Reaching out on behalf of Houston's own American Fangs, who are headlining Fitzgerald's this Saturday, Jan 23rd. Fresh off a fall spent opening for Saul Williams on the continent-spanning Afro Punk Tour, the Fangs have a nice string of January shows with State Radio. American Fangs have just returned from a five-song recording session at The Machine Shop, who have produced a variety of acts including Coheed & Cambria, Every Time I Die, Fallout Boy, and Lamb of God. Whether these tracks will help comprise their debut full-length has yet to be determined, but you can [...]
Yes, his pants did rip right open and so did the floodgates of Orlando, Florida pouring forth with a lot of talent tonight on the 4th episode of season 9 of American Idol. In total 31 contestants made it to Hollywood. Of those we only saw 11 contenders, so I felt a bit cheated. But what is a night of Idol without me getting just a little frustrated, right? The auditions started off with the introduction of today's guest judge: Olive Snook, er, um Kristin Chenoweth. You see she played Olive Snook on the [...]
Well, the title of Shania Twain 's hit couldn't have said it better. Sorry Chicago, but that was possibly the worst set of auditions ever in nine seasons of American Idol . A paltry 13 golden tickets were handed out, and we only got to see eight of those auditions. Something tells me we'll only need to remember two of these singers once we get to Hollywood week anyway. So, just how did we get only 13 "good" singers? Let's start at the beginning. Tonight's Idol started off with a montage of disgruntled contestants [...]
Okay, that quotes sums it up in more ways than one. Season 9 of American Idol is off and running with the second audition show giving us a ton of hilarious quotes, not to mention that unforgettable song about "Pants on the Ground." This time we were in Hotlanta, i.e. Atlanta, the city that brought us Fantasia , Jennifer Hudson and Clay Aiken (and birthed Ryan Seacrest, apparently). I'm not sure if we have an Idol winner on our hands, but there were certainly a few very strong possibilities. To help [...]

"Worth It" has been announced as the next single from Whitney Houston's comeback album I Look To You . This one totally caught us by surprise as we never thought it was a good track and were routing for "A Song For You" to be the next single. Anyway, let's see if it sounds good with the video. This week, I'm going to touch on a topic that's pretty close to home. It's a little embarrassing, and part of me thinks that I'd maintain more of whatever credibility I might have by withholding this info, but what the heck. Confession: Like Andy Bernard, I am a former collegiate a cappella singer. Say what you will about the "genre"; I probably agree with you. It's a questionable form of musical expression at best, and at this point I can't listen to most collegiate a cappella without cringing and fleeing the room [...]

Saul Williams Saul Williams with his album, The Inevitable Rise & Liberation of Niggy Tardust , Saul showed that he truly is a genuine and unique 'hip-hop' artist. Featuring a cover of U2's Sunday Bloody Sunday , the album produced by Trent Reznor/ NIN is a clash of industrial clangs and free flowing hip-hop with a dash of Prince . First establishing himself as an influential poet, and then as an award-winning screenwriter/actor, Saul Williams then went on to establish himself [...]

Much more egregious than the snapped strap on Whitney Houston's dress during her performance on this weekend's X Factor , which inexplicably lit up the Internet today: The realization that her upcoming tour is going to rely a lot on her backup singers and dancers to carry along the proceedings. Which is kind of sad, actually, because there's a lot to like about her comeback effort I Look To You . I do like the interpolation of "How Will I Know?" into the Alicia Keys-penned song's backing track, but I can't help but think that if [...]
'The most anticipated new album of the year' is how the sticker on the front of Whitney Houston 's new album describes the contents beneath – a claim presumably concocted after the demise of one M. Jackson. Nevertheless, the return of Houston is certainly one to attract the attention, coming as it does on the back of a fall from grace to mirror, if not match, Jackson himself. This is certainly something that Whitney's people are well aware of, matching her musical appearances with a range of chat shows, including a two part Oprah special. Clearly Whitney Houston has [...]
