the now-defunct Dirty Pretty Things head up the bill. However, further down the bill rough coals were awaiting crystallisation as Esser, Golden Silvers and Telepathe all played in the shadows whilst the pavements outside were still drenched in sunlight. This year's headliners come from the electro wheelbarrow that's still trudging its way around the garden of British music with Friendly Fires and Ladyhawke secreting dance sensibilities and geek chic from every pore. Learning [...]

Another Latitude announcement for you today (as if THIS, THIS, THIS, THIS and THIS wasn't enough!) and this time round, its more than just a few names. For the Uncut Arena we have Squeeze, Mew, Ladyhawke, Teitur, Music Go Music and Hjaltalin.

Help Stamp Out Loneliness make reserved indiepop that includes all the standard indiepop themes (broken hearts and record shops) and reminds you of Belle & Sebastian and the Smiths when you first hear it. But 'Torvill & Dean' (Disques Papillons Noire 7") has a naggingly addictive charm that transcends its inspirations in a way that the more whimsical 'Record Shop' doesn't quite. The potential is there though. Myspace There's an essay from the label included within the Play People single (Cloudberry Records 7") about the virtues of [...]

There Are Maybe Ten Or Twelve (get guilty, 2009) 2) the welcome wagon – up on a mountain (welcome to the welcome wagon, [...]
Hjaltalín - Traffic Music Triumphant Icelandic pop put to great effect in this mixed-media animation video which is as colourful as it is incomprehensible. Hjaltalín were singled out for praise after Jim Carroll' s recent scouting mission to the Eurosonic festival showcase in Holland. Hjaltalin is a nine piece ensemble who were crowned ' Brightest Hope' at last year's Icelandic music awards and on the strength of this song, promise to live up to those expectations. Their album Sleepdrunk Seasons is out now on Kimi records. [...]

Un rayonnement à toute épreuve, pour éclairer tous vos désirs. akron/family -ed is a portal- deerhoof -basket ball get your groove back- hjaltalin -goodbye july/margt ad ugga- those dancing days -those dancing days- birdy nam nam -manual for successful rioting- helena noguera -la bécasse (avec katerine)-
